it is well known that he loathes Illinois, as Illinois would not offer him.
If true, this is just sad.

I was always fairly indifferent toward Tucker. He was neither trashy nor flashy, kind of an almost-extra-special older player that carried Wisconsin on his back to a zenith in the program, tournament performance notwithstanding. He got his shot and did well with it.

For more precise perspective, I had to look up some stuff. If you didn't already think that such a grudge was silly, consider this:

Brad Underwood didn't pass on Tucker. Neither did Groce. Neither did Weber. Tucker committed to Wisconsin 14 months after Bill Self was named head coach.
Alando Tucker committed to Bo Ryan in August, 2001... before Ryan had coached a game for the Badgers.
That's right, Alando's relationship with Bucky is older than Bo Ryan's. Alando was recruited by Dick Bennett and his son / staff.

For more flavor:
He beat Illinois the last two times he played them, and led the team in points both times
From 2002-2007, his results against his home state flagship were: L, W // W, L, W // L, L, L // L // W, W
He was the leader on the first ever Wisconsin team to be ranked #1
He is in the 2,000-pt club and the all-time leading-scorer for the Badgers.
He broke Michael Finley's points title by 70. In 19 more games. With about half as many assists. And blocks. And steals.
Signs point toward his jersey never hanging from the rafters.

Thanks. In my haste to respond, I forgot about the contact. That is really the crux of it all. Tucker initiated contact during a non-time out.

The officials royally blew it, but again, they are not going to call Wisconsin for something like that on their court.

I expect some sort of Wisconsin press release on Monday that will half-heartedly address it. It will probably be a “sorry/not sorry” release.

Again, Gard’s video press conference is easy to find, and he fully believes that Illinois effectively “started it”, which is nonsensical.
Gard is an assistant coach of the wet napkin variety. I say this without apology knowing full well that he is richer, more powerful, and more knowledgeable about basketball than I will ever be.

I doubt that he will ever possess the confidence, poise, or humility to recognize - let alone own - what happened around that huddle.

Five Illinois players and five Wisconsin players had every right to stand anywhere on the court at that point in the game. Neither team’s coaches had any right to be anywhere on the court. The tech should’ve been called as soon as a bench person interfered with any of those players or stepped onto the court.

Yea for real. Dude stands up to other teams bs and people around here are acting like he’s a chump. Cmon....
Time, score, situation. Have to know it and have to be smarter. It was not the right time to be a tough guy. Be a chump and walk away with a W. Don't try and be tough and put the game in more jeopardy. How would everyone feel if we lost that game because of a technical? It wouldn't look so tough.

After all the debate, I still disagree with this. Tucker physically push Andre. That was way more than anything Damonte did. I have no problem with what he did to defend Curbelo. I think it happened so fast, many including Antigua, didnot realize what happened. The refs didn’t either. As the coach, Tucker should be in hot water for this, should be reprimanded.

I bet you donuts to dollars that locker room is even more prepared to run through brick walls for each other after that. Trent was the second guy in there to protect Belo. Neither guy took a swing, but the freshmen know for sure that the older guys have their backs. That is absolutely crucial for chemistry. Plus, Jake swooped in and gathered everybody up. I'm guessing Tucker was happy Kofi was 90 feet away 😂

No he did not do the right thing. If instead of being a tough guy and doing what? Starting a fight? He should have just gone to the ref or went and gotten Curbelo.

If Wisconsin gets a technical, it's game over, if nothing happens it's highly likely game over. Pretty much the only way we lose the game is if Williams gets a technical.

Now clearly tucker was saying something inappropriate because as soon as the refs got over there it was instant double technical, but you don't put your team in that position. The person who retaliates is often the one that gets the t. Just let crap go.

Unfortunately it seems like Hawkins has regressed
A lot
Would strongly disagree with that statement. He is slowly gaining confidence and moving a lot more on both ends....trying to contribute. He is trying to find ways to score in the paint as well as tips and boards. He is making two steps forward and one back as he progresses through his first B1G season. I watch him closely much of the time and like his play. A little more muscle and he will be very good next season, and better after that. Very few if ANY players his size that could do what he has done for this team....most because there are likely not ANY 6'10" players with his skill set. What I see that causes his inconsistency, great, ugly, good, great, good, etc. is he is trying to do so many things on both ends of the court while earlier in the season he was trying to do a few things that he was asked to do well. I have no problem with his contributions from game to game and/or his growth as a player. Glad to see Hawk and Grandison are playing quality minutes, but still need more to help this team to the max. Unfortunately, like most teams with a lot of talent, you only play 5 at a time and there is only one ball.

This team seems to have no problem with that and makes me wonder how Burnett would fit in....or if he wants to. He would likely play in Cubelo's shadow and need to match the effort and patience of Miller on both ends. Which brings to mind, with those three on the floor together, would there be ANY perimeter threat?

Miller is -not- a perimeter threat?

Miller is -not- a perimeter threat?
He could be, but has not been since he was left unguarded in the first game. If he works hard enough, he should grab some defensive focus from the arc, but overall, he has only impressed me with his effort to be a defensive strength, but I like that. A willing shooter and an elite shooter are not necessarily mutually inclusive. If he works hard on his shot over the Summer, he could really be a big contributor. He certainly has the talent and desire, but he must gain a ton of confidence and that only comes with time. What I like about Underwood is that he wants Miller to fire away early and gain that confidence, but he won't be called upon to pull the game out like Trice did today any time this season.

Again, I don’t have a problem with what Damonte did. I’m not sure I would characterize it as the “right thing”.

I mentioned this before, Tucker pushed Curbelo. That’s not nothing and the refs didn’t do anything about it. Damonte went over to call it out, a coach pushing an illinois player. He didn’t hit anyone nor did he “start a fight”. He called it out. Wisconsin escalated it as much as he did. A double technical seemed reasonable to me. The ad hock time out should have received another technical.

I did not see the game, just followed it on the ESPN app. Boy, I was thinking something was wrong with my connection as the lead shrank. Anyway, these , I will call them "incidents," with Iowa game last year, Izzo antics in Mich St game this year, Wiscy and Tucker & Gard, etc. I cannot help but think these are not just a result of our team having a rap as trash talking, cocky, etc. The more these things we see, I'm convinced the leaders of the pack the last decade or so are increasingly alarmed at the IL rise. They are used to kicking us while we were down at the end of Weber's tenure and the Groce years. They see that the sleeping giant is awakening again. And they are scared to death!
Wishful thinking....there is not a single B1G player who is "scared" of any other team. That said, there is only so much room on the podium and every coach and player is trying to get there. Good for the league, not good for traditional powers. But for every Illini fan, seeing their team be competitive in the nation's elite hoops conference is great entertainment. Enjoy....it never lasts forever.....but I sure would like to see Kofi and Curbelo be around as long as Davison and Settles (8?, 10?, 12?) but without the injuries.

Can anyone say for certain that not a single Illini coach was on the floor?
The play happened on the opposite end of the Illini bench so none of the Illini coaches were interfering with the Wisconsin players. You had Wisconsin coaches on the floor and one of them pushes Curbelo while they are trying to illegally huddle. I’m not even sure how this is even a debate. An opposing assistant coach put hands on our player...like how can that be justified??

I actually wouldn’t mind being the 2 seed in the Gonzaga bracket. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are a good team and had some great non-conference wins, but iron sharpens iron, and Illinois has been up against iron for well over a month. Meanwhile, Gonzaga has been hitting their broadswords against against those foam weapons you see in Dagorhir.
I totally agree. I think our best matchup is with Gonzaga. Timme has 0 chance to stop Kofi.

Long term lurker. First time poster.

I decided to post based upon what happened with Williams and Alando Tucker.

The Badgers were huddling during a regular dead ballout. Since no time out (team or official) was called, opposing players are not required to go to their bench, and further, they can join such an informal, as any space on the court is permissible in a situation like that.

Tucker got quite inflammatory, and Williams was having none of it. Tucker escalated it by not backing down. A double technical was called to try and cool the tensions, as the game was still in doubt. The proper call should have been for Tucker to have received the technical. That is what Wisconsin gets on the court.

Interestingly, in postgame interviews, Gard insisted that the officials did the right thing by getting the Illini players out of their huddle. That is emphatically inaccurate, again, because there was no official time out. Complete sour grapes in his part, and if anything, it proves that he just a pouter.

It will be interesting to see if the league takes action against Tucker. I guess he had a similar altercation earlier in the year.

I am trying to find out what happened between Antigua and BU. It was not good, and it festered well into the postgame.
Orlando was screaming at Damonte after his technical and Brad yelled at Orlando to calm down. I bet Orlando didnt like that much

Some stats in regards to today's game:

-First time Illini have won games at the Kohl Center in back-to-back years since the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons.
-First time Illini have won 3 straight regular season games vs. Wisconsin since the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons. While the 1997-98 and 2004-05 teams won 3 straight games in the same season against the Badgers, the third games in those series was in the B1G Tournament.
That just didn't sound right... that between 1988 and 2005 we never beat them 3 straight in the regular season. So I checked your work and you're right! Unbelievable!!

(I also looked back a bit further and we won something like 16 straight leading up to a 20 point loss in Madison on 2/18/89 -- Gill was out and Anderson, Liberty, Bardo, and Battle all held to single digits scoring, Hamilton led with 13.)
