Again...watching the replay. Love pausing and rewinding to watch some of these sequences.

Hansberry comes in around the 2:54 mark of the first half after Dainja turnover and has just a fantastic sequence to end the half...

Starts with ripping down a rebound and outlet to TSJ for that light speed highlight dunk.

Gets a great feed from TSJ under the basket for a bucket....Immediately goes down and gets a tie up rebound on the defensive side.

For a freshman to come in and impact this type of game to keep us close to end the half should not be overlooked.

He is going to be an absolute manster by the end of this season.

Maybe it was just my imagination, but watching Brad in the Rutgers and FAU games, I don't rememeber seeing him so relaxed (that does not mean he wasn't intense). I never saw him lose his mind screaming at blatantly bad calls. I saw him make his point and move on (sometimes with a smile). Nor get in the face at any player at some point in the game. I don't know Brad Underwood, but he seems to be acting like a coach that knows his team can overcome anything and he doesn't have to explain it to this group over and over in frustration. JMHO.

Love my guy, AI, but there's a reason he never won a championship. When you listen to BU talk this season, he keeps mentioning how well practice is going and that so many guys have been putting in massive effort. Contrast that to last year, where he consistently complained about practice, said guys weren't focusing, and that they couldn't implement what they wanted because they needed to spend so much time on the basics. Brad knows you practice how you play. He saw last year coming while we were bamboozled by the talent. Between his comments about practice and his demeanor on the sidelines, he knows he has a group of veteran dogs that have shown they can do it a million times in practice and can get the job done under the lights.

I like Parrish and Norlander best on the "national" podcast stage.

They handled this better than others looking back on last night.

Not to add to the paranoia / inferiority complex many of us have, but I do note that only three of the four schools are tagged here.

Domask has spent the last 4 years wishing someone would try to check him with a 6’3” guard. You must put your best defensive player on TSJ. Marcus has never had this type of luxury.
It says a lot about the makeup of this team that Domask has been so willing to settle into a role when he is capable of what we witnessed tonight.

If there is a better player in the country than TSJ this year, I haven’t seen him yet. He should be in any POY conversation moving forward. Edey is massive, but Terrence is a basketball player.
Boo Buie. Ask him.

Some of these takes are laughable.

“FAU was definitely not at their ceiling. Goldin played only ~20 min (and still killed it during those minutes)”. - It’s called foul trouble. Why was Goldin in foul trouble? Going after Goldin aggressively. Give credit to the Illini defense on the big guy.

“Need more looks for Goode”. - Huh? You give the ball to your hot hands until proven otherwise. Domask and TSJ were unstoppable.
There will be a game(s) where Goode will take over.
Meh. He's averaging fewer than 22 minutes per game anyway.

LOL... I know...

Even if we change this to use Grandison instead of Ayo as the example being made, I think you could easily argue FAU has better without Boyd. With him in the lineup, they are 2-1 with wins over Loyola Chi and Eastern Michigan and lost to... wait for it... Bryant University. With him out of the lineup, they are 5-1 with wins over Butler, Virginia Tech, #12 Texas A&M, Liberty and Charleston and the one loss to #20 Illinois. His shooting percentages are terrible and they've played much better without him. The guy that replaced him in the starting lineup (Martin) has averaged 17 points per game in those 6 games without Boyd.

Literally just got to that above sequence after Dan's post. CoHawk sequence.

3:00 mark and we are only up two. CoHawk hits his open 3...(that i'm guessing a lot of us thought at the time was a dagger)...but FAU goes down and answers immediately.
Next trip down is the above MLTulip mentioned possession.

Then he defends Goldin the next trip down forcing a missed hook before he gets bailed out on a put back foul...missing 2 FT's OMG FREE NUGGS!!
Often, when CoHawk does something boneheaded, it's conspicuous; when he makes stellar plays, they're subtle. What he did on Vlad last evening was a quiet masterpiece.

All I will say about Coleman Hawkins is I would like to see him get called for a foul and for ONCE not complain to a ref, and believe me I'm not the only who thinks this
It's who he is and it likely won't change. As Nietzsche noted: "Be careful, lest in casting out your demon you exorcise the best thing in you." I've grown to understand the wisdom in that maxim over the years.

I'll miss the guy when he's gone (CoHawk, not Nietzsche ;) )

I was surprised by the lack of an adjustment. You would think at some point, they’d make Domask and Shannon give it up and let someone else beat you. We don’t shoot 3s well as a team, so you only need to account for Goode (usually). I was also surprised how sure handed Domask was with the ball. I’m sure moving forward, there’ll be adjustments made by opponents .
You can’t make Shannon give it up when he’s beating you off picks or down the floor and finishing through contact. They try but he’s too big and strong. Plus you can’t double team 2 guys at the same time. Left with 1 guy guarding 3. Our other guys can make shots if wide open and can also finish at the rim if there are double teams elsewhere.

Bingo! you could do that last year. Not this year, especially with two guys demanding a double or triple team. Last year you could double Shannon and we didn't have much to make the opponent pay. This year we have Goode and Harmon to knock down threes if you double Domask or Shannon, but you also have better cutting from guys like Shannon if you double Domask and vice versa, or Guerrier and Rodgers cutting. We present other defenses problems in a lot of different ways. I like that we can be the team that moves the ball tremendously see (Rutgers) or can take advantage of matchups (see FAU). But most of all, I like that we play like a TEAM and seem to care about one another! And we're deep! Going to be a fun year!

Like I've been saying, FAU was playing at their ceiling. We aren't even close to our ceiling!
In general I agree with this. There are several areas where I see room for significant growth/improvement for Illinois. However, FAU's ceiling goes way up just if Goldin is able to play for 30 minutes a game. Very impressed with skills he showed tonight.

Like the Harmon drive that drew an important foul.
