Illini Golf 2025-2026

It’s only gotten worse. It’s not even the conditions. Southern miss is -9 and ahead of us. Pitiful performance so far.

Georgias performance might be worse. 4th seed and hosting at your home course and you might not qualify.

Looking pretty tough. Need to light up the back 9 and get to about -16 or -17 and hope for some help.

Illinois currently has the worst 3rd round going of any team in the field.

I think there should be some real deep soul-searching down there in the Champaign golf office - coaches and players. Certainly no champagne. No bubbles - things fizzled out and were pretty flat all year.

You can stick a fork in them now. Disappointing year for sure.

The last thing I would ever do is bet against Mike Small getting them right back where they have been consistently over the last 15 years.

All year the team struggled with consistency too many players who can be good and bad not enough guys who you can fully rely on. And max who should be the star battled injuries a lot. Tough ending. I feel horrible for Charleston. Georgia beats them by 1 on their own course. Charleston should be going not them.!

In case people care, USC qualified, Purdue is in the middle of a historic collapse on round 3, might not qualify. TTU 7 seed might not qualify, OSU also collapsing today at home course, 19 seed Charlotte might not qualify, 21 seed NMST missed. UCLA should qualify, northwestern and Oregon missed. So 3 b10 teams probably in the final.

By far, the worst round of the day. The only team to shoot above par. Need to regroup.

Consistency has been the one thing that has eluded this squad, and unfortunately that showed today. Very reminiscent of last year's NCAA Championship: in decent shape through round 2, bottom completely fell out in round 3.

Congrats to Ryan on a solid four years in the O&B. Not the way he wanted to go out, but that shouldn't take away from his accomplishments.

Such a tough way to end this year. There was a lack of form and grit down the stretch here. Not sure what happened but it wasn't just one guy. Way too many rounds over par in this. We couldn't do the 1 guy has a bad round and the rest pick him up, just 2 to 3 guys slightly off and that will do you in. Really surprised at that 3rd round. I expected a big showing and was semi-hopeful that it was going to happen. Thought somebody was going low, maybe it was Freddie's turn to fire low, get some momentum, not to be. Shame for Ryan, he had to be hoping this was one of those moments for him also. Very nice career for us however. Not sure he will hold on to his PGA University spot. It will be very close, he really could've used an under par round in that final round and sneak into the top 20.

The good news is that we should have almost everyone back next year (only Voois graduates). The bad news is that we should have almost everyone back next year.

This is where we need a dislike button in this forum.

Way to show appreciation to a top 15 team that has wins this year and is returning players that will be playing professional after their obviously bad post season run, pretty strong work there bud. I'm sure Coach Small and this elite program looks forward to your support. I guess your the guy that expect more from his teams because that is what real fans do...your lame.

This team will be once again a top 20 team in the nation and continue to be one of the truly bright spots in Illinois sports.

Looks like Steve Stricker will play at Am Fam with partner Mario Tiziani in team competition. No Coach Small again this time? Shucks.

Best of luck to coach and all current Illini players, alums this summer.

Such success for a long time. Thanks coach. Yeah, disappointing season. But I'll be back for more exciting Illini men's and women's golf action this fall, God willing. Hope to shoot my age on my nine-hole course this summer; a 75 would be real sweet. No foot wedges or do-overs. Maybe a mulligan on the first tee only.

Ok I think there is only one guy, Malan Potgeiter, who could pass Ryan who is currently 25th on the PGA university standings. That gets him membership tp the PGA AmericasTour and second round of Korn ferry Q school. Malan needs probably like at top 30 to pass him for the final spot.

Potgeiter failed to make the cut, which is more of a challenge for individuals as well as members of teams outside the top 15. He was in the top 10 at one point, but a rough Sunday sunk him to the 30s. Not sure how they score it for PGA University rankings, but looking like Ryan might hang on to the #25 spot!

yeah, that +7 third round was a shocker and I think will let right squeak in. Which is a helluva an accomplishment if it happens. Having any guareenteed pro golf coming out of college is huge. Ryan exceeded my expectations at Illinois. Very impressed.
