Cook, Bryant, and Dolan had terrible shooting game - combined 8-31.
Got out rebounded by 9
Hard to win when you let other team shoot 59%. I would have thought it was impossible till I saw MBB beat MN :ROFLMAO:
On positive side they rallied and won the 2H 44-31

Did we recruit Kloe Froebe? How is it she ended up at Colorado State?

Colorado State also got an excellent guard from Batavia who just lost in the 4A super sectionals to Fremd and set the school’s all-time scoring and several other records.

I don’t pretend to think I know more than college coaches but always surprises me kids like this can’t go to bigger schools. Guess it will be interesting to follow Colorado state for a couple reasons.

Colorado State was all over her and offered her in Summer 2022 when Illinois was still a dumpster fire pre Green rebuild. She enjoyed the team, coaches and environment and committed in May of 2023.

Kloe visited Colorado State and loved the visit so much she committed a few weeks later after visiting other schools. She also committed during her JR season. Froebe literally wanted to commit early so she could focus on AAU and SR season with no pressure.

Colorado State is no slouch over the years. Think I mentioned PG Hofschild a week or two ago on this forum. One of the best PGs most have never heard of and is 5'0 tall area and a lefty for CSU.

She chose to attend CSU (same history if not better than us)

Just committed early by choice, otherwise the big dogs would have likely landed her

I wonder, after watching video of a couple Lincoln games*, if high major coaches were wishy-washy on Kloe Froebe's projection at this level and were significantly less eager in her recruitment than the Colorado State coaches. The solid mid-major may be a really good fit.

(* ex: Jan. 20, 2024 game vs Peoria Notre Dame, a 2A state finalist with long and athletic guards/wings)

Froebe's high school career has been esceptional. She has scored over 3,000 points and is the star of a team that almost never loses. One loss last season in the 3A state final and undefeated this year going into tomorrow's state final. Wow!

My observation from watching game footage is that her feel for the game is elite. She's often thinking a step ahead of the other players on the floor: anticipates action on the defensive end and recognizes small windows of opportunity for her team to score. Her skills are tight: hard to take the ball away from her and she gets shots and passes off even when pressured. Makes free throws, too.

Froebe is also listed at 5'9" and doesn't look comparatively fast or a leaper. We can see in the current Illini how challenging it can be to succeed in the Big Ten when your physical attributes lag behind your opposition.

It was mentioned above that a 5'0" guard is finding success at Colorado State. The Mountain West might really suit Froebe.

Always a transfer option later on. Will be exciting to see where her career takes her!

Larry Bird - Indiana State.- Started at IU
Jack Sikma - Illinois Wesleyan - turned Illinois down
Brad Beale - SLU (sick younger brother) - 5 star
Karl Malone - Louisiana Tech
John Stockton - Gonzaga (before it was a power)
Steve Nash - Santa Clara (HS in Canada)
Stephen Curry - Davidson - late bloomer

I really hope she likes CSU but I believe her chief recruiter(Kyley Bachand) has moved on. I also think Kyley is an Illinois grad.

(JMO)The 5'0 guard would be starting over who we have this season.

Pretty sure Northwestern offered Froebe same month she committed. Illinois was also chasing a few others who didn't commit.

What do you think about Destiny Jackson vs Aubrey Galvan? Don't know if we're recruiting her, but Galvan was dynamic in today's semi-final. Looks like she may be an Iowa lean. I'd love either 5'6 pg for '25.

It’s really bothersome when the really good Illinois high schoolers go play elsewhere.
Candace Parker, Derrick Rose, Jalen Brunson, Anthony Davis, Jahlil Okafor etc.
Now Kloe Froebe. And I’m not a fan of the Guytons.

OMG let's gooooo!!! 74-73 WIN!!! When we went down 7 with 5:00 to go, I got real scared, but we clawed back and held them to 0-9 on field goals the rest of the way. That phantom foul call on KB with :25 left almost bit us, but thankfully, ball don't lie and they missed both free throws. Huge defense down the stretch.

Illini win 74-73......wow....what a finish ...................held on to win after nebby got 2 separate chances in the last 24 seconds.....

Ladies with the lead at the end of each of the first 3 quarters , then got down by 7 in the last quarter but wouldn't be denied............

Nope, free throws. With :25 left, we failed to get the rebound after a three and KB got called for a foul where she made zero contact on Hake who was in the process of missing the put-back. Because of that call, Nebraska had a chance to take the lead from the line, but missed both free throws because the basketball knew it was a bs call (as the great prophet Rasheed Wallace once said, "ball don't lie"). Then they called out of bounds on KB, which was also debatable. After that, yeah, Nebby missed two threes to win on the final possession, but I was, and am still, annoyed they called a foul when there was a foot of daylight between Kendall and Hake. If the refs get that call right, none of the final :25 seconds happens and instead we are grabbing a rebound (which KB was in position to do on the Hake missed put-back), getting fouled, and extending our lead from the line.
