I think it’s safe to say Coach Bielema still has the fire in his belly!!

I just want to echo what most have already pointed out…That this team massively exceeded the expectations of everyone. I’ve been optimistic since Day 1, but never saw this coming. It was a special season I’ll always remember, because it was the beginning of a new era. We will have higher expectations from now on, but lets never forget to be grateful for what we have.

And we know how massive that fire has to be!!!!

8 wins with a chance for 9
When was the last time we had a winning season? Zook? I can't even remember
Is Chase Brown then the official rushing yards winner for the season or does it also include championship games and bowl games?

Nice to see the blowout of NW. It is tough to see that Michigan “gets” to play Purdue instead of giving us the re-match that we deserve after getting jobbed at Michigan last week. We gave away a great opportunity with poor play against Purdue, MSU and IU this season, those games together hurt us more than the loss last week. Good games, poorly played games this year but 8-4 was well ahead of expectations. Hope for a strong showing in a bowl game.

Yeah, I'm thinking UMich is thanking their lucky stars today that they do not have to face us again. I believe our game was a blessing in disguise and a wake up call for them in preparing for the OSU pukes.

That being said, I am very happy with 8 - 4!!. 60% more wins this year than last. Let's repeat this improvement next year.

Successful season, no doubt. I'm OK with no B10 West, 5-4 isn't a divisional championship worthy season, so winning it by a weak division and tiebreakers would feel kinda weak. We likely won't be as good in the immediate future as much of our defense and Chase Brown matriculate but this doesn't have to be the overall ceiling. You hope this season will lead to more momentum in recruiting so that we aren't operating at a recruited talent disadvantage, and I know we can get a better QB. DeVito was a steady hand with his sure-handedness and accuracy, exactly perfect for what we needed this season and for where we are at. Going forward, hopefully the day comes where we have a QB that can really air it out and expand our ceiling.

I had the good fortune to become an Illini fan in the early '80s. I imagine that the way many of us feel about BB and the stage he's setting is similar to how those in '80/'81 felt about Mike White. Only BB doesn't have the baggage that MW did, which makes the present day even sweeter.

I’m so sick of people ripping OC Looney and the play calling. Last I saw BB he had a head phone and a mike on his head and being the head coach if he didn’t like the play being called he could change it. Also having watched Illini football for over 60 years when BB was head coach at Wisconsin if he had a lead midway through the 3rd quarter he would become very conservative.

I don’t think you understand how play calling and sideline communication works.

wow............really..............me hosting a game show ?..........wow........
.
I'm pretty much set in my ways this late in life with Tramadol and 420 and NL's taking precedence over all other aspects of my life....

I also have a meeting with the Ancient's before Christmas concerning a project that is coming for the benefit of all mankind , so I doubt I would have the time for a lottery game show versus a new period of homo sapien intellectual expansion with benefits of reducing violence in society to practically zero....

but , if offered , I will give it due diligence in comparison of each's benefit for mankind ........Wow , me a game show host.........wow....

I posted some info in the pregame discussion about tailgating in the west lot at Ryan and thought I would share my experience. We (me, son and son in law) arrived about 7:15 Saturday morning. Assuming that all B1G schools liked to tailgate, we figured the lots would have been open for at least 15 minutes by the time we arrived. Not a soul in the lot. No one. Gates in place to make sure no one infiltrated the closely held zone. Drove around and looked at their very pretty campus and the lake was beautiful that morning. Did a little research and found that they open lots 4 hours prior to game time. I had seen that, but didn't really want to believe it. Found a great little city park next to campus, cooked breakfast in the pavilion, and had my final "beer with eggs" breakfast for the fall. No bathrooms open, but lots of trees. Also lots of joggers, so timing was critical.

Got to the west lot at 10:26 and saw that the gate was open. Didn't notice the long line of cars waiting to get in, so just drove in the gate. Was immediately surrounded by yellow vested authorities who told me to get out and get in line. I realized I had jumped the line, so drove north and got in line. All the staff just looked around until the clock struck 10:30 and they let us in. Thank goodness no one got in early or TOTAL CHAOS could have ensued.

Remembering the rules about no opposing school paraphernalia being shown in the lot, we immediately put up our Illini flag and got set up. I'm pretty sure the lot (at least in our area) was minimum 50% orange. The taliban chose to give up rather than ejecting us from the lot. Had a great time, talked to lots of great fans from both teams. Had a blast at the game after the sun went behind the cement tower that forms the southwest side of the dumpster stadium. (Hard to see the shadowed field with the sun in your eyes). Great game by the Illini, great to see Fitzy sh!t down his leg on the final game of the year. Fans are disgusted with him but believe the Ryan family supports him and he's golden. Awesome-keep him for as long as you want!

So, despite all the warnings, and the plethora of signs surrounding that stadium with the word "NO" in them, we had a blast. Will definitely be back, and hang out in the city park if we have to.

Go Illini!

Hey, Zup had some tremendous teams around WW!. Several National and B10 titles. We sorta tailed off when leather helmets did.
Early 60s? Butkus and Company? 64 Rose Bowl?

Hard to tell from TV. What % of fans were Illini?

I remember during 1983 Rose Bowl Season we took the goal posts down almost every game at Memorial Stadium starting with Iowa 33-0 win. Then to add insult to injury we took the NW goal posts down in Evanston.

Back then the NCAA was not such a party pooper with $500k fine for 2nd offense.

They literally have a sign that says no opposing team paraphernalia? What the hell is that?
