A minor aside:

Purdue's last, or next to last gasp came when they needed to execute an OOB play to perfection. Every Purdue player went to their perfect spot, and then the inbound pass sailed over Cluff's head and over the endline. It was so nice to see some other team screw up an OOB play for once.

Ben Humrichous and Jake Davis have played a combined 742 minutes and have 6 turnovers combined on the season.
Speaking of Jake, has anyone checked his personal offensive efficiency numbers? Iirc, going into the game he was number 2 in the nation (with Cluff no.1).

Didn't we lose a game at Minny a year or two ago where it was a similar situation? We had stats that would win 99 out of a hundred games, but lost?

Mirk’s defense was key to that turnover…might have even got away with a mild hold. 😎. Love that result and it was nice being on the other end of a late OOB play.

EVERYBODY just looked around like, “what just happened???”

Looking at the replay, I thought Mirk did in fact get away with a hold. But Cluff didn’t protest so it may have just been standard operating procedure in the post.

Another aspect of this closing stretch was not just how good Keaton was at making decisions, but the decisions of everyone else too- the awareness of Tomi when Braden switched on him not to set the pick and to tell Andrej to do it. And for Jake to cut to the basket drawing defenders to give Tomi a wide open three, etc. we have some high IQ players on offense! I don’t recall seeing a team as good at playing GM level Chess like that in real time

Matt Painter has been one of the best coaches in the country for some time and this team just put him in a locker - he had no answers for them

I’m surprised that I feel Wagler’s game is not getting the recognition it deserves. Numerous comments like best Illinois game since Kaufman against Eastern Illinois just aren’t an even comparison.

This is the best performance by an Illini ever. 46 points on 17 shots against the #4 team in the country on the road in maybe the most difficult arena to play in the country in a win.

I’m going to keep it to non March Madness games to keep it apples to apples (having a big Final Four game even if statistically less impressive might be a better performance). Wagler’s game is not just the best Illini performance ever it is on a short list of greatest college performances ever.

I’m pretty sure no one has ever beat a top 5 team while scoring 46 or more (on 17 shots) ever. Has anyone ever even done that against a top 10 team? Top 20?

I love that Keaton had a record day. I think it bears remembering that his three with 9:20 left was his last three attempt. From there until the last couple possessions, he was 0 of one from the field, and two of four on free throws. Those two assists in crunch time kinda define for me "letting the game come to him" and mark him as special.

And his teammates sinking them is even bigger for me, and makes this team special!

Also, I kinda wish they tracked assisted two's and assisted threes separately. (Or give him an assist and a half for an assisted three.)

Lots of “yes, but recency” comments, but let’s just celebrate the performance for whati was, generational and elite.

After watching La Tulip's breakdown, I wonder if what we lost with Boswell's D we gained with Jake's offense, specifically his 3pt shooting. Would 3 PU defenders sprint toward an open Boswell in the corner like they did with Jake? Just the threat of him shooting kept the floor spaced and their defense stressed. (Yes, Jake is good at D, and Boswell can shoot and drive to the hoop, just talking about their superpowers here).

That felt like the biggest Illini win since Iowa State in the tournament and against Iowa to win the B1G championship... in my head, I truly did not believe we'd win, especially when we got down 11 in the first half.

Heck, I am going to watch the game again today. I love this team. It would not surprise me if Wagler "only" scores 11 points next game but flirts with a triple-double-- it was incredible the way he resisted jacking up heat check shots and just let the game come to him. I am still stunned by what we witnessed yesterday, lol.

Credit also goes to Jake (so solid, what a great pickup from Mercer of all places), Tomi (he loves to hit big 3s near the end of games), Ben (he did hit some big 3s yesterday and played his role), and Andrej (chased Braden around for most of the game). Mirkovic might be my favorite player on this team, though. I love his attitude and I love he is big enough to defend players like TKR but can hit threes, pass, and bring the ball up the court. He cracked me up matter-of-factly saying he'd kill himself if he didn't play without even a hint of a joke/smile.

On Purdue: Braden Smith was phenomenal. Did Loyer even play in the second half? Painter always seems to pull him lately against us and it feels like it really hurts their offense when he's not out there hitting threes and flopping (although Jack Benter appears to be his heir apparent for the flopping). Nobody had the guts to ask Painter about Loyer in the press conference. Oh, and I feel compelled to note that Cluff is a dirty player... the refs let him get away with so much shoving, often just enough to affect a particular play.

I wonder how many Purdue fans are fearing they are going to turn into Marquette next year. No, I don't think there will be a dropoff that bad, but they lose their big three plus Cluff. Mayer will be a good PG next year but he's nowhere near as good as Braden Smith.

Although I hate it when we lose to Purdue, overall I respect, and even like Painter. The one thing I hate about his coaching is that he is obviously is coaching his players to flop. The whole team does it. How many times did we see a Purdue player jerk his head back on even minor contact? I assume most players try to sell a foul, but Purdue is over the top with it, and the refs often bite on it.

Just chillin today with a smile from ear to ear thinking about our roadkill victory yesterday............I guarantee that ole pru will be replaying this win numerous times in the near future...........such a satisfying victory and how we closed out this win gives me goosebumps about our ceiling this season............

Keaton was exceptional but so was the rest of the team...........high IQ abounded in the last 4-5 minutes of the game and dead-eye shooting brought home the victory we needed..............

GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!!!!
