I didn't realize my daughter works at a prep school that has produced some very good players. The McDuffie School in Springfield Ma. I looked today and James Bouknight, Omarion Spellman, Ismael Massoud, and sevetal others, even Edgar Padilla. Shes only been there six months but hoops is a big deal. I wonder if we are following players from there. I hope we are involved with Massoud because he seems to be someone that could fill a huge need for the Illini. I wonder if Indy knows anything about that program or its players? I know he mentioned he talks to so many players and coaches everyday.

Not sure where to ask this, but coverage of our Illinois basketball team seems to fit here. Those tied into the program.. what are the reputations of the different media that cover the team? Who is the most reliable? Who is the best at what they do? Who should you take the info with a grain of salt? Etc...
Jeremy Werner and Derek Piper with IlliniInquirer are pretty much the best in every aspect. They're the only ones I follow because the majority of the rest aren't as reputable imo

To be fair, there is little of value on Twitter in general.

I’m not disagreeing, but the majority of news shared on here are links to tweets. Call that what you want

There's a stuff-ton of chaff, but there's a lot good insight too. The trick is separating the two.
I have curated lists on a couple very specific topics that are useful (e.g., for me, defense news). They generally feature mostly journalists or similar informational outlets. I never use my general feed that thinks it knows what I want to see. I also very carefully avoid political accounts of any kind on those lists.

And yes, one of those lists is sports, but I use it far less than I used to because sports media are increasingly terrible outside of The Athletic, and I'm not a subscriber.

disclaimer: gratuitous plug forthcoming

I wouldn't dream of wading through Twitter without a heavy filter (especially now). I use Tweaks for Twitter (it's really good).

Sturdy is in there as well. Ked not so much. Ryan Evans absolutely not. Doug on rivals is bleh
Ked is ok. You just gotta know what you are getting. Sturdy, Piper, Werner are legitimate reporters. Ked is a homer that covers sports.

Robert repeatedly says he doesn't like to follow recruiting. After kids commit he'll look at them and do LLUOI or the basketball equivalent, but he's really big on "just being a fan." (He's said it several times and it's part of what's soured him on media events recently.)
Yes, Robert is a great writer and a good twitter follow but he has no interest in recruiting info until kids are on campus basically.

I follow Ryan Evan but more for amusement to see him have meltdowns during basketball and football games where he calls out the players and staff, and then shames others who would do the same afterwards.
