I am really excited about this year’s team, particularly because Green has done so much with such a thin roster. I’m even more excited to see what she can do over the off-season and the transfer portal. It stands to reason potential transfers will be more inclined to consider playing for Illinois after the success of this season. With more size and players coming off the bench the Illini should be even better.

Agree

I have actually been wondering how much size they will or even can bring in next season. The starting 5 will be back so not like size will change that much from the main contributors. Getting some contributions off the bench and hope between the two recruits coming in and current players more can develop going into next season. The main spot I would like to see them tackle is getting at least one big post player out of the transfer portal who could challenge for a starting spot next to Bostic or at least be able to hold the fort down when Bostic/Shoup-Hill get subbed out. Need at least one solid big to come in and challenge for playing time right away and hope that at least 1 if not 2 others on roster will be able to get uptick in minutes next season.

Recruiting info...

Two local 2024 prospects are guards Aaliyah Guyton (daughter of AJ Guyton) of Peoria and Kloe Froebe of Lincoln. Aaliyah has an offer from Shauna Green--among a number of Big Ten and SEC offers--per this article. Froebe was reported to be offered by the Fahey staff.

Kloe's highlights from last month's Peoria v. Lincoln matchup are here. Guyton is number 11 for Peoria, with red-blonde hair.

Nice info. Thank you.

A 3 or preferably 4 person rotation at the 4 and 5 positions, so that our players don’t have to play 35 to 38 minutes per game would be a nice recruitment, particularly including someone who is 6’4” or bigger and who can guard some of the really big post players in the B1G.

Parenthetically, the current volleyball roster has 3 listed at 6’4” and 3 listed at 6’3”. One of the players listed at 6’3” is probably closer to 6’5”. Another 6’4” player will be a freshman in the fall. Any basketball players among them?

Leave the volleyball squad alone. Shauna will do well enough with her own recruiting. 😁

I don't wanna jinx it, but I get the feeling that as long as Green is at the helm, with the backing of Whitman, ILLWB won't just have a single good season, but consecutive ones with multiple births to the NCAA tournament. Thing is, Green has never advanced beyond the First Round so it'll be interesting what she does with the Illinois name when recruiting and how that plays in with the narrative of program resurgence; and as it shows has only a single win against a ranked opponent. If she can figure those things out then we may see a golden era. Can she become one of the winningest coaches in the history of women's b-ball? Who knows. But my money is on her to be in the running. Unlike men's basketball, if she continues with her success, there's a good chance she'll stay for a long time with low probability of seeking supposed greener pastures (unless it's UConn).

any reason to think either of them might be interested in Illinois?
Yeah, unless something unforeseen happens they will play here next year. Walker was gonna come here last year, but had enrollment issues. Our position coaches are really thought highly of by players.
Coach Gensler has transformed Bostic's jumper and Lopes' complete game.
Coach Mcentire well were do you start.. if you watched the team last year Oden and Peebles are completely different gaurds.

What I'm saying, people want to play for this staff.

Will Walker graduate from her community college?

Walker will only have one year of eligibility - she played for 2 years at Rutgers before the junior college. I don’t know if she has a covid eligible year, but I don’t think so.
