Regardless of the W, these Big10 refs never fail to surprise me with their ineptitude. That was an absolute clown show to both sides. The mid-play stoppage while Curbelo was down made no sense, the foul on Jake (which took place well before the shot) while the 3 point shot went down for an additional 1-1(a 5 point swing opportunity, are you kidding?) was brutal, and the 3 second call was perplexing.
It is not ineptitude. It’s intentional. The B10 employs the refs they do for a reason, there are no accidents in hiring and assigning these guys.

Just as a matter of perspective todays crew chief - Larry Scirotto - was formely police chief in Pittsburgh. He was fired (ahem retired early) while under investigation for corruption. He was paying contracts to a company that was not performing any services. A young officer discovered the payments during an internal audit and was told to drop it. The auditor ended up resigning under threat of retaliation and then sued the police department. Larry “retired“ shortly after the lawsuit was filed.

He was blacklisted from obtaining another job until this year when he got the job as police chief in ft lauderdale within the last year. Well guess what just happened THIS WEEK - HE FIRED THE AUDITOR WHO WAS INVESTIGATING HIM FOR CORRUPTION IN FT LAUDERDALE.

This is all publicly verifiable - just search his name with “Pittsburgh“ and “ft lauderdale”.

The most pissed off he was during the game was when RJ threw that cross court baseline pass out of bounds. Unforced error when we had all the momentum.
I did feel bad for RJ in that instance. It was however a costly TO and a real momentum killer for us. I’m not sure how he thought he was ever gonna be able to get that pass through there the way he tried to throw it relative to where he and his intended receiver were on the court. It would of had to defy the laws of physics and basic geometry to make that work.

Sometimes I wish there was a way to let these freshman play through s few more of their mistakes here and there. But I really think Brad’s trying in that regard. He’s mentioned on several occasions he: needs and wants to start trusting them more and more. No one could blame him for leaning on his veterans.

I just fact checked myself and actually Larry was the assistant police chief at the time and his chief is the one who initiated the audit which sounds even worse.

‘Former Assistant Chief Larry Scirotto, who retired earlier this year, is one of the other officials Rosato-Barone named in the November internal complaint. He was supervising the police bureau’s portion of the OMI staff when Rosato-Barone’s complaint was lodged.”

Waiting for the movie…any guess what actor will play Pruman? You get one.
There is only one possible answer for the actor who would portray @pruman91. This is not subject to debate.

Yeah, unfortunately it's hard to replicate game experience in practice. But that's where it starts. In the NBA, you can give guys more minutes because the season is so long. Not so in college, especially tough conference play.

Yes, but by point 15 in the 2nd half and him torching us, I would think a switch would've been warranted even if it leaves Christie a little more free to operate. Go with what is actually happening, which is walker on a heater vs going with the potential of Christie to go off.
Trent shutting down Christie was actually happening too. I wouldn’t take that for granted. Leave him open and he’ll plug the shots. Christie is talented.

I just don't get it. I went to watch ISU vs Bradley in Peoria today. About half way through the second half, I realized how great the officiating was. It's the Missouri Valley for Pete's sake!! That being said, I've never seen more incompetent reffing than in the Big 10 this year. On any level.

Hope it doesn't affect our run iin the NCAA's :(

Great win today FIGHTING Illini!!
It always affects every B1G team come tourney time.

I totally agree. That play was like the sloppy stretch in the 2nd half against NW. too cute and forced.

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Kofi Cockburn scored 27 points, Jacob Grandison had a season-high 24 and No. 12 Illinois held off No. 19 Michigan State 79-74 on Saturday.
Illinois (19-7, 12-4 Big Ten) moved ahead of No. 15 Wisconsin and into a first-place tie with No. 5 Purdue in the conference standings.
“That went about how I thought it would,” Illinois coach Brad Underwood said. “I loved the fight and the grit, and that what I thought it took today.”
Tyson Walker scored a season-high 26 points and A.J. Hoggard had 15 for the Spartans (18-9, 9-6), who never led and trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half. Michigan State has lost four of five.

“I didn’t think we competed in the first half,” Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said. “In the second half, we scored 52 points against the best defensive team in the league. I don’t like saying we’ll learn from a loss, but I think we’ll learn from this. I think we competed harder (in the second half), but we couldn’t get over that 10-point stretch.”

Big picture

Illinois: The Illini had lost two of their previous three games, falling at Rutgers and at Purdue. Three of their final four regular-season games are at home as they chase a Big Ten title.

Michigan State: The Spartans could fall out of the AP Top 25 after going 0-2 this week.

Up next

Illinois: Hosts No. 18 Ohio State on Thursday.

I like Izzo being bitter. It makes me Laugh. :)
Izzo brought football to the basketball court when he came to Michigan state and he complains about someone backing someone down. Give me a break. Izzo is the biggest whiner about officiating when he loses next to coach K. If he had the biggest, baddest guy on the court he wouldn't complain.

This was yet another game where having more than one defensive system would have been beneficial. Teams will watch this tape and try to exploit the high ball screen in the same way that MSU did today. Of course, it worked until MSU got super hot, but they were also super cold on the same shots in the first half. If we throw a zone at them in the middle of that run, we could force them to try something else besides spamming the high ball screen. Maybe it gets a couple stops and knocks them out of rhythm, or at least forces them to try something else.
TY! I'm all over this.

And you can employ it for just one or two defensive stands if you like. Give them a new look. Something new to think about. Occasionally it's nice to shake things up just a bit.

City council fired auditor after an anonymous report was filed for him working a secondary job while on tax payers time card. It had to be someone internal because they provided a report of him being "clocked in" but also a screen shot of him officiating at the same time. The mayor said the auditor was only to investigate things that he and the council wanted investigated.

The whole system sounds corrupt, as does some calls throughout the year by many B10 officials at critical moments.

I logged into a basketball message board and a QANON meeting broke out. 🤗
