Illinois 97, Michigan 68 Postgame

This was TJ’s best game back. The most impressive play to me was not any of the 3s but that crossover and drive on Llewelyn for the and-1. He needs to have a handle in the half court. That was the most slowed down the game has looked for him since his return to me.
I was most impressed that TSJ knocked knees with someone drawing blood and after shaking it off didn't seem to even lose a single step. I can't imagine how much that must hurt.

Brad asked him if he wanted some run in the second half and he said no…..before everyone panics his back is still messed up.
Unfortunately, I think that's why many on here are concerned. Back issues can derail a big's career before it ever gets started. I think all of us are just hoping he can fully recover at this point and want him to take all the time he needs to get there. He's a really promising young player- just need him to get himself healthy.

Friendly reminder:

UM & Shannon wanted Tech to use a scholarship for TSJ to complete summer classes so he could transfer to UM…

Tech said screw that.

Shannon committed to Illinois.

I would like to see Hawkins, Quincy and Luke work on their defense. Of Michigan's 24 field goals last night 20 were in the paint. That needs to stop now! If they can't keep Omiyuri, Young and Julian Reese out of the paint it will be a long sad trip to the east coast. It seemed like every time Luke and Dra stepped on the floor last night within a few seconds they fouled someone. Luke's shooting has been horrible, he has been billed as a top free throw shooter yet what I have heard is CLANG! For this team to be very good they need some scoring from Quincy, Harmon and Luke on a consistent basis.

Great game from our guys. Michigan should be embarrassed. Being down almost 40 in conference is so bad, not sure how Juwan survives this

The coach-player interaction and the nonverbal communication may of suggested potential problems.

Of course when a team is dead last in the conference and looking at a 20 plus loss season, it would be hard to put on a "happy face,"

Dating back to 1905, Illinois has never fielded at team that lost 20 games or more.

IANAI but I know one at Michigan. Juwan knows his fate. Nothing will happen in-season.
To some extent, Michigan's decision hinges on how poorly the rest of the season goes. KenPom has the Wolverines projected to finish at 11-20, which would probably be grounds for termination, even if it means risking losing a major commitment from top-30 recruit Khani Rooths.
But if they can go 6-6 down the stretch and pick up a couple of quality wins along the way, maybe they let their Fab Five coach come back for another year.

Where is this narrative coming from that Luke’s shooting has been horrible? If you want to point at the Nebraska game, fine. Every shooter on the planet will have games like that. Luke’s shooting over 38% on the year on 5 attempts per game. Any team in America would take that. And who billed him as a top free throw shooter?

Sorry if I struck a nerve. He is an excellent shooter and was never billed as a top free throw shooter- CLANG!
