Look after watching Kstate pt. Guard and some smaller ballers in tourney. I don't care, give me 2 ball handlers averaging 5 assist per game. Tenacious defense. Oh ya. We need another rim protector to help Dain.

I don’t think Sencire is getting enough love on this board. I thought he outplayed his ranking this year. Solid defense, decent shooting percentage. Definitely improved offensively as the year progressed. Eventually learned how to slam dunk a basketball. Is he all big ten next year? No. Could he be as a senior? I think so.

Decent shooting %? He was 4-20 from the foul line and shot 31% from 3.

It is important to temper expectations and understand what Harris is now vs. what one hopes he can become. Right now what he is…is a player that excels providing energy, getting steals and giving great effort on defense. What he is not…is a player that shoots jump shots competently. He had the worst true shooting % (46%) of any rotation player on a poor jump shooting team. Harris made 52 shots, only 20 of those were made jumpers (7 2s & 13 3s) 32 shots were made shots at the rim/layups. Harris shot 32% on both 2 & 3 pt jumpers and 20% FT%. Those are poor non layup shooting stats. Right now Harris is an important complementary bench player that needs to greatly improve his jump shot making ability to start on a team with championship aspirations. There is no shame in that and his bench role is very important to team success next season. Unrealistic expectations aren’t helpful to player development or fan enjoyment.

I think that's reflective of a lot of the same nervous energy that we loved about him on defense as a freshman. I think he'll make a pretty dramatic improvement shooting wise next year, being on a more settled roster with more consistent leadership and getting in a summer of work as a veteran. Same with Ty.

I don't like anyone leaving, but since I only heard of Moretti existing about 3 months ago and could not pick him out of a lineup it won't have the impact as one of the other guys.

Kind of like Perrin vs Melendez. One stings quite a bit more obviously.

I always looked at Moretti as a walkon level player. Losing low ranked guys like BBV, Lieb, Higgs, Hamlin, Vesel and if Moretti leaves is just churning the bottom of the roster of guys that will likely never play here. That’s to be expected every year.

It’s losing rotation/starter pieces like RJ, Epps, Miller, Curbelo that hurt. Bringing in 3-4 new starters each year is an impossible way to build a program. Even teams like Kentucky struggle with it using high end HS talent.

Solid defense? I didn’t get to see every game so maybe it was just what I was able to see out of market, but that buggar looked like a damn demon on defense.

Sencire for a freshman was absolutely phenomenal defensively. The knock on him is he had issues at times with his awareness and recognition off-ball and larger guards would physically take advantage of him. But, those are both freshman issues. A year's worth of experience and an offseason of strength training, drills, and study will fix those issues. His ceiling defensively is probably that of Dee Brown with a longer body- quick, physical, high steal rate, big motor, self-igniter, and possibly a B10 defensive player of the year by the time he is an upperclassman. He has the skills and speed, just needs the strength and recognition development.

Disagree on several points. Miller hurt probably more than anyone on your list. High basketball IQ, solid defense and man felt he would have become a special Illini. Curbelo, ya crazy spectacular plays, but falling all over court, horrible jump shot, and I felt between the ears something wasn't there. It appeared in Houston game and St. Johns this year in huge manner. Rj. I have never got our boards love for him. Didn't play as freshman, had a decent game against Houston. This year, my goodness absolutely horrible! Where is the spectacular huge loss? There is None with Rj..

Epps breaks my Fan heart. Man is a baller, 300pts as a freshman, never been point guard. Simply would have gotten better and will be a huge pick up for some team.
I have accepted today's game is different, until something is done about instant transfer. A commitment is something special. Now It Means Nothing. 2000+ in portal, Horrible. Illini Nation always!!!!
A bunch of teams this year had huge success with Transfer portal player.
We simply forgot to recruit more than 1 point guard who hadn't Attended 6 schools/ Skyy!

Can we get Moretz into Summer School and get him on Campus this fall? Playing freshman year in College at age 17, worked out well for Taylor Horton. 1st round pick Lakers. Now worth 60 million as 22 year old! Moretz is ready, man is a beast!

Sencire seems to feed off emotion, which, in turn, feeds the team. I really hope he can improve offensively because he can already affect so much with his defense alone. A non rim protector really Impacting a game as a freshman is pretty rare, but he has. Plus, he seems to be all in as an Illini. In the portal/NIL, I think we’ll see less of that.
