Illinois 87, Nebraska 84 OT Postgame

B1G refs tend to let a lot of stuff go, which is why I think the conference tends to struggle in the tournament. You start getting called for things that have been let go for months, end up getting in foul trouble and playing tight.
That's one of my main worries for this squad. We have been great at avoiding fouls in conference, and we tend to get reactive when they get called.
Don't most of these guys work multiple conferences?

I agree - unless the other team is pressing/trapping us I think somebody else should move the ball up the floor quickly.

Damask has been playing close to 40 minutes per games. I think there were couple games where he did play 40. Brad has to substitute for him so he can rest some. In last 5 minutes of couple games he looked exhausted and made some bad turnoves trying to back in. I think it is also affecting his defense.

I would be more comfortable having him or Luke in bounds the ball. No more Harmon please.

Been thinking about this too and 100% agree we need to push tempo more. Some of the best we looked all year was the game where Moretti got hurt, and before his injury, we were FLYIN' again!

Domask is the one person I want to see on the floor.

I feel like I'm the Orange Krush police after home games, but this video perfectly encapsulates what drives me nuts about the Krush:

10 seconds left in OT. We desperately need a stop to seal a win. The woman in the middle is the only person going crazy and making noise the entire time. Everyone else in the shot either freezes or basically does a golf clap.

Every. Single. Krush. Fan. should be going absolutely bonkers and creating as much noise as possible. That noise and craziness will make it that much harder on our opponents. It's baffling how they don't and it makes me sad/mad.

I have a hard time dealing with Domask walking the ball across half court. The initiation of the offense slows everyone down and no one is moving. I would like to see him pass the ball and try to get the matchup he likes for a post up closer to the basket.
I agree. It’s incredible how we got so many layups once that extra pass on the dribble drive was made, including by Domask. It’s hard on him because he’s wired to shoot but a minor mental adjustment would help us a lot.

But it would be better for someone else to bring it up. Not sure we have it this year though

I've been pretty critical of the Krush but I do want to give them props for their performance last night. Almost felt like they had read this board because from the outset they were pretty loud (while the rest of the crowd was absolutely zonked) and they had a few organized chants which made a big difference in the atmosphere. Hope they keep that up!

You're not wrong though. I think there was just so much raw nervous energy the last 7 minutes of game time that took the Krush out of their rhythm a little bit. Good on that girl for bringing it til the final buzzer sounded though.

Harmon or Domask should be getting the ball in those situations

I recorded and watched this game late, as I had church tonight.

I'm surprised to see so much negativity. Nebraska has been quite good, although I understand they hadn't played on the road well. Furthermore, they played with a ton of good fortune, as many have stated.

Ty Rodgers and Luke Goode were monsters on the boards. Love to watch the hustle on the boards.

Kensei Tominaga is my favorite opposing B1G player of all time. I enjoyed watching him go on heaters similar to this against other teams, and I still smiled when he hit those wild stepbacks tonight. I mean, come on, a left handed Japanese basketball player playing for Nebraska? It's just too uncommon. Plus the kid clearly just loves the game, smiling all the time. I hope he puts them in the S16 with a couple heater games.

I want to thank you all, my IllinoisLoyalty famILLy, for your kind words and support. This may be a small anonymous internet community, but I really feel the heartfelt sincerity of almost 200 of my Illini brothers and sisters, and I am overwhelmed by the kindness and compassion so many of you have shown. @Dan, I want to thank you for creating such a wonderful forum. It is truly special. @skyIdub , I want to thank you for this post. Again, I’m so sorry about the loss of your “Bro.” The thought has crossed my mind that maybe, just maybe, Charlie, can help direct an Illini NC run with the same result…I’m going to pour myself one tonight and toast to that hope as well. 🧡💙
I agree. Let’s get to the FF and win a National Championship for Charlie

Each of us has our ‘blood’ family.

Many of us have a workplace family.

Many of us have a church family.

Many of us have a hobbies family.

And (around places like this) people like us have our sports-fanatics family.

And very often... we find some in our blood family that also are part of our sports fanatics family. And that is powerful. Two strong ‘families’ of ours that bond us together that amplify our brother-and-sister-hood to each other and our passion for a common interest beyond what flows in our veins. That passion gives energy and joy to our lives. And it creates that unique bond between sports-brothers/sisters.

Without the bonds of love and friendship and common interest and purpose... no sport of any kind means much of anything. Just an expenditure of energy and movement until and unless we add a layer of meaning and significance to what goes on there.

We are expecially blessed whenever we find our blood family and sports family blending together. A bond like no other. And the times that we share together go on without end. They live within us as much as the breath we take.

Blessings to you and to all of us who see ourselves in you in this moment.

I see this game how I see a good scramble team making par on the #1 handicap hole.

You probably don't gain anything....but you also probably don't lose anything. You usually can't make a bogey and win a scramble.

We made a par. After shanking our tee shot into the water on 18.

And yet, we were up 10 late. We will truly be elite when we seize what we have but not turning the ball over during this time. This happened with Marquette so it is a pattern.

Also, I forget where I read about “kill shots” that measured a teams ability to go on a 10-0 run, and we ranked high in that category. But we also ranked high to give them up. We have to work on that aspect.

It's Evan Miya that tracks it. We average 0.77 kill shots per game (17 total) and we allow 0.32 per game (7 allowed).

Michigan State has allowed just one all year.

If Nebraska makes the tourney (I think they will), they will be a dangerous team. A bunch of good offensive sets and great shooters. And their defense always forces a lot of 3’s. In a single game if they manage to be hitting their 3’s and you aren’t, you’re cooked.

If we aren’t one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country, we lose that game by 10+. Glad we have so many different ways to win, and actually pretty impressive to win a game against a team that good when they are on and we can’t make a 3.

That said, let’s start playing our best ball from here on out, starting Saturday in East Lansing.

Excited to see if we can get some things cleaned up/tightened up with a week to just work on us.
I think you make a good point about shooting threes. By your measure, we got cooked. We were very lucky to win.

I thought the opposite- if both teams shoot their average percentage, we win by 15-20 points. We whooped them in every phase of the game except shooting the basketball (which is a pretty important part, don't get me wrong, but I think if lady luck was in the building on Sunday... she was obviously a Nebraska fan).

You're not really disagreeing with me.Seems like we're on the same page.
