There's also nothing in the article that suggests what he "likes being called".

I vividly remember him being called "Chet" many times in interviews during his playing days. He clearly hasn't stated anywhere that anyone has seen that he doesn't like it.
So maybe it's not a big deal.

My post was responding to the person who used that article to say that calling him Chet is fine. The article doesn't support that.

I stand by my position that people should call him by the name or nicknames he wants to be called by. As you note, there's not a strong indication that he doesn't like Chet. At the same time, it seems like people close to him refer to him as Chester. So I'll be using Chester to match what the people around him use.

But go ahead and call him Chet or Sally or whatever.

Thats fine. I have never referred to him as Chet, but some seem to be really offended by it. I just wondered if there is any actual evidence of that he doesn’t like it or if it’s just something to argue about.
Not sure. But there are a lot of people who are bothered by people in actual life (not message boards) who assume they want to be called the diminutive of their actual name (Bob instead of Robert, Mike instead of Michael).

I am one of them, if you call me Mike, means you don't really know me. If you do, you would know that being called Mike causes me to cringe.

So we should never called someone "IDKWTI" anymore because he would not like to be called that name.

I'm the same way. Billy Makes Me Want to Throw Things. I'm not 4.

Man......you guys have it tough./s I'm sure coach Frazier goes through this daily as well, but haven't heard whether he cringes or wants to throw things because he's not 4. Insiders any help on that one?

Yeah not sure and it doesn't bother me. I just have never heard any interviews where the writers have even called him that. Just like the Bert deal. Is it really that hard to show some respect and use someone's actual name?

Is this where we are at in the cycle? Arguing over given or preferred or nicknames for a former player now AC?
Sure wish there were more highlight videos of Corhen. I've only seen a couple but he looks chiseled and has terrific range. I hope we can get him on board soon.

I said it months ago when he was hired. Coach Frazier is the reason coach Weber had so much success at Kansas State. since he left Coach Weber is struggling mightily. It's going to be the same thing at Virginia Tech. He is a one-man recruiting Roadshow, he's amazing! I hope coach Frazier is here for three years and moves on to bigger and better things go Illini!

I hope he stays longer than 3 years!

If he continues to recruit like he has been, it will be tough to hold him longer than that. There will be big time opportunities coming his way.
Aren’t we getting a little ahead of ourselves? I mean I, too, like what people seem to be saying about our chances with some of these recruits but he’s gotten Epps so far, right? How many times did Groce finish second or third? We haven’t quite closed yet on the others.

Just to be clear, he also was lead on Harris

As an assistant or a head coach? it sounds like you are saying we are not big time. If we were to pay him accordingly you don’t think we could hold on to an alumn on the staff?

What a wonderful article. That's a love letter to the campus and took me back there. (EDIT: It's beyond cool that Chester loves the school as he does and is obviously jacked to be "home.")

As for Scott Hall (like Chester, I lived there... it was my home for two years; my room looked out through Memorial Stadium straight over to Assembly Hall), it has its virtues. The most prominent one is wall-to-wall windows that made those rooms on the south side of the building bright and sunny even in the depths of winter. A couple years ago I found this photo in the UI Library archives, taken in Scott Hall in the early '60s not long after those Peabody Drive halls were built. Those slanted desktops and beds were there my freshman year and replaced before my sophomore year ('85-'86). I still remember those chairs, bookcases, radiators, and drapes.

One detail about the photo I like is that it was taken long before IMPE (now the ARC?) was built across the street.
