If Ty and Sencire get up 50k jump shots/3s this summer I think we are in business.
I just keep thinking this may be like my golf swing which doesn’t need practice to be crappy. Grooving bad form may not be productive. 😏

The Council voted unanimously to update guidelines for the waiver process for undergraduate student-athletes who are transferring for a second time.

Each waiver request will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but moving forward, student-athletes must meet one of the following criteria to be granted a waiver to compete immediately:
  • A demonstrated physical injury or illness or mental health condition that necessitated the student's transfer (supporting documentation, care plans and proximity of the student's support system will be considered), or
  • Exigent circumstances that clearly necessitate a student-athlete's immediate departure from the previous school (e.g., physical assault or abuse, sexual assault) unrelated to the student-athlete's athletics participation.
All other guidelines will no longer be used for waiver requests to compete during championship seasons that first occur in 2023-24. The Council agreed that athletics reasons (lack of playing time, position presence) and academic preferences should not warrant waiver relief.

The Council directed the Transfer Advisory Group to recommend changes to the transfer waiver process to manage situations that fall outside these guidelines.

For transfer student-athletes expected to meet the requirements for a limited transfer exception (discontinued sport, or non-scholarship exception) the Council voted to allow student-athletes to enter the Transfer Portal at any time instead of requiring them to use their respective sport's transfer window.

Physical assault or abuse related to the student-athlete's athletics participation is allowed and is not justification for a waiver !

Robert is an everyman fanboy with a platform and he's great. He's all of us. But he is not nor has he claimed to be plugged into recruiting.
To the extent that @TheodoreRex was asking about recruiting specifically, I agree with all the above. But for general news and opinion, yes Robert has a good reputation, is reliable, and is Illini through-and-through. you will get more football and personal stuff though.

Decent shooting %? He was 4-20 from the foul line and shot 31% from 3.
Of note............

31% from 3-pt range is totally acceptable for a high-octane defensive guy and a non-scorer. It translates to 47% from 2-pt range. With that said, his FT's are a big problem, especially if he expects to be playing the final 5-6 minutes of tight games.

I used to look forward to the discussion and speculation on this board after the season had ended....as to who (on the roster) would improve the most during the offseason and try to predict who would have the next break out season...how incoming freshmen would fit in and discuss who would get more PT....what other teams in the BI0 rosters would look like and who would be the favorites to compete for the conf. title.....but with the portal going totally batsh*t and players coming and going....those discussions seem really useless....they really really do....

Careless reading, or a poor attempt at trolling? That case is covered in the prior bullet point. Waivers are granted for: A demonstrated physical injury or illness or mental health condition that necessitated the student's transfer

In the past, college basketball was cyclical. You’d start building a team today that could compete as juniors and seniors 3-4 years from now. Most coaches (and fans) would be willing to have a bad year now in pursuit of a great year a few years from now.

Today, that’s almost impossible. 80-90% of the freshman you have now will gone by their Junior/Senior year.

So you can’t plan ahead. Instead, you’re forced to build individual teams year to year.

That’s hard enough, but the bigger problem is, when you don’t assemble the right team, there’s no pay off; you weren’t building towards anything.

I do not envy D1 head coaches right now.

This tradition of roster stability matters most to those who have been watching this Game for a long time . As the years ahead go by... fewer and fewer are going to notice this change in the College Game any more. This roster movement will be as much a part of this Game as rebounds and free-throws.

Roster stability mostly benefitted the Blue Bloods. For everyone else, it often meant rosters not being able to compete with the Programs of Privilege. Year after year.

It is the combination of ‘The Game’ and ‘The Logo on the Clothing’ that will always endure no matter what. The Game and The Clothing will never go away.

This new era of College Ball is exciting. More teams get a real chance. Spreading out the talent among more programs every year. More teams get to hoist The Big Trophy instead of Blue Blood’s just passing it amongst themselves every year.

You can go from lousy to real good in one year. And you might even go the other direction the next year. But then you can get good again real fast.

The game on the court is played faster than it used to be. And now, rosters have finally caught up. And a ‘new’ kind of Turnover will become a key part of the landscape.
