Yeah I see no correlation between age of the facility and quality of the program there.

Can I assume this comment is snark? The problem isn’t the playing court or fan seating. The problem is locker room and training facilities. Ohio State, Indiana, Iowa, have new facilities. Nebraska has a palace. Wisconsin’s locker facilities were rebuilt in 2016. Minnesota’s facility was completely redone in the 90s and is also a palace compared to the locker room and training areas at Huff. Even Northwestern has significantly upgraded its locker room and training facilities in the last few years. Tamas shows recruits video of Jordyn Poulter in dark and dingy locker rooms in Europe and tells them it is possible to be great with bad facilities. He has made recruiting and roster construction mistakes but he is recruiting with one hand tied behind his back.

With his “legendary” recruiting, in the B1G over his last 5 years at Illinois Hambly was 8-12, 12-8, 16-4, 10-10 and 10-10. These numbers are very comparable to Tamas’ record. The recruiting program Tamas inherited was not in great shape. Although I understand firing the coach is the easy solution rather than the difficult and expensive solution of adequate facilities, getting rid of Tamas for a different coach is not the solution.

Agree!!!! But I still don't care for the style of vb they are playing. I used to watch every game available on BTN and really followed the team. Not so much now. Hopefully this year will be better!!

I wonder if they aren't looking at different facilities for VB. In addition to the problems that you mentioned, parking is becoming more and more scarce each season. There will be no parking at Huff this year and they are suggesting using the Ubben lots. The big lot that used to be south of the Law building has become a pay parking ramp. This isn't a big problem for the students who comprise a big chunk of the fan base but it is for the senior set which has been a constant presence since moving over from Old Men's Gym.

Part of the problem with Huff is due to the plan to move volleyball downtown to a hockey centric building. They chose not to dump money into the hundred year old building if it was going to lose its main occupant. Now that the planned downtown facility has evaporated, they should probably rethink the volleyball home.

Caroline Barnes will miss tonight's match. She is still out for concussion protocol.

My favorite! Great news indeed! She's got that quirky serve and the mischievous look on her face when she dupes the opposition. Welcome back!

Horrible performance tonight at home vs. Wichita State. Bad mistakes, bad passing, bad setting, just all of it. Does Tamas survive after this season?

He took a top volleyball program in the B1G, knockin on final fours/championships and lost the mojo.

He is the volleyball Bruce Weber.

I think it might be time to make a change. (Pending the season results obviously)

Nunge should help a bit when she starts playing, but yeah I suspect this will be a long season. I really wanted Tamas to succeed, but it feels like the program’s been in a slow decline since he took over. We haven’t been scoring those top recruits like we used to. Hard to say how much of that is Tamas vs our outdated facilities. It’s just sad to see our program go from borderline elite to what it is now, while it feels like the rest of the Big Ten is only getting better every year. Coach may very well be on the hot seat if we end up with a losing season.

Passing was atrocious and Im not sure we have the answer at libero. Serving had some crucial mistakes. I dont know Coach Tamas' contract status but he must feel fairly confident about his future if u have seen the house he and Jen have built. Im not ready to pull the plug yet. Just wonder if he is competing with more NIL money from other schools.

After seeing who Whitman landed for a moribund women's hoops program, I'm ready to pull the plug on Tamas. This program is dying fast.

In March of 22 he was given a 5 year extension. He also has hired his wife as a full time assistant. Don't know what her contract is, but looks like a lot of guaranteed $ for the both of them.

And as far as investing $, the brutal reality is we need to focus on football and staying in the new P2. That money, over time, will fund a great volleyball program, and other sports.

We can’t be left behind, as don’t have the crazy endowments the Dukes and Stanfords of the world have.

It is insane how the college sports landscape had changed so quickly and how critical these media $ are for athletic departments.
