Definitely vote for more DGL. His explosive first step and good defense are a good combo.Needed more DGL and Morez in the 2H. Brad’s continual overusage of starters leading to fatigue is what made this game close IMO (that and Davis looking like Trae Young)
I’m just a lowly high school coach, but learned this from a great mentor of mine. Here you go, Brad.
“Circle”
Stack your 5 and your 1, with 3 (best scorer) and 2 (or 1) standing on opposite sides of the fence/stack.
3 breaks in front of the fence, using it as a screen, 2 breaks behind, as the safety option.
Hit 3 going to basket, if he’s not open, can throw to 1 in backcourt.
Once 2 and 3 finish their “circle”. 5 backpedals deep as a “throw it up high” option and 1 breaks towards ball as option to pass in and then hand it off to 4.
Preferred outcome: Layup to 3.
Alternatives: Backcourt to 2, short pass to 1, high pass to 5.
Once teams scout it, can simply reverse the direction of the circle or have them “fake” the normal circle and reverse it.

Man those last 4 3 pt attempts I wish would have gone inside. Anybody watching the game new that’s where we were winning. Those were wide open looks by Tomi, he just missed them.2s: 26-40 for 65%
3s: 5-26 for 19%
And with one of their guys going into insane mode late.
How about Ben with 6 rebounds. There was some good that came out of this game and not so good.
Good:
Bam finally hit some layups
We have KJ
We have Tre
We won

that's what it looked like to me too100% agree. The plays are fine, but when the game is getting hot....guys aren't making hard cuts, they're not coming to the ball, the inbounder panicks and I don't think that KJ knows the rules of the backcourt on an inbounds play. I suppose you could pin that on Brad?
I have so much confidence when DGL drives to the hoop. He’s great with those finishes around the rim and loved the make over Jase Butler.I am really enjoying how DGL always affects the game when he goes in.
Quick moves to the rim and that block on the slam, insane.
I agree- it’s ironic because side wouldn’t have put KJ on a smaller, quicker guard but it worked - it may have also been “ nobody else has stopped him” kind of approachI thought KJ was great on Davis...
Love that we got the W when the threes weren't falling. Can't expect to go 16/29 from three every night. You have to find other ways to score and we did work in the paint today.we shot 19% from 3. 19%. and still finished 47% from the field and scored over 80pts on the road.
this team is a problem.
I liked Ben backing down and playing more physical today; 6 rebounds is a nice counting stat for him too.
feels like the rotation is settling in a bit more; I like the up tick in MJ and DGL; would love to see more of them.
Thanks for your thesis, but by let down I mean being up 17 and letting an inferior team come back and almost win the game.Well, we scored 81 points (not indicative of a let down), we were up 17 in the first half (not indicative of a let down), we led by 11 at half time (not indicative of a let down), we overcame a guy who hit a zillion threes even though he's, what, sub-35% on the year (not indicative of a let down), and we showed real poise down the stretch with some clutch buckets, made free throws, and winning plays on defense (not indicative of a let down).
We did shoot poorly from three (not indicative of a let down), and made a bone-headed inbounds pass... was that the thing that was indicative of a let down?
Yep. And we still won, despite so many of our 3's just not falling. That's the game that even great teams lose.Always some goof having a career night. Seems to happen to Illinois a lot thru the years.
