I don't see this team playing high pressure on the ball defense outside of Boswell, at least early in the season. The few that have the athletic ability to do so are young!

Clips on this site of practice are aplenty with him firing jumpers from the arc to the paint. You gotta love kids with talent and the patience to grow into their bodies and learn the game. Fletching has also been kind to JJ.

That is why it is so encouraging to see BU embrace playing zone. Use your height advantages and minimize your deficiencies....in this case, that is just a bit of lack of athleticism by our bigs on defense. A focused and competent zone can be used to elevate defensive effectiveness against most teams. Not saying it needs to replace man...which should be the norm....but can be a very effective weapon even against elite teams.

It’s not just playing zone. It’s mixing up the defensive schemes throughout the game. Too often last year we just did the same thing over and over. Even when it worked for a bit The other team could eventually find the way to score.

It’s why we had so many individual guys go off against us for huge games.

My problem with Stoj is not that he was rusty, but it looked like he was trying for the stats and had tunnel vision, which led to some bad plays. The ball had to pop.
To some, that is being rusty. It’s the mental side that takes the biggest hit when you haven’t gone full speed in a while.

Bolded is the key. He's way more athletic than Tomi. But Tomi thus far in their careers has been the more consistent and focused player.
Talk about a great recruiting pitch if Z continues is performance all season…take twins in different environments, measure how they do. Put them in the same environment, see how they do.

On the Illini website, Tomi is listed as a sophomore; is that accurate?

Love how this team values the ball. For as fast as they play the number of turnovers is acceptable. Lot to be excited about if the team can get healthy.
