My memory is pretty shot, but aren't the blues usually worn at away games which are usually harder to win. I can't remember if they were only worn at away games or not. Also in those years 2014 - 2017 (the dark years) and then through the 2nd year of BU's reign wins were hard to come by in whatever uniform they wore. In other words I like the blues, too, and maybe if Illinois wore them for home games maybe they could get that monkey off their back.
That's definitely true, and I had the same thought when I was compiling the record. But if you go back and look at some of the games that we lost wearing those uniforms, it really is stunning how ugly and shocking some of those losses were. The Eastern Illinois exhibition game, for example. The UNLV game. At Wake Forest. Heartbreaking losses at Maryland. Loses at Penn State, Rutgers, Minnesota, Nebraska, etc. Multiple first round exit losses at the B1G tourney.

So yeah, we are looking at a window of time that is the darkest in recent memory, and you would often wear blue on the road at teams that feature red for example (Wisconsin, Ohio State, Maryland).

But when you dig deep its not just the record, but that these jerseys represent some of the most painful and shocking losses in the past 10 years. I'm certainly one who would love to have crisp navy jerseys that look among the best in the conference. But if BU and others want to go nowhere near them for the foreseeable future, I totally get it.

Lot of superstition in sports, but I see this a bit like the golf adage "it's not the club, it's the person swinging it." We could have put those teams in 80s Lakers, 90s Bulls, or our own orange jerseys and results would have been the same.
Bring back the blues! 😣

If players feel more confident in a given jersey and less confident in another, it can absolutely make a difference. I assume the team picks the jerseys they want to play in for a variety of reasons, and if they're not ever picking the blues, I trust it's the right choice for the team!

I have no problem with choosing certain colors over others, but I do not like how we use the throwbacks, personally. If you for some bewildering reason actually like our normal ones compared to the throwbacks, then we should save the throwbacks in a way that keeps their novelty and brands them as "special" (e.g., wearing them for Braggin' Rights, Paint the Hall Orange, NCAA Tournament games, etc.). If you are like me and think our regulars are lame and our throwbacks are the coolest jerseys in college hoops ... then just wear the frickin' throwbacks as our regulars! What I think is kind of weird is to wear either/or about 50% of the time and kind of get the worst of both worlds.

If I were lucky enough for it to be up to me, I would prefer that we do this:

Home: White Illini Script Throwbacks
Away: Blue Illini Script Throwbacks (but I am totally cool with only wearing the alternates on the road, ala the 2005 Illini!)
Alternate: Orange Flyin' Illini Throwbacks

Then you can keep a few cool extra alternates around, such as busting out the BLUE Flyin' Illini throwbacks or an ORANGE Script throwback for a special occasion here or there ... as well as, needless to say, some epic 2005 throwbacks in 2024-25.

I think I actually like our modern whites for some lower profile home games. Maybe they aren't necessary with our two throwbacks being perfectly fine at home, but I wouldn't mind keeping them around to make our throwbacks that much more special.

I do though, take issue with our modern orange uniforms. I think there is nothing that stands out about them, and each time we wear them I wish we were wearing something else.

Blues, imo, look fantastic, but as we have discussed aren't going to be worn any time soon.

I agree that the blues are the best of the new jerseys, but I get why we don't wear them. I think both the white and orange new ones are very bland and that minimalist style works better as football jerseys.

Im weird, but I think we should go with Orange for home and away and ask opponents to adjust to that.... Even if it is the Cuse.

Can we come up with an even newer blue jersey? One without all of the superstitious history? Or would that history transfer automatically to any new blue jersey? Asking for a superstitious friend.

I love the Blues! Always have. Muddy, Clapton, etc.

Depends. We win first game out in them, the curse is officially broken. We lose, we never see blue jerseys again
Haha, yes! And therefore blues should 100% be worn 11/7 at 8pm and we can put this thing to rest ;)

If I show up to that game and they're wearing blues, I'm blaming you.

I hate our blue sets. They're just not good. If they wanted to make them blue throwbacks with either Fighting Illini or Illinois script I'd take it, but the modern ones are trash.

Totally agree with you on set vs. set, but step one is just getting any blue set back in the rotation.

Eh. I don't miss the blues enough to agree with that per se. I also think our current marketing plan would allow for that

I think those are slightly more recent blues and we’d actually roll with these (which the ‘05 boys didn’t wear ONCE!):

Yeah, they didn't and I didn't want to go with the only pic I could find if Dee Brown in a blue version of these because they had that weird gray patch on the shoulder.

Shoulda gone earlier rather than later, good call! Like those better except one minor nitpick: piping on the jersey and shorts should be consistent.
