Adding kids like Richie and Milo don’t change your program and using today to simply pander to those transfer players will make today just...today. Nothing more.

If you use today the way you should, you grab Corey and walk into Mookie Cooper’s living room and say “You want to be a part of this thing”? And if he says “Yes”? You’ve changed the course of the program. That’s what we should be doing.

I just don't understand why folks think we cannot do both? Its not like there are only 7 or 8 schollies every year. We can absolutelly recruit MANY HS players awhile recruiting key transfers at the same time. And we should be doing this!!!

Anyone know of any way to watch this whole game online right now? I had back to back soccer games for the children and didn’t think there was any shred of a chance of winning!!!

(takes another bite of delicious crow)

Lovie can coach. He just needs to continue to recruit and get some more transfers and juco guys so young ones can develop. Recruiting is what he needs to improve on. The play calling and development of his players is not the issue. We just need more players, transfers, and time for the young guys to develop. Wins like this with the highlights showing on all networks today will certainly help.
This is exactly where I am at. I have been underwhelmed by the recruiting to date given Lovie's NFL experience and thought he would be able to bring in some higher level talent. I also didn't believe Lovie could run his system without elite athletes. While this is just one game there is clearly reason to be optomistic. We are not getting run out of the stadium out like we were last year. The comment during the game about Lovie not getting great talent but getting the best of what their players could do was spot on. Credit both Lovie and the players. This Wisconsin team has looked incredible this year and we walked away with The win.The goal line stops were impressive. Im very happy for the players and for the staff. I think this win may have saved Lovie's job. Let's hope they can carry this momentum the rest of the season both with game play and recruiting. Great effort!

Hello Illini fans!

So...you guys enjoying this homecoming so far?...;)

Seriously, most Nebraskans seemed not as surprised as you guys that you won this game. Yeah, we are surprised, but your defense was the most physical we played thus far in the season. We were lucky our wide receiver didn't end up paralyzed from the eyebrows down.

I'll bow out now and let you shamelessly wallow in this win...and love the helmet decal.

There’s a difference between chasing a key transfer strategically and taking in 7 kids in one offseason and further advocating we take quote “more”. A drastic difference, actually.

I don’t think he meant (or at least I didn’t read it as such) that we take more than 7 new transfers next year. I think he meant we should continue to recruit transfers. If we have 5 transfers heading into off season and we recruit another one in off season then we have 1 MORE than we had. I don’t think he or anyone is advocating not trying to better HS recruiting. By all means go into Mookie’s living room and build a pitch around this game. But if he says no and other top targets do too to the point we have open scholarships do you leave them open? Give them to HS players that the coaches don’t believe are B1G quality? Or maybe recruit a few More transfers that can help you win, so your pitch to HS players in the future isn’t about one big victory or two but maybe about a whole season of them.

If the team finishes strong can we get Lovie to hire an experienced DC and give some freedoms to bring the schemes up to par with today’s game then I think the team will be in decent shape.

I may be wrong here, but with the way the transfer system has evolved over the years, in particular the last couple years, I think the transfer “game” is going to become a much brighter part of the recruiting process around the country.

I think there’s a lot of work to be done by Lovie on the recruiting trail and in the some areas of the coaching game, but I think he’s actually heading the right direction with the transfer portal. It’s very much like a free agent market, and he sells Illinois well to transfers, and they buy in (for some reason).

I'm right there with you. The win @ #1 Ohio State was a shocker, but we were legitimately good.

The only one that rivals this was @ Michigan in Kittner's Sophomore year. We were down what...three touchdowns in the 4th? I think Harvey took off for about 60-70 yards late. That was a program changer for Turner. That's the only other true shocker I can think of.
Rocky was at the game today. So too, the Chief.

The TE from Georgia has 3 years of eligibility. That’s not the norm, those are players we should target.

And besides that, you can only name one transfer from those programs. One. We added 7 and you’re advocating for more, so, yeah...
Talk about a guy whose glass is completely empty. Why watch at all if you can’t enjoy a game like this, without ANY negativity? WOW.

Well, they buy-in for the obvious reason. With but one exception, the players we’ve added can’t get on the field with their current Power 5 program(s) whereas they can get on the field with ours. Thats not merely a logical opinion either, Brandon Peters himself stated it outright.

If we continue to have to lean on the transfer for large percentages of our starting players, we will not go forward as a program. That guy keeps referencing teams like LSU and Alabama. Alabama has added two transfers in the last five years....combined. We, on the other hand, when fully healthy, are forced to start five. There’s no comparison to the way we are using it vs. the ways other programs use it. The way teams like LSU use it is sustainable. The way we use it is not.

There’s also another major factor potentially at play here: Regulation. If the NCAA begins to overhaul the transfer process and place larger restrictions on players moving out, other more successful Power 5 programs will be largely unaffected. We, however, will be gutted.

I don't think the NCAA will move in that direction. I think they will be more lenient on transfers as we move forward.

Watched the game back again. Can’t state it enough, the defensive game plan was outstanding. Granted we match up with a team like Wisconsin better than we do a team like Nebraska but the point remains, Lovie called a fantastic game. The criticism of him to date as the defensive coordinator is fair and warranted but we also have to give him the credit when and where it’s due and today it is due.

That tackle by Devon Witherspoon turned out to be the difference. Great lesson for him as he moves forward.

I thought that ILL would lose.

I am enjoying a meal of boiled crow with no salt, pepper or spices. It tastes very excellent.

How about some Kaboobs?????? :)

Summer Crow Kabobs
submitted by Gordon Krause (Crow Busters Founder)
Ingredients
16 pieces of crow breast meat (no bones) (8 crows)
16 pieces of green pepper
16 cherry tomatoes
8 button mushrooms
8 ears of sweet corn
1 1/2 cups of Teriyaki sauce
1/2 cup melted butter
8 kabob skewers
Preparation
Cut each piece of crow in half and place in a covered bowl with the Teriyaki sauce over night. Clean and cut each ear of corn into 3 pieces. Cook in boiling salt water for 10 minutes. Alternately put corn (3 pieces), green peppers (3 pieces) and cherry tomatoes (3) along with 4 pieces of crow meat on each skewer. Use 1 mushroom to top each skewer. Brush with melted butter and place on preheated grill for about 4 minutes. Flip, butter again and place back on grill for another 4 minutes. Repeat one last time for a total of 12 minutes or until they appear done. Serves four adults.

Michigan in 08? The Blackcat game. That's the last true shocker victory I can remember. However, this one was even more improbable and all the sweeter.

Something else that really made a positive impact today, the re-emergence of what appeared to be a legitimate game plan for the usage of Daniel Barker. He’s been so good this season, we need to start putting more trust in him as an offense.

Defensively, just say the name Jamal Milan over and over. That kid carried us today. I’m aware of Dele’s statistical numbers but Jamal Milan carried this defense today. Unbelievable effort.
Jamal has been a bulldog all season. Legitimately might be the teams MVP.

Dre...was great...hits the holes quickly...runs hard...like him better than Reggie when we need two or three tough yards...Reggie still the home run hitter
