Illinois 95, Iowa 85 Postgame

As much as it pains me to admit, Iowa is one of the better offensive teams. I thought our 2nd half defense was passable.
I think they’re a tough defend. Got some plus midrange shooters. Really difficult to defend all three levels of scoring effectively.

I thought they hit some tough ones in the first half, they didn’t fall in the second. Defense was obviously better too, but it felt like they were 75%+ from 15ft and out on 2s.

Let's all slow the roll on Nico supplanting Domask. Like some mentioned, sure, he can play vs teams like Iowa & Michigan. Domask had the same amount of turnovers as Nico in double the minutes. Can't agree with the calming PG hoopla. He looked really erratic often. Hit a couple threes otherwise his line is pretty meh.

Guy will be good for us in small doses, but savior he is not.

If you didn’t watch the game you won’t realize it but Nico did everything we needed him to do. Could be huge for March
I truly believe there's an alternate universe in which he doesn't get hurt and has evolved into a key contributor this whole time.

Obviously very limited from a size/strength perspective, but he really offers a skillset the rest of the team doesn't have.

I admire those who recognize match ups will dictate playing time opportunities.

Completely disagree. Players develop with minutes, domask has played thousands of minutes in college basketball and we know he is NOT a PG, but BU has forced him to try to be one with very little effectiveness. OH, then we tried to make a guy who is a 3-4 guy play PG and tell everyone it's going to work. Neither has been effective. Look at all the top teams in college basketball, they have true PGs playing the PG position.

Putting all your marbles in the transfer portal for a PG every year is ludicrous. Develop a player who is showing signs he can do it.

Moretti should log 20 minutes a game every game moving forward, then we can really evaluate what he is.

i would be surprised if Moretti logged 20 minutes a game moving forward. I like his skill set, but his ability to stay in front of quicker, smaller guards would be an issue and bigger guards would take him to the woodshed. If you factor in the constant switching on defense, he would be a real liability on defense. It would be the same thing you see from Dainja.

Same thing we see with Goode?

Everyone keeps talking about defense like we are lock down. All this length equates to 80 pts a game?

Let's see some player development, and maybe we can implement a guard who can help us salvage a game in the last 4 minutes.
