I don't remember Jolette Law having much success with that #2 ranked recruiting class. Anyone remember what happened?
Landed 3 of the top 40 prospects that year...one in top 10 and other top 20 alone. Monster class at the time!!!

Top dog Williams saw 1 game and transferred out after first season. Penn had a nice career with Illini and GodBold contributed for team but took her awhile. Took until her Sr year to be a full-time starter.

Coaching staff is day and night different now than under Law and Bollant. Exodus of transfers with Bollant and a mess. Majority of the people who complain about the women's program now didn't watch/attend the games during those years.

Gonna have our hands full tonight. OSU is quite good. We had them on the run last year.....until we didn't. Have to beat their press and then make them pay.

Women's game at 6 can be streamed on Peacock for $5.99 month. Note that men's game next Tuesday at Ohio State is also on Peacock. Peacock can be cancelled at anytime so...

This is the first chance I've had to watch the team this year. How do they have a losing record??? They have looked a lot like the team I saw last year and have a double digit halftime lead that is not fluky.

The disparity in length and speed between us and the Buckeyes is significant, but we've got another halftime lead! The performance of late continues to impress! Let's go!

The first couple minutes of this are answering a few of the questions of how they have a losing record, rough looking to say the least.

5 TOs in 3rd so far ... after OSU cut to 1 have responded with 4. up 5. although the refs are allowing a fairly handsy press they have called every moving screen by either team

a sloppy last 3 minutes. up 45-42. have to stop the careless passes

#163
Can't shoot free throws. Can't hit outside shots. Can't hit bunnies. And they turn the ball over like it's going out of style. No wonder this team is terrible.

Getting hacked every time.

I thought the team was well coached last year, but they looked awful in the 2nd half. Sloppy play, no rebounding once OSU went small, missed assignments all over on D. Just did not look very organized or prepared. It's the same group more or less from last year which makes it all the more strange. Frustrating to watch.

Close games that went the other way for one reason for another.
Another one. This season has been maddening. Our inability to reliably beat the press over the past two years is absolutely killing me. Every time we have one of the top dogs in our sights, they press us, we fold, and give away the lead. It's one thing last season at Maryland when Gen was injured. It's another half-way through year two with everyone healthy. And then the second chance opportunities OSU got in the final quarter. Dominated them on the boards, except when we needed it most. Just incredibly frustrating stuff.

10 losses, equalling the total from all last season. 6 B1G losses, only 1 fewer than all of last season. Hobby just can't play worth a **** when it matters. Size doesn't matter when someone who's a foot shorter than you can take the ball away because you don't have any strength in your hands. How many more missed layups will they give us? God bless Shauna for only being in her second season, because this is the kind of crap play that costs people their jobs. I count 4 games they've lost this year that they should have won: Missouri, Arkansas, Wisconsin & Nebraska. They haven't won a single game they shouldn't have. How can a group of players fall so far from one season to the next without any turnover in personnel? Was one assistant coach's departure all it took to destroy this team's chemistry? I just don't understand. Is this who they really were last season & they just played over their heads from beginning to end? I feel like we got sold a bill of goods.

We had one impressive win last season, only one. This season none so far. Like you mentioned in your post we are giving away close games that are at our level or below. That is the difference from last year to this one.

No

We caught teams off guard last season. We were undersized and not as fast as big time teams but before last season we were a dumpster fire and turtle slow. Bunch of newcomers like Cook, Bryant and Shoup-Hill that the opponents didn't face before. Problem is everyone sees our tape and knows our weaknesses. We are still slow, undersized, have no post game, give up a ton of offensive boards, can't handle a press consistently, rely on the outside shot, list goes on and on.

I have not looked up stats but remember reading last season during non-conference play we were shooting lights out. We have not been a good shooting team going on over a year now. Once we hit full-time conference play early last January we haven't been the same team. I do look at the same pieces from last season and I don't see anyone's game that has gotten better.

I think there are a few adjustments we can make and turn some of these losses into wins. We need to move the ball. Against Wildcats and Rutgers we did that and had great assist numbers. I know OSU is a far superior team but we still should be able to get better looks. When the ball goes inside it stays there a lot when one more pass out finds an open shooter. A lot of our shots in the paint tonight were tough ones trying to get them over taller defenders.

Maybe our guards could screen for one another.

KB had 18 rebounds and played all 40 minutes. We went 7 deep tonight.
We could pay the price for this in March.

On a plus side we held them to 4 points in the second quarter. There was a good flow to the game. I remain positive when it comes to the outlook for the program. Let’s get a win on Sunday.

No doubt

Last season we started 14-2 and 4-1 in conference. We finished the rest of the season 8-8 and 7-6 in conference from January 8th, 2023 on.

I call it like I see it and Green needs time(years) to build this program up. Critiquing this year is more than fine(I do it) but the wheels haven't fall off. This is the most excitement around the program since the 90's.

7 season record of Big Ten play before Green 13-106
Green record in Big Ten play at Illinois 13-13

Win or lose, I enjoy watching the Illini Women AGAIN under Coach Green for the first time in many years. I no longer can attend games, but am so pleased the games are televised. I am very optimistic about the future.

I think the real price could be paid next season. Nothing to worry about this March, this team isn't going anywhere in the post-season. I liked seeing more of Dolan in the 2nd half, but we need to expand the rotation and get longer looks at more players.

The alternative is no other players are remotely close to playable and that seems even worse.

Yeah, I have some faith too. I think she’ll get it figured before too long.

Do we have any open scholarships? And why wouldn't players transfer if they never get in any games?
