Am I missing something here dub ?

BU with the next level math lol. Getting 30 minutes of game time out of Kofi in a 20 minute half.

Ah, you fixed it, @skyIdub. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Lol....is this because of how BU manages his game....or because he doesn't foul......because he fouls.
20 games with 4 fouls and one fouled out @ scUM.

This is such a weird hill to die on after this game!
I know. I said I’m picking at nits. But, with how good this team is, I don’t wanna lose a tourney game because of this strategy. That’s all.

Kofi looks like prime Patrick Ewing out there. The fact he’s not only swallowing up every rebound and explosively dunking on everyone, but he’s passing so well out of the post and has become a credible free throw shooter has blown the lid off his ceiling as a player.

We should be the highest ranked 3 loss team and I will fight anyone who disagrees.
I used that same line, "I'll fight any man who disagrees" to my seven year old grandson and he said, "You'll probably lose".

This is absolutely not how you coach this game. It played out exactly like BU would want. Fresh Kofi for 30 straight in the second half.

I just don't get the need to second guess this strategy...not just when it happened...but now that it's over and we see how it actually played out.
Damn straight. He clocked 20 in the second half and then chased Reese for ten minutes down the road toward Willard. ;)

Only two complaints tonight are with how we managed the run by Maryland in the first half (besides the awful refereeing).

1) Kofi and Payne both got two fouls, and we are dominating the paint. Payne is not going to play much in the second half unless Kofi gets 4 fouls... why not play Payne with two and discourage Maryland from getting inside? Maryland controlled the paint after Kofi got 2 fouls, and it started when Hawkins was playing center instead of Payne.

2) Why is Underwood so keen on keeping his "use it or lose it" timeout until the last minute of the half? Last game he used it with about 20 seconds to go, and we give up a bucket after Minnesota draws up a play. Today, we should have called that time out when it was clear Maryland had taken over the momentum in the game and our lead shrunk to 7-8. We ended up not using it until we were down. I'd much rather use the timeout to try to stop a big momentum swing that goes on for 7-8 minutes than use it at the end of the half.
Agree with both points.

Ok...by all means double down on this. Analytics are fine...but there's no way Kofi can play a full 20 minute second half as aggressively as he did in your scenario. You absolutely have to guarantee you have Kofi down the stretch in these games. You cannot take the chance...analytics be damned...that a couple of human factors....referees or silly fouls.....eliminate that chance.

There will be a game...probably vs. Purdue....where this could play out very differently. If we don't have Kofi for 20 minutes in the second half vs. Purdue....we aren't going to win.
I never said play Kofi the last 10 mins of the first half. If we kept the rotations between Kofi and Payne the same Kofi play’s probably five to six mins. and Payne takes the other four or five.

If the first half kept trending the way it did we would probably been up around twenty points rather than down four and Kofi probably doesn’t have to play all twenty minutes of the second half.

The team though really needs to find an identity when he’s not in though. It’s scary how we look when Kofi is on the bench.

Ayo during his in game interview said.... '[Kofi] will be in better shape next year, then be ready for the NBA.'

I don't wanna misquote, but that's what I heard, and trust Ayo's eyes and take on his former teammate making the league.

Say it with me: "ONE MORE YEAR!"
I heard the same thing. Sr year Kofi will be a beast. I think NIL has been a game changer for the decision to stay in college.
