I know very early in the process, but this caught my eye (Illini as 6 seed vs 11 seed Kentucky). No way Kentucky ends up being an 11 seed. This would be about as tough of a first round matchup you could get.

I'm not sure Kentucky will even make the Big Dance.

When you watch this team you see three players.
Mayers, CH, and TSR(Epps,Danja,Harris)

Mayers goes late first. He’s a 3 point specialist
TSJ can attack the basket but he’s still questionable on offense. He’s not elite at shooting.

And then there’s CH
This guy has it.
He’s a NBA player. He needs more weight and strength. Idk why this is a problem with fletch but it is what it is.

I don’t know who to compare CH game to. He’s so in the middle. Who do y’all think he relates to?
Sorry, I still can’t jump on the CH Express

Idk what happened with Skyy. It seems when things get hard he pulls out. He seems talented, but he de committed from Kentucky and his brother de committed from us. These players don’t often often translate to the big leagues.

Look at CH, brad rides his !!! cause he sees potential. And he’s finally starting to see it. I see since that 6 Three point game brad isn’t as hard on CH. because he knows he’s finally seeing the game.

I would LOVE for Skyy to come back, start at the bottom, and play shooting guard rather than the point. He is a very talented player who had too many expectations laid on him, had a scuffle with an older player (allegedly) and needs a restart. In the next year or two we could really use his scoring ability, which was stunted this year by having to play the point. He needs to stand up, take his demotion like a man, and work his tail off to become a man. Remember, he was injured all last year and is still making a come back physically.

Quitting on the Illini now would not endear him to Pro scouts or to any future endeavors.

JMHO
Hard to believe he's coming back, reading between the lines, parents weren't happy with playing time, BU held his ground, showed them the metrics and SC was caught in a tough place in the middle. I have to imagine SC wasn't performing to his own standards as well which made it even more difficult. Seems very similar to the AM situation except this played out mid year.

By what definition? Dribbling the ball from the other teams end line to the three point line then passing it doesn’t make a player point guard vs a shooting guard.
I don't know if he's always played point guard, but my guess is that he has. Just from watching him and reading about him, it doesn't seem that he'd be able to do much in the college game without the ball. He seems like a ball-dominant "volume" type of player/scorer.

You aren't wrong in the bolded part of your post, but I'm not sure SC is going to be better of at the 2 either.

The fact of the matter is that since he left, team is playing better, and by all accounts, SC isn't coming back...so it's settled. :)

I wish Skyy well and hope whatever he’s dealing with comes out okay. I’m sorry he left, but at the end of the day I don’t think he was ever. long for the program. If things went well, he was going to be off to the NBA in 2 years max. And anything short of that, we were probably going to wind up with a situation similar to what we had.

Reality is the odds were overwhelming we were going to lose 1 of the 4 freshmen. Epps, Harris and Rodgers are program guys you can build around and should be in college 3-4 years each. With the portal, you never know what will happen, but if losing Skyy now (vs next year) increases our chances of keeping that trio together 3-4 years I will take that.

These parents need to understand that their freshmen kids can’t overtake juniors or seniors. It takes time to fit and develop. AM was in a prime position next year with Ayo leaving. Epps is simply a better point guard for this team than Clark was. It shows

I don’t get skyy being an nba player from what I’ve seen. Doesn’t have the height. Not knocking him but I don’t see nba for him

A forfeit would be a loss of Northwestern and a win for Iowa.
Since there is no commissioner right now, how (who?) will this be resolved? The forfeit rule is ridiculous. Why would one team be penalized and another rewarded? It may also penalize other teams. Even if we didn't like the decision a couple years ago, a decision had to be made just to determine seeding. Forfeit under these circumstances is unnacceptable in my opinion.

They had to have named an interim right? Or at the very least given his responsibilities to a few high ranking individuals

They have a lot of talent on that roster, and their win @ TN will likely get their team into gear. I would be highly surprised if they do not make the Tourney.

They are a bit like us. Two weeks ago this board was claiming we would be lucky to make NIT. Kentucky will be a very dangerous team come March.

If we win tomorrow night, do you think we will be ranked next week?

IDK. I wonder if anybody knows if decisions like this are sole discretion or committee votes?

The interesting thing is, both Adam Miller and Skyy were both starting when the parents were complaining about playing time and opportunity. You can talk about minutes, but if you're starting and playing well, the coach is going to give you the minutes.

We will definitely still be ranked in the coaches poll (we are #23 right now). I have to think we will sneak in top 25 of AP poll, but IMO, this team is playing better with a chip on their shoulders. I would not mind being unranked for another week or so. The AP poll is all over the map, and I feel it is useless. The Coaches Poll has always felt more reputable to me. This year though, it is unsurprising to see such disconnect from #15-30 between polls because of the levels of parity we have seen this year.

I hesitated to ask this question, or leave to speculation, but is it a generally "known" fact in this community that the parents were so involved? Not only am I not an insider, I don't pay close attention to that stuff. BTW, I agree with your summary, especially regarding Miller.

Ben Simmons with less athleticism but actually enjoys playing basketball.

(Great length, defense, & defensive versatility. Not a confident shooter. Fancies himself as a 6'10" PG.)

This is the New Normal in College ball. For just about every team. Someone is always going to be unhappy with their playing time... or that the Coach is 'too hard' on them or something. And all these players have family and friends around them always telling them they can be the next Michael Jordan if they just get with a program that 'appreciates them right'.

And how can any Coach bring in good Portal talent if the Coach doesn't play them enough? You can't. The word will get out not to come to that program. The Portal guys have to play right away with their window of time closing and the fact that they are veterans.

With the ever-changing rosters now from season to season... you have to try to recruit young guys who understand the current landscape of College ball and where they can fit into it. And patience is getting harder and harder to sell any more.

It has never been harder for Coaches to keep all of their guys happy now. So many reasons for guys to just pick up and leave where the grass lools greener. Even though the green they think they see might just be weeds.

The green they are chasing isn't weeds, and it will be the primary driving factor for most transfers.

If you don't play, they don't pay. You will likely make more NIL as a star of a bad team than on the bench of a contender.

3rd on the team in minutes played when he left (or stepped away). Couldn't have been past PT but a change was coming regarding amount of playing time.
