I think if you think of it in the context of "Hey TE play was kind of not there last year too" it makes sense to me. We have precedent for a QB coming in and picking up the Lunney system pretty decently in year one.

I can't even remember the last time a TE was a big part of the offense in the passing game. Blocking wise I thought our TE's were pretty solid.

As far as the last part, I think the last time was when we had Jeff Cumberland and Hooman back in like 07/08 era, so a good 15 years ago.

I couldn't make out what they said about some medical thing, at about the 9:40 mark.... ? ?
Desmond schuster (sp). Medical thing. Seems like it could be interpreted different ways. Juco OL, not sure if he has been on campus for awhile or just got here.

I would say Tip, and oh what a name for a huge 265lb TE.. The transfer from CSU, our TE's are gonna be really good. Tip Reimen will be on a NFL roster.

I don't know enough to comment on the first 3 items (i.e. you could be spot on), but if TE depth is ever more important than (or even remotely close to as important as) the play of the starting QB, it will be the first time in the history of college football.
Didn't mean it terms of importance, QB is obviously more integral part of the team. Last year was much bigger question mark with Devito/new offensive system. Now we have finally have continuity at OC/QB, Art still around as a mentor, experience at backup QB, better WR room, better OL outside of losing Palcho, so I'm less worried about whether QB play will be up to par

What team defenses are you most excited to see play this year and why? — Jerod B.

Schematically, I’d say the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL and Illinois in the college ranks.
...
Illinois, meanwhile, has fielded several competitive defenses already in Bret Bielema’s tenure, and the school has added former Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard into one of those hazy senior analyst roles. Over the last four seasons, Leonhard’s defenses ranked third in the FBS in success rate against the run, seventh in success rate on passing attempts and first in third-down EPA allowed per play. I don’t think you bring in a guy with Leonhard’s resume just because he’s a good hang, and I don’t think Leonhard would be getting out of bed for a job that isn’t asking him to be hands-on in the planning process. So Illinois fans should be excited to see this program continue to build on its recent successes.

Prior to coming to Illinois, Devito had thrown 572 passes in 4 seasons at Syracuse (sorta, Covid season included, so the equivalent of 3) and was the starter for better than 1 full season. Altmyer has thrown 54 passes total with one emergency start. I get you with regard to Lunney (and Art?), but Altmyer is much less a proven commodity at this point than Devito was going into last year. I'd like to be as confident as you are, and if you're right and Altmyer is solid it's going to be a good year, but it's reasonable to think he may have some growing pains.

Is every team in the West gonna have a new QB?
pretty sure yes, and figure on that happening often going forward.
sure, we might get Altmeyer two years in a row, but the days of a QB starting for you 3 years in a row are pretty much over

I'm still not over this one, then again I'll never be over the record of that 1994 team.

I rag on Lovie a lot. Beckman was terrible. Moeller was horrible. Zook couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. But for my money, Lou Tepper was the worst coach in Illinois history. We were at worst the third best program in the conference when he took over (and arguably were 2nd best since we had beaten tOSU 4 straight) and he ran the program into a ditch we never really climbed out of. The Wazzoo and Purdue games in 1994 were emblematic of his ineptitude

We had a very good one a few years ago and didn't use him like we should have. If we had a decent quarterback and good coaches he should of been an all american
