I’m seeing mixed reviews about this game. In part, I assume, because of the name on the opponents jersey

But this is the #16 squad in KenPom. #15? Gonzaga. Had we just knocked off AP #16 Gonzaga by 9, how would we feel right now?
In fairness, Gonzaga could be #200 in KenPom and unranked and I'd still be happy to knock them off. But in reality, if they were #200 in KenPom they would probably still be ranked in the top 20 by the AP.

Definitely but is a slippery slope with it being legal so not much different from alcohol.
Nothing slippery about it. Team can make a rule prohibiting use by players … and it’s likely one exists.

Then again, it’s all speculation that this is why RJ was sitting, right?

Maybe there‘s a rule about shooting <20% on threes, too?

Maybe top 10

Ty and Sencire have to be two of the more unique true freshmen I've seen, just in terms of putting a stamp on the defensive personality of a team. That does not happen very often, especially at guard, this early in a career.
Defensively, they are much better than Trent was as a freshman. Imagine them in one or two or three years if they improve their offense as much as Trent improved his defense. Please.

I missed the game today (went to TPC for free) but was glad to see that Illinois won! Just returned home and got caught up on the Postgame comments and the box score. Looks like we continued with our TO (17) and 3 point shooting (25%) issues. However, we shot 61% from 2 point range! Were there a lot of layups or did we just take good shots (can someone fill me in) ... great close range shooting!

This win capped a great day for me. The Phoenix area is the center of the sports universe this week with all kinds of parties, concerts every night, the TPC, and tomorrow the Super Bowl. An extra 650,000 visitors here this week. The Illinois win was the icing on the cake!
Hope you enjoyed it! I went yesterday for work (always a rough work day). Great times here for us Phoenicians!

Tickled for the win but you can't have 17 turn overs vs. 9 assists and shoot 25 % from the arc and consider yourself on the way to the next level. I was hoping we could turn this around but I guess it's not going to happen at this point.

Nice win. Great atmosphere. The beloved is 3 for 3 in games I have attended this season! I will be at the Minny game on the 20th. After that, the team will have to do it without me 😂
DocMorgan, the Illini luck charm, ... can we chip in for you to go to next Braggin Rights game?...God knows we can use some luck at those games

Weird game today, but I'll never turn down a win over a good Rutgers team and 8th yr. Senior Paul Macaeyi. Coleman with 5 turnovers and 1-5 from 3 land, but arguably 1 of his best games as a Illini. 7-8 from 2, blocks, defense, and boards. Ty Rodgers and Sencire, plus Epps are huge adds for our future. Great culture Illini players. Dainja has surpassed my hope for him in a Illini uniform. Case in point on a fast break in 2nd half with TSjr. Going 35mph. To the hoop, guess who was hustling 6.9 275lbs behind him? Dainja, rebound and an easy layup. So impressive with his natural skill. Now his effort and heart are following! I like our smaller rotation. I L L I N I
I thought the same. Great to see him running that hard.

DEE Brown will always be the one man fast-break. But Shannon can certainly be explosive.

It was a tough gutsy win today and great to pull that one out. But I hope I'm not the only one concerned when they threw the press on the Illini, there was trouble. Iowa employed it also and it hurt. Other teams will be watching film and scouting. Team needs to work on this I hope.
And late game inbound plays. Some WTH moments.

When CoHawk plays like this, we are on a whole 'nother level.

The Sencire 3-ball was the dagger IMO.

Let's keep rolling.
From a previous post of mine this is what I meant about CoHawk being more aggressive on offense. We don’t win this game without his offensive aggressiveness. If we can clean up lazy lackadaisical passes We can be pretty good.

He sure is. So similar to Rodman in not only his nose for the ball on the boards, but also being undersized for a big and using leverage and shiftiness to get in better position and fend off opponents. Ty Rodgers plays like a young Rodman before he became a Bad Boy Piston. Kid has a world of potential.
Love this post
