My question regarding Illini fans negative feelings toward Mizzou was met with a resounding "The fanbase and residents". Bare with me, here is my story and position. I was born and raised in PA. I chose UofI over Carnegie Mellon for architecture (then switched to engineering). Honestly, it was the tuition of about $800/year (even out of state) versus $8000 at CMU. I have been a diehard fan of everything Illini since 1976. Actually I really don't hate any other schools except for 2 exceptions. I vehemently trash UNC becasue of 2005. The refs gave them that NC and then we find out most of their players didn't even attempt to be students. That was a university wide corruption. I will never forgive them. I always trash ND becasue of their pompous attitude toward the rest of the NCAA and the obnoxious fanbase that includes huge numbers that have absolutely NO affiliation to that school. The worst kinds of fans in my book. When it comes to hate. I truly hate Bruce Pearl. Regarding Iowa itself, one of my daughters was undergrad there, and another daughter went to grad school there. As a parent, I have to say it was a really good school and great college town. My son's first choice was Illinois. But he wanted to study journalism and was accepted directly into the Mizzou Scjhool of Journaism and received scholarships. That was a no brainer = Mizzou. He is a diehard Mizzou fan now and that is the way it should be. We love the rivalry and I have taught him well how to subtly "talk trash". He had a great four years, made terrific friends (ironically most from the Chicago area), but said after those 4 years, "I will NEVER live in Missouri".
Went to law school in St. Louis. Roommate had played cornerback for the Tigers. Enjoyed my three years in MO. Loved drifting the Gasconade River in the fall; turkey hunting in the spring (during finals), watching Ozzie Smith play baseball, playing city league indoor flag football in the Armory (my last real fistfight), fresh brewed Budweiser at the corner bar, even serving subpoenas for the stories it gave me. Have a lot of fond memories. But stomping Misery in basketball will always be a highlight for me.

Unfortunately, the opposite can be true. The loss to Mizzou was an oozing blemish on an otherwise pretty terrific return to form in the 2020 season.
The years that has happened I decided to completely ignore that it happened. I also ignore and write off anyone who brings it up. It helps me feel superior to everyone that interact with. Warning: This method doesn't work for everyone.

I think we're only scratching the surface for the potential of next years team. The Las Vegas tournament will be a good litmus test to how good we truly are.
It may be too soon in the season to really know. There will likely be some growing pains, but by Braggin' Rights, should be humming!

The potential is through the roof (potentially, lol). But the LV tournament is awfully early. Our team should be vastly better near season's end.
I see what you're saying, but the same event last year indicated that Michigan was not as talented as people thought and that Arizona was legit.

Michigan was a preseason title favorite and were an 11 seed. Yes, they made it to the Sweet sixteen, but they were AP top 5 to start the season
Oh, I know. I'm just saying, ultimately, despite how they played in Vegas, they both got to the same place. It's why, if we happen to have a slow start due to our new players like @Joel Goodson said, I'm not gonna sweat it. You can be a world-beater in your non-conference schedule or look like trash, all that matters is how you finish. Hopefully, for us, it finishes with a championship.

Indeed, it all comes down to March and we need to finally make it to the second weekend

...finishes with championships. Need to quench that thirst.

I'm not sure where to put this, but Jeff Borzello put together a nice list of the roster movement of the top 6 conferences and 20 or so other teams this offseason:

I thought it might be a nice resource for some on here.

And, that is why I want to feel great, but, am a bit tempered.
