Pretty easy to find this one.I don't remember Self calling three point shots fool's gold. He did refer to getting a big lead early as fools gold, but I don't ever recall him saying that about the three point shot.

I believe every analysis emphasizes taking shots that you can make.Analytics dictate taking the good looks from downtown. The game has changed in last 10 years, and I don't want the team being hesitant and passing up on good looks.
Crowd sounded loud on TV…?We win and everyone goes to bed? We lose and there would be 10 pages already! About as good as the crowd tonight I guess.
I don't necessarily like Coleman taking six 3 pt attempts or Epps eight, but if you get a wide open look in rythym, I want them to be decisive in taking the shot.I believe every analysis emphasizes taking shots that you can make.
Tonight the wrong shooters were forcing up threes, too bad they don't work to get rhythm 3s for the best 3 point shooters instead. If you get in rythym 3 point opportunities, you need to take them. It keeps the offense moving efficiently and opens up the rest of offense. If they start going down...look out!

We made a mistake against TJD and corrected it against Key?So who can explain why we aggressively doubled Key most of the night, but didn’t do that against Indiana’s TJD?
Crowd sounded loud on TV…?
Absolutely agreed. The game was a blowout in everything but the final score. Our defense was truly exceptional tonight, forcing a typical OSU possession to end in a low percentile shot. In fact, almost the entire night, OSU's shot quality was unfathomably terrible. While people can look at OSU's 37% FG% and think they had an off-shooting night, in reality, they had a tremendous shooting night for the shots they took, as their expected FG% had to be under 25% for the game. Our defense was that good. Quite frankly, there's no way OSU should've been able to put up even 50pts today. That might be the most one-sided single digit win I've ever seen.

0 for 3 for a good shooter is fine...... 0 for 8 is not. If you are not on with your shot, and even the best have off nights....find other ways to help your team win.I don't necessarily like Coleman taking six 3 pt attempts or Epps eight, but if you get a wide open look in rythym, I want them to be decisive in taking the shot.
What some are suggesting are to pass on these good looks, and I think it will end up having negative consequences on the flow of the offense.
RJ went 0-3, but should we tell a shooter to stop taking them when wide open?
He also made some circus shots just to get those. This team really is molding into what Brad seemed to be looking for, defensively, more and more. Aggravating as some of this season has been, you can't say it hasn't been interesting.Maybe the 6pm gametime killed the energy in here like in did in the arena. It felt like crickets for a vast majority of the game outside of nuggets free throws.
Another great defensive outing. Kept them off the 3 point line and shooting a lot of mid range shots. Gave up some offensive rebounds early but once they got that under control there was no looking back. Sensabaugh had 9 points fairly early but once he got in foul trouble Illinois took him out of rhythm in the 2nd
“I’d rather go 0 for 30 than 0 for 9 because you go 0 for 9 that means you stopped shooting. That means you lost confidence.” - Dion Waiters0 for 3 for a good shooter is fine...... 0 for 8 is not. I would love to see Shannon work in the paint more often...and it seems he has no method to score there other than hard drives. He got a rebound tonight with a shorter defender on him and took the ball out rather than take advantage within 8 ft. of the rim. Hawkins is the same, while Mayer and DD know they won't get a better opportunity and will either score or get fouled....and occasionally miss....but I love to see aggressive scoring at the rim by bigs. Going to need that from Hawk and TSJ sooner rather than later.
That said, I like seeing TSJ drive rather than chuck it up from 3. For all the time he spends practicing from the arc, he is a rather poor jump shooter. But he is almost automatic in the lane or from anywhere inside 15 ft. He should never shoot an airball from the arc and only does so because he rushes. He is reasonably accurate when he has time to set and shoot in rhythm...and he and Hawk should shoot every time they can do that...which would be 3-4 times a game at most. But both should shoot more within 10 ft. or less. Our opponents sure do.
I wondered about that. First game I've seen on TV. Much quieter than I expected. 650 miles away so that may have played a part. Team looked pretty good. Was there tonight, crowd was definitely more quiet that normal.
Tyler Hansbrough sounds like he made it through college with basketball privilege, let's say. Guy is brutal to listen to.
People may roll their eyes and say, "of course", but this, in its simplicity is actually profound. Good coaches will insist on their players taking the shots they are most likely to make. Taking threes to get an extra point means nothing if you can't make them.I believe every analysis emphasizes taking shots that you can make.
Lol. That was like 10 years ago. And no he isn't correct. Analytics have proven otherwise. Ask him today. Or any other good div 1 coach.
Key being good looks, I agree completely. But too often we take threes outside the rhythm of the offense. Those are the ones I believe are not needed. Throw the ball inside and drive more and that will open up more open threes in my opinion. No need to force them when we are shooting 32% on the season. If you get in rythym 3 point opportunities, you need to take them. It keeps the offense moving efficiently and opens up the rest of offense. If they start going down...look out!
