I realize this is just a discussion platform, but too many of you take the opinions of two or three people as fact. You live and die by their every word. The fact is they know no more then you. Nobody can know what these young men really think. I'm sure most of these young men don't know any future plans for sure. We all know what the coaches need from the transfer portal. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Who stays and who goes could be dependent on who we pick up in the portal. Bet you knew that too. I'll make an statement to get you all excited.....Coach will bring in 2 transfer that will absolutely surprise you. And 1 who you might question but he will turn out to be very productive. That's what I'm hearing

We are looking for guys who can put the basketball through the hoop and Epps as a freshman was one of two guys on our team who could consistently do that.

Would suck to lose him.
While I agree with your last sentence, the stats don't bear out his being consistent at putting the ball through the hoop. He was in a major slump the last 4 games, 3 of which we lost. (shooting about 22% from the field)

He ended up tied for 4th on the team in PPG, with the second lowest FG% of the guys in that group.

Shannon 17.2 PPG 44% FG
Meyer 12.5 PPG 40% FG
Hawkins 9.9 PPG 44% FG
Epps 9.5 PPG 41% FG
Dainja 9.5 PPG 64% FG

He definitely had his moments on both ends of the spectrum. Consistency was not part of his narrative.

That said, he is going to be a good player. Hopefully wearing Orange and Blue.

This type of PSA isn’t necessary. Back in the early Groce days, maybe, but most regulars on this forum have realized the insiders pass along knowledge as they know it right now and things can change.

If any particular forum member takes what they say as absolute that is on that member, not the insider. EVEN if an insider states something like “It is a fact that (blank) will happen.”

And yes, these insiders absolutely know more than us. Sure we may be able to ascertain generalities about the program, but the people connected are privy to specific info…info I definitely don’t have and never will have.

Player. Sencire wants to be back. Just a little iffy on his role next year as we will be brining in at least one lead guard. I think the coaches ultimately convince him back though. Not as confident on Epps

Sencire is a fan favorite for his energy, and rightly so. But he has enough deficiencies that he's going to get recruited over almost every year. I hope he stays to help build the culture back, but understand if he wants a bigger role somewhere else.

Don't you think the fact that he is a frosh needs to be factored in rather than comparing him with Shannon and Meyer?

I do not have time to to back and and loo at the moment, k but as i recall Epps freshmen number compare well with Deron, Dee and Luther freshmen numbers.

Dain, Ty, Goode, and RJ all trending towards coming back.
Epps and Sencire we will see.
Coleman/Shannon-Think we can get at least one of those guys back.
We have an eye on a couple of transfers already. Couple of guys not in the portal yet. Think we will add three transfers and not more as long as we retain a good amount of our guys, which the staff is a lot more optimistic about right now
When you say "couple of guys not in the portal yet," that sounds like feelers have been put out to our staff to see if there's mutual interest.

I was just responding to a previous post that he was only one of two guys who could consistently put the ball through the hoop. I assumed the other was Shannon. So that comparison was baked into the conversation.

I really only took issue with the word consistently. Like most freshmen, consistency is his biggest area of opportunity.

Epps has a tremendous ceiling.

Epps is a bucket getter and Illini don't have a lot of those on the roster. Would hate to lose him.
Agree and probably as good a shooter as we are going to get. Believe a huge upside in three pt %.

Luther .291
Dee. .329
Deron. .354

Epps. .301

Nothing to do with Chet. Just going to see who we bring in for guards. Think he ends up coming back though. But we are likely bringing in 2 guards if Jayden leaves so we will see. Imo I think everyone but Epps is leaning towards coming back, but still a lot to play out
These transfers are really hurting Brad's culture approach. You saw this season that transfers who are here for a year simply do not buy in. Brad's best guys are here for multiple years from the ground up. When you keep hitting the transfer portal, the skilled guys who you CAN work into the program won't stay because they are recruited (transferred) over by upper-classmen.

I did a quick check on Dee’s freshman numbers. A little better thanEpps. Dee though, was special. There was little doubt he was going to be a star from the beginning. Epps had a good freshman year but Dee… well, He was Dee Brown. It took a little longer for DW and LH to show. Just my opinion.

Head, yes (no jokes, please). Williams almost led the league in assists as a frosh. And he ran the team pretty darn good from the get go. His scoring/shooting really picked up after his freshman year.

Seems like I remember Williams breaking his jaw, having it wired shut, losing about 20 lbs and coming back a much improved scorer and defender but it’s been a long time I might be mistaken.

Just imagine sencires shot follows his dunk progression this year.

First few times were wow great steal and defense.... Oh the rim can be unkind.

That progressed to WOW did he just slam that down! He's got some ups

Persistence and confidence paired with talent can be amazing!

The ending of this unique story aboot mems of the past continues when Ish and I run into each other at a concert at SIU......
It was a Jethro Tull concert and we caught up on what had happened since HS and he got some kind of visa that allowed him to stay in the good ole USA for college......I found out he was from Afghanistan , not Iraq or Iran , and he had some of his country's best export cash crop........Needless to say we became very good friends and continued as friends until I found out he had went back home when the Russians invaded his homeland.........Sad to say , but Ish lost his life by a bomb buried under a main road into Kabul......

So pardon the f**k out of me for soooooo many ...................but I was sharing a true and still to this day a sad time in my life.....

The point I was trying to make is one should explore the inner soul of others instead of judging them by their outside appearance.........Everyone's blood on Earth is red , so keep that in mind regardless of the many colors of the skin that we all come in contact with ......You might miss a good friend here and there......JMHO
Aqualung is playing as I read this. True story.
