Clark was 3-16 from 3. Her season 3 pt is 41% so if she had an average game she would have hit 4 more 3 pointers for 12 points. Iowa would still have lost 86-81. Indiana shot 52% vs Iowa 39%. Indiana outrebounded Iowa by 9. That was the difference, Clark would have made it closer but Iowa still loses.

I am not following your logic. Most teams don't lose a game just on one bad area nor did I ever say that. Iowa shot 17.9% from 3 pt range and 38.8% from FG range. Indiana shot 42.9% from 3 pt range and 51.6% from FG range. Logic has it there will be more chances for rebounds when one team misses a bunch more shots. It all ties together. Iowa was down 8 end of 3rd quarter, majority of the rebounding differential came in the 4th quarter. Think Iowa went 0-8 from 3 point range in 4th quarter and Indiana got 7 defensive boards from those misses. Here is my exact post you are quoting me on below.....

"Loss by Iowa likely took them out of race for regular season conference title. Iowa is suspect on D and explosive on O. Iowa was cold from deep and Indiana hot.

One of the few games Clark and rest of team were cold. Funny when you think Clark still scored 24 pts, 10 rebounds and 9 assists."

Clark from 3

1st half 3-9
2nd half 0-7

Rest of team from 3

1st half 0-5
2nd half 2-7

Did not mean to be critical of your post. Just adding some analytics. My original text was this was actually said this was example where one player can shoot you out of a game. However when I did the calc I was surprised to see Iowa would have lost anyway even if Caitlin had shot her usual 41% on 3's so I had to look for other reasons why they lost - getting outshot and outrebounded by IU.

Yeah Indiana shot real well and Iowa was just blah. Iowa is the #1 scoring team in the nation, defensively one of the worst.

The supporting cast for Iowa usually shoots better. Iowa runs 4 guards a bunch and the worst starter usually shoots around 31% from 3 pt range. Think the other 3 guards average around 38-39% or better from deep. Maybe Iowa can stay in neutral and we can shoot lights out.

Iowa usually gets a lot of easy baskets in transition. They scored 25 FB pts vs IU. I tried to find their season average on FB points but struck out.
Its hard to fast break when other team is shooting 50% and outrebounding you. They take 3's and layups so an analytics dream. However thats only true if you are hitting your 3's.

Illinois shoots 32% on 3's averaging 17 attempts per game. Iowa shoots 37%. averaging 29 attempts a game. JMO- they shoot more because Caitlin an unbelievable 3 pt shooter (41% from as far as 30 feet) but also because their offense passes north south as well as east west to get the other Iowa players wide open 3 point shots. Illinois rarely gets wide open 3's because the offense does not pass east west or hunt the open shooter. That is why I am excited about gettin higher usage for Dolan as she is a good standup 3 point shooter who can also score inside. Shauna has to get our guards to do more than dribble drive to increase Dolan usage rate (ie pass the ball to Dolan more than 1 out of 8 times down the floor).

Bollin was very highly rated in HS. However she is shooting team average 32% on 3's, does not play much defense or rebound despite her size. Major disappointment. Injuries may have ruined her career.

Iowa plays like a NBA team. No D and try to out score you. Fun system if you have Clark(Steph).

Be interesting to see who comes back next year. Green relies on Cook and Bryant with heavy minutes. Dolan will get minutes....see if she stays first off the bench.

We have too many non contributors on our bench. If we are to be a top 20 program there needs to be turnover .
20/20 hindsight Josh trying to hold recruits after firing Fahey was a mistake. We need the roster spots for transfer portal.

Green not Josh

It will be ok. This thing is getting built....just not in a year or two
Why not? The 1980s are over, antiquated rules and all. The decades-old Illini mindset - "It's a dumpster fire!!!!" should be relegated to the dustbin of bad sports metaphors. So it's okay for Brad Underwood to turn over most of his roster every year, but Shauna Green can't do it...because....why?

You are thinking too much into this

Green is the one who kept the incoming recruits around when she got hired. She could have cut ties with them.

We are losing Peebles and Hobby. We could lose a number more. Even if there isn't a drastic change this off-season than it will be an exodus the season after with 5-6 seniors. Just have to see where the dominos fall before we start getting rid of players.

JMO but there will be open spots to bring in a few *wink wink*

If those five players, below the line, were to leave and be replaced by five players from the transfer portal, you would still have players below the line. They would just be other players. You are always going to have noncontributors in women's basketball. No coach is going to play 15 players for significant minutes. That being said, I do expect to see a couple of those other players enter the portal.

Does it look to anyone else that Clark travels a lot of the time before shooting ??......the bucket down the paint earlier I thought she walked and coach Green was making the travelling motion also.....

Need Gretchen to get over her jitters in second half - tough for a freshman to do in this environment.

Great entertaining game again. Illini never gave up, but wow Iowa was on today - just sliced and diced the Illini. And not too much more to say about Clark besides what announcers rightly said every few seconds. We got Iowa's best shot, and did fine.

We scored 85 points and lost by 16! We basically played with our iron 6 and tried to keep up with a fast, deep Iowa team. The fact we won the second half was pretty amazing. KB was stellar on the boards. Shots took too long to start falling. We had two threes in a row go down and out to take it to single digits. We kept making runs which I was proud to see. I love cheering for this team. I loved listening to the post game interviews by Dal and KB. Solid and steady leaders.

It seems fitting that this new level of WBB should have its epicenter located in Iowa. The Iowans have always loved and supported WBB. I have the YWCA championship trophy from 1915 with my grandmothers name etched on it. She played on the winning team from Burlington. Gram told me they played in a basement gym that had support posts in the middle of the court! Something tells me they were not scoring in 80 to 100 point range. So I may be an Illini by birth, but I have some Iowa WBB genes. On to play Sparty!
