Thought I heard one of the announcers during the NW game saying Art was going to be out until December. Did I mishear that or is he essentially out all next year?
His recovery will take several months. He will miss spring practices, and will try to be healthy by summer workouts. Showed too many flaws in his game to bet all that he is our answer at quarterback, despite his toughness and positive attitude.

Appreciate the info. Generally agree with your last sentence but if he was playing with a labral injury all season, that could explain some (certainly not all) of his throwing problems. We desperately need a big upgrade at that position.

Time for Big Ten football to introduce relegation?
Next year the divisions would be-
Top tier:
Michigan
Ohio State
Michigan State
Iowa
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Purdue

The rest:
Penn State
Maryland
Rutgers
Indiana
Illinois
Nebraska
Northwestern

Play your division once. Keep a rivalry game if needed. Schedule a Pac and ACC non-con. If anyone in Top tier has a worse record than anyone in The rest, they swap next season.
Edit- Best two teams in the Top tier play championship.

Agreed on that.
I think health wise, you cannot guarantee Art to be healthy/ could be setbacks. So have to get a dependable QB in portal.

had 5 qbs to start
Peters, IW, Robinson, spann, collier(5)
Added art (6)
IW and spann moved to WR (4)
Ryan Johnson as walk on likely to stay on schollie(5)
Peters graduates (4)
O’Leary (5)
Transfers?
I can see 5 or 6 total Qb on roster heading into camp next year, factoring in transfers in/out and Art’s health. And maybe invest in that 6th spot for now for higher chance someone fits/develops/takes reins for future

If you add promotion and relegation to the above, I would be excited about it. Every year, the bottom two teams in the top tier move down and the top two teams in the rest move up. Every game will matter.

College Football Reference uses a “simple ranking system” indexing point differential with strength of schedule. By that metric, this last year was the best Illinois team since the Nate/Leshoure/Martez team in 2010 that beat Baylor in the bowl game.

They played the toughest schedule since 2005, Zook’s first season. CFR actually ranks Illinois’ schedule 9th in the country. SoS rankings vary in method, but a brief survey across a number of different sites all have Illinois in the top 30 this year.

As others have already pointed out in this thread, the year to year improvement in defense was amazing.

As much of a roller coaster as this season was, it was overall a pretty decent first season for a new coaching staff.

Onward and upward.

Hope it goes well for him, but another year catching more passes from a competent QB would seem to help his chances.

So disappointing. Getting him to commit was a huge get for the previous staff. It never played out, though. Just goes to show that getting some of these great recruits does not necessarily mean anything, especially when you see the number of Kerby Josephs we have had over the last 10 years or so with very few offers.

There's busts at every level of the sport. It happens.

Former Illini Glenn Foster Jr. has died while in police custody. Seems like a lot of mystery behind this. I'll be honest, I don't remember him playing for Illinois, but that was my transition time from military to civilian life. He left Illinois in 2013, it states
