How hard is it for bars to get Peacock? Is it worth it for a bar to get Peacock for Illini games?>

I know we are in peak Koolaid season, but I’m starting to get more and more optimistic we can contend for the BIG title. And what’s giving me optimism is I actually think we match up pretty well with Purdue if we play them right.

With our length, athleticism and physicality, we should be able to bother Smith and Loyer. Edey can’t score if they can’t make a post feed. And if it were me, I would pick up Smith full court all game rotating Ty, Sencire, Harmon, and potentially DGL depending on what he shows defensively. Always have a fresh body hounding him.

And if Dain is in as good of shape as his mile time indicates, I’m telling him and Coleman to sprint down the floor after every defensive rebound we get. Make Edey run his tail off for 30+ minutes.

They have a lot of other good players but I think we have guys who can guard Gillis, Furst, and TKR.

I would guard Edey straight up but make him sprint all game and try to deny every entry pass. Hug their other shooters. Edey May still get 30 but I’m not sure they could score enough to beat us.

So Purdue may be the better team but sometimes it’s just about matchups. If we can sweep Purdue (I know, tall order), I think we have a shot, even with our schedule.

Right, this very tempting. I looked at these numbers tonight. It looks wonderful if Domask could score even 13 pts/game for IL (down from 16.7 pts/game for SIU), while Shannon averages about 19 pts/game.

But here's the problem with that...

I don't think Shannon could get enough shots to score 19 pts/game, if Domask took the attempts, that he would need, to score 13 pts/game with IL (which is a BUNCH of shots). So, instead, IL is going to have to consider who is the more reliable/efficient scorer. Based on last season's numbers, that is Shannon.

So, unless Domask can increase his shooting percentages across the board from last year (worse FG % than Goode, worse 3pt % than Goode, and worse FT % than Goode), then I don't see how Underwood can start Domask in front of Goode and, effectively, reduce the looks for our most efficient scorer, Shannon.
When considering Domask's percentages, you have to remember that this is a multiple time All-Conference performer. He's been the #1 concern on every defensive scouting report he's played against since he was a freshman. He's never been A guy; he's always been THE guy. He took a lot of shots for SIU that would get him benched for us. They needed him to, we don't. Sure, he'll be playing against better athletes, but he'll find himself in space a lot more often too.

Given that most bars have spotty wifi and use cable instead of streaming services, it could be costly to setup. But I mean, it’s all up to the bar owner if the ROI is there.

There may also be a licensing issue. I'm pretty sure that bars/restaurants have a different subscription plan for satellite TV, the same may apply to streaming. I know for sure that it does for PPV events.

This is exactly what I thought last year. I still think there's lots of merit to this strategy. But it's not easy to execute.

When pirating sports, cinema, etc, you are stealing. Stealing from entertainment union workers pensions. Stealing from me and my brothers and sisters.
Hope it feels good.

Ummm, yeah...hang on a sec there Sparky.

I'm forced to now pay $226/mo for Comcraps cable and internet. No other high speed internet avail here.

Now that $226/mo package, WITH the sports add on does not get me 100% of the games I want to watch.

I have to subscribe to B1G+ (ILL bb), ESPN+ (NHL hockey), Amazon Prime (NFL Thurs), MLB TV, AppleTV, Peacock,....and who tf knows what else as we watch conference consolidation.

It is 100% your industry stealing from consumers. Period. Full. Stop.

And it's been that way for years.

Oh, and you're welcome for your pension.

I have no idea who will or should start between Domask and Goode, but not sure I agree with your thought process. The 4 departed players took 838 shots last year Shannon averaged 2 ppg less last year than your target 19. If the team actually runs plays they’re supposed to, addition by subtraction makes them slightly more efficient than last year and given the number of free throws TSJ manufactures as well as the 3 point shot, I think it is very feasible he can get those extra 2 ppg (actually 1.8) with on average an extra 2.5 FGA per game. But let’s just call it an extra 3 shots per game, so 100 shots overall. So now we have 738 “unaccounted” for shots.

Domask took 421 shots to score 16.7 ppg last year. Your target for him is only 13 ppg. With his role different then at SIU — doesn’t have to be Mr. Everything — and some easier spot up opportunities and such, I think it’s reasonable to think his efficiency will improve. So he could likely get to 13 ppg on 100 less shots than last year. That means we’re down to 417 unaccounted for shots to be distributed among Ty, Luke, Dain and the rest of the rotation.

But if Goode is the more efficient offensive player, wouldn’t you want him getting more time/shots than Domask? Well there are other facets of the game. Adjusting Goode’s numbers since he played much fewer mpg than Domask did last year, he had fewer rpg (4.1 vs 5.8), apg (1.0 vs 3.8), and slightly more spg (1,3 vs 1.0) and bpg (1.0 vs 0.4).

Now all those numbers don’t tell the whole story and I’ve only seen some highlights of Domask, so can’t really comment on things like who is the better overall defensive player. It does seem though that the two aren’t completely interchangeable, so each may fit better with particular players/combos. I do very much doubt that Domask averages 35 mpg like he did at SIU. But I don’t think him starting or having more mpg than Luke is going to negatively impact Shannon’s ability to average your target 19 ppg.
Domask and Goode are two very different players and my guess would be that they both get significant minutes regardless of who's starting. Goode will be the better defender and spot up shooter, so he'll likely be utilized in situations where we have the lead and want to lock down the other team defensively, and then spread the court out on the other end to try getting a high quality efficient shot. Domask, while not as good a defender, can catch absolute fire and go nuclear. We really haven't had a player like him as a shooter in quite some time. I know some would point to Plummer, and some a freshman year Trent, but I see him more as a Brandon Paul late in games, where he can catch just absolute fire and shoot you back in the game from anywhere on the court. The kid has got some Talor Battle in him. So, my guess is he'll likely be utilized in situations where we're losing or need a shooter out there who can make his own shots, especially late in games. And Domask is definitely the guy on the team that I would be most comfortable with getting the ball in his hands late in tight games when we really need a bucket. Him and Goode should both be getting 20min a game.

Thanks Ellen. Blaming workers for management decisions is well, short sighted. Corporate greed is real.
You'll see my union bug (logo) at the end of TV shows and movies. It's now my avatar too.

Ahhhh...yeah, nowhere in my post did I blame workers. I said your industry.

I'm also not here to extend this silliness. I appreciate all employees who dedicate themselves to their craft or service. And funnily enough, every time I'm in a venue, I always look up and marvel at the intricacy of all the behind the scenes, critical work(ers).

Also to be clear, I'm not advocating piracy, but as you stated....it's far bigger issues that create the dysfunction and costs.
Definitely not here to debate all of that.

Also, is Ellen a reference to the talk show host? Not following exactly, but if we're talking about daytime hosts, I identify more as a Bob Barker...or maybe Regis.

Lots of good points made above on this key issue. One thing to keep in mind on the Goode vs. Domask comparisons is that Domask played about twice as many minutes per game last season as Goode did, so I recommend looking at either per-shot stats like shooting percentages or doubling all of Goode's per-game stats to compare them with Domask's. So, Goode might have gotten close to 8 rpg, 2 apt, 2.6 spg, and 2 bpg had he played as many minutes per game as Domask did last season. So, Goode's stats from last season look better than Domask's when you consider this.

Yeah, it's true. Domask had a lot of good defenders on him, and all the guys need to play well for IL to play their best. It's also true the Goode had more go-to IL scorers on the court with him, so he could be selective in his shots. In that sense, Goode is more adjusted to his role with IL, and Domask needs to adjust his game to IL this season, especially if he starts. I think Goode should play about 25 mpg as a starter, and Domask should play about 15 mpg as a sub, but these roles could change based on how these guys do. Hopefully, both play great, and Underwood has to give both of them about 20 mins per game, just because they both deserve it, and we have can only have one role player like this on the court because Shannon is healthy and killing it as our leading scorer.

The fact that we are as deep as we are bodes well if we get in foul trouble. As bad as we played them in the first half last year, we dogged them in the 2nd half and almost came back to win that game in W. Lafayette. If we play with much intensity for much of the game, we can beat them.

Sparky's wife or Mr. Griswold if you prefer.

I think we are on the same side of the debate. We battle the networks, production houses, Live Nation especially, and of course can't forget Disney (Feld Entertainment), and so many others for every nickel. Our benefits are tied to revenue streams. Streaming being one of many.

I'll go back to washing my Lambo now.

Hope everyone has a beautiful day. Go Illini.
