Observation ...
Bardo made a statement early pre season, that he was going to start showing his love for his Illini more often. He has been better this year and this is spot on. Hansberry, I am not worried about. He will be a Illini favorite by the time he is done. DGL,concerns me only because he had been to so many schools as a high school star.Nice take on Freshmen not getting Tics.
. . . and Lunardi has the Illini as a #3 seed! Is this Illini team that good? To me, playing that tough non-conference schedule is worth its weight . . .Illinois up to #8 in Rothstein’s Top 45.
Up to #12 in Borzello’s espn power rankings as well.
Altenberger has always been one of my favorite Illini. That was my senior year at UofI. As much as we get angry about UNC and the ineligible players in the 2005 championship, and the unfortunate rebound that denied us the championship game (and subsequent title) in '89, I have always been more upset about that Kentucky game in '84. Having to play on their home court was one thing (NCAA Illini rule #1), but also getting the blue-blood home court calls? The whole thing made me apoplectic. That '83-'84 team was my first year at the UI as a 25 year old transfer first generation college student from the Northeast who knew nothing about Illinois or the Beloved. The Chief, and the football and basketball teams bore their way into my heart. I will be buried someday in Orange & Blue. "Hail, Alma Mater . . . "
Altenberger should go down in history for his Illini heart - an undersized 6' 4" small forward who played with the heart of a giant.
If we were to go the Final Four and lose to Kentucky I would contemplate sticking a fork in my eye sockets. If we to lose to Auburn I think I would likely contemplate sticking a pitch fork in my eye sockets.

Shamelessly* coming for those clicks. I think it was either the UT game or the Marquette game where the dude up top was invited onto another show to give his $0.02 about the matchup and his compelling analysis about Illinois was we were “a bunch of 6’6” guys and Dain Dainja”. GTFO lol
The link had one team in the top 5 in addition to one team out of the top 25 to reach the final four. Sorta clickbait
Coleman's athleticism is OK compared to Randle but considering he is a 6'10", I would not argue with you.JMO
Coleman feels like Brian Randle sometimes. Great athleticism but struggles to apply it effectively in basketball.
Coleman
Strengths
- handles ball very well for 6'10"
- great leaping ability
- very agile and fast for 6'10"
- can make the spectacular pass
- willing to guard anyone 1-5
- reasonable 3 point shooter when he is stationary and open
- cares about winning
- team first attitude
- great shot blocker
Weakness
- mediocre post game
- reasonable but not elite 3 point shooter. Should not be forcing difficult 3 pointers
- turnover prone while passing
- too emotional over referee calls
TSJ has developed nice mid range game this season. Wish Coleman had done same.
Coleman is at his best when he lets the game come to him.
Idk. I would just celebrate if we were in Final Four again. Will pray Kentucky and Auburn NOT in Final Four in the first place. If we were to go the Final Four and lose to Kentucky I would contemplate sticking a fork in my eye sockets. If we to lose to Auburn I think I would likely contemplate sticking a pitch fork in my eye sockets.
Look what happened in big east this week. . . and Lunardi has the Illini as a #3 seed! Is this Illini team that good? To me, playing that tough non-conference schedule is worth its weight . . .
With the way they handled Rutger, I think the Orange and Blue can win many games in the Big Ten.
