Illini Dawg

Paging Mr. Hingle. Can we please rein it in regarding the #1 culture guy this program has had in quite some time. Nothing we’ve had this season happens without players like Goode. Thanks, cya in the next game thread.
Everyone has room to improve, top to bottom. Ty made amazing adjustments from last game and he improved his free throws by leaps.

Definitely Goode has some things to work on before it gets exposed.

Great win nonetheless.

It was refreshing this morning to wake up knowing that not only did the Beloved win last night, but that scUM lost, and they are in last place in the B1G along with Sparty.

Let's focus on how gritty this team is. They didn't play a great game last not but they got knocked down early in the 2nd half, got back up but MSU just kept coming at them. I thought the Illini looked gassed and it was over but somehow one guy after another just kept fighting tooth and nail never gave up. It wasn't 1 guy, 2 guys but 6 that wouldn't quit. I like to point to how much Harmon has contributed off the bench. And yes I criticized the poor free throw shooting early on and I amazed at the marksmanship at the line and also how they kept MSU off the line last night. I think this is coaches best TEAM by far! Go Illini!

Goode has been asked to play a different role with TSJ out. With TSJ a lot of focus goes off Goode. He gets to focus on being the 3-point shooter with some open shots. W/out TSJ he doesn't get many open looks at all. That being said, he's a hell of a rebounder and really works on the defensive end. Don't sell Goode short. He'll hit a big one in March that may be the difference in a Final Four visit or not.
No def not trying to sell Goode short, love him. Harmon is just playing better all around including making the open threes. He is adding some grit and fight the last two games when we are getting out hustled and out physical-ed as well.
Harmon is just doing some all around things better at this point.
We def need Goode minutes too. I hope he can get his shot going.

Goode minutes need to go DOWN dramatically. His +/- has to be atrocious. He hasn't shot the ball well in his entire tenure at Illinois. To be shooting 64% from the charity stripe is embarrassing.
You are nuts... sorry but Luke played a very good game last night he was stellar on defense got plenty of rebounds... MS stopped him from getting shots last night. Guy played 35 minutes and give it all. Go pick on Dainja if you want to call out someone.

I have a feeling Harmon is going to get a lot of Goode's minutes when TSJ gets back.
“A lot” was the wrong choice of words here, I just think when TSJ gets back Harmon will get more tick that was all going to Luke before we lost TSJ. More even dispersion of the minutes.

Edit: lol I should have just said Harmon has earned more minutes🤣
Def not trying to throw shade at Luke!

Did I watch the wrong Luke Goode at Purdue? I get he can’t shoot, but didn’t his threes essentially keep us hanging around and gave us a shot for domask to take over and almost steal a game?

Theres a reason these guys are playing and we are winning at a high level. People questioned Coleman’s minutes for a couple years. Tonight’s game was a masterclass by him. How many guys his size in America can switch on to an all American guard and just negate them? Because that’s what he did, several times. He’s just a monster on the defensive end and allows us to run our offense at an efficient level without a true point guard. We are so lucky to have him and a coach like Brad that sees this stuff.

I’m with you. People’s memories are very short. Within the last couple of games didn’t he have a career high in scoring with 18?

Great, great win considering we were facing a desperate team and we didn’t quite have our fastball. Think we took pretty much their best shot, but we for the most part guarded well and made everything tough. Hoggard and Walker got 33 but on 36 shots.

I’m hoping Amani will be good to go soon. I think he could really help given his rebounding and ability to knock down an open jumper. I love Dain but I get Brad’s reluctance to play him as we basically have to change our entire style. Think Amani might be a better fit. But we need more than 6 guys.

Gotta come out and punch Maryland in the mouth early. They are still a talented team and if they get some confidence anything can happen.

That's on ESPN or your app. On the U of I stats page, he's 9 for15 for 60% this season, so even worse. On the other hand, Luke did a great job to control the ball and grab it with two hands in traffic and quickly get it up around his shoulders on that play where he definitely earned that 1-and-1 FT that he missed late in the game. I immediately forgave his nerves at the FT line for his awesome hustle and 6 important rebounds. He has great shooting technique, so he just needs more reps late in games to calm those nerves. Keep up the great job Luke!
It's almost like he was 9/14 (64%) before he missed that free throw when they brought the graphic up on screen.

Agree with you 100. Love Harmon. Sometimes getting that speak off the bench is the boost we need.

We need to start finding minutes for Dain and DGL just to get some breaks for our main 6. This load is not sustainable. Hopefully we have good news about TJ today.
I think DGL would have gotten cooked on defense last night by those guards (just like 4 fouls in 10 minutes vs Purdue and the limited minutes he guarded Buie). I think he has a bright future but we’re doing alright on the offensive side and his defense against the top guys isn’t there (like 95% of freshmen).

Against the weaker teams I’d assume Brad can pick some spots more to rest guys.

Hopefully moretti gets back and the Hansberry injury seems minor.
