I agree...strength is not his problem at all. However, I'm really not sure if he has it in him. I haven't seen the athletic ability for him to finish at the rim. Not sure he has the length to do it either. Also, he is very mechanical. Doesn't have a feel for the game. Some guys are just ball players. Feliz for example...didn't necessarily have the height or athleticism. But he just knew how to play. Miller might only be a 3 point shooter. Kinda reminds me of dj Richardson. Except not as good of a shooter. Haven't been very impressed with him at all. I hope my opinion is proven wrong next year or we are going to be hurting!
I think he has it in him. It’s more confidence and learning how to use his body to make space and draw fouls. He has the body. I believe He’ll make that big jump from freshman to sophomore year.

I got into a debate a couple of weeks ago regarding the significance of Kofi's defensive presence in the paint. Someone else mentioned that Nnanna was effective too, which is valid. However, I still argue that Kofi is much more dominant defensively and will be nearly impossible to replace once he departs.
Not sure what there is to debate. Kofi is a far better player than Nnanna. Nnanna worked his tail off and was a nice player but he had his limits on both ends. KOfi will most likely be playing in the NBA

Wow! Just watched Coach McCaffrey’s press video and man! Way to come off as a real Pr*ck!
Glad he simmered down. I have to say, I get a little tired of seeing SOME of these coaches act like real sore losers in these press conferences. Their contract obligates them to speak to the press, I mean come on. You get paid millions of dollars to coach college basketball. We all have emotions and are huge fans of our respected teams, however, that being said is it too much to act with some decency? It’s not the end of the world. You are going to fine. Your life is far greater than most will ever be. Reminds me of what an !!! Bob Knight was. Lou Henson never acted like that. Great win for the program and the Illini. Still have a hard time understanding how they use Adam Miller or what he is trying to do out there. Another zero point game. I watched him more in the second half and it was more of the same. He just stands there behind the 3pt line in the corner waiting to launch a three. None of which he made and that is about it.
If he is at the top of the key it’s more of that maddening offense of a three guard weave passing nonsense.
I really don’t know what that is. No screens, not driving the ball, just a moronic passing of the ball outside the arc. And one player Kofi trying to establish position.

Then I watched Iowa. Constant movement. High screens. Pick a roles. Bringing Garza out to the three.

I know we won this one. And I am glad we did.
But for the life of me our offense, when set up is just maddening to watch. In my opinion it is so elementary, so easy to defend, so high risk that I can’t believe we Can win with it. It took Trent scoring over 20 and Grandison have a double double.
Glad we beat Iowa. I grew up closer to Iowa city than ChambAna, so I loved we beat them again!!!
Just wish with the talent we have we ran a better offense. Because as I have stated it is just maddening to watch. I am really surprised Adam Miller doesn’t create more of a shot. Never thought of him as some sharp shooting three point specialist but that is about all he does. And it’s not working! Hope he gets more aggressive with his game. He needs to!
On to the next one. Go Illini!!

This post is a rollercoaster.

Turnovers is an important stat missing from this picture. Another outlook is that we would have won this game by double digits if we could cut down on some of the silly turnovers. This was a great game, but we’re not even hitting our ceiling yet. The big question is whether we will and if we can do so consistently.
Agreed Jacob G playing with more self-confidence
If DW and AM had hit a couple game might not have been close

Weight room helped improve Ayo's game, in addition to practicing 8 hours a day. :)
It will do the same with Curbelo.

Is this the post-game you watched? Seems pretty tame to me.
Other than suggesting in future games me might have to help Garza get to the free throw line (he only shot 1 i guess), Coach Francis seemed be pretty civil after a tough loss.

Missed the game last night --- but just finished watching on Tivo. Two things that jumped out to me:

1. Offensive consistency for 40 minutes. We looked very fluid. No significant scoring lulls. And our pace was excellent -- always looking to run if it was there. We didn't stress when Iowa would hit a long 3-pointer to go up by two. Instead, we'd answered with a bucket of our own. And I loved our ball movement against the zone. Grandison in the middle at the FT line is really, really effective. He's a great distributor, but will also face the basket and drill the 12 footer.

2. Intensity on defense for the entire 40 minutes. Appropriate double-teams and tons of help defense. Iowa averages 92-93 pts per game and we held them to 75.
Agree, but it's not like Squawks are a defensive-minded juggernaut. That's been their Achilles heel the past few seasons with this group.

watching his HS tape he definitely has a mid range game. I think it’s just not his role on this team this year and hence he’s uncomfortable.

Ah yes our elementary easy to defend offense that is top 10 in offensive efficiency according to most advanced measures....it only looks maddening because you don't know what to look for.

Just curious.....did Miller lose a bet or something? Asking for a friend.

Nanna was a solid defender but he never was the fear factor Kofi is.

Sure, but it takes a big chunk of the season for KenPom to be that locked into its expected outcomes. Predictions are only as good as the data they're based on.

We didn't move in NET either. Iowa fell one spot but we stayed at 7. 10 games or so is likely enough for KenPom to be pretty locked in. That's what... 1500ish total games of data?
