I like seeing Ayo do that. Shows leadership and lets the Freshman know that he has their back. The double tech is laughable.

DJ bald head ref pulling a tv Ted.......can't stand him....not a D1 ref, IMHO

Lmao. Someone asks Brad in the postgame if he's concerned about opponents scoring 80 every game.

Brad's response:

Maybe I'm interpreting this wrong, but did anybody else notice that Trent was baiting the PSU defender at the end of the game, dribbling the ball over his head 5 or 6 times and then just leaving it on the floor with about 2 seconds left...sort of baiting him to try to steal it?
Definitely looked like it... And I am both 👍👍 for that.

Yeah...the trick is the fouling however. Coming into this game he was at like 7.5 fouls per 40 or something, meaning he cant play much more than 20-25 mins mathematically.
Today only 2 though so theres some big improvement. If we can keep him on the floor for 30/game that offense will be hummin

Coach did a great job of subbing and players mins....Curbello didn't play for 3-4 mins at a time then when he came in....WOW....that reverse layup was a top ten highlight......Grandison competed tonight...didn't look lost, but was aggressive and was diving on the floor and keeping the ball alive other times....
maybe that 3 he hit at RU woke him up...

Curbelo had starter minutes (27) so not necessary he starts but finishes. May be the spark needed off the bench but just before we are down by fifteen. Grandison looked like good Kipper tonite.
This regarding Curbelo. He definitely should play “starter” minutes because of his offense, but there is defense to think about as well as rotations throughout the game. BU can see what we do and loves the guy, so if he’s not starting him their are reasons.

One way I’d like to see his game expand is getting shooters involved. There are times when he seems to be only thinking drive and dump to Kofi or shoot himself. The results are certainly net positive, but there were at least two times I saw that from the right side he’d start to drive and the guy covering our guy in the corner would slide down to help on Curbelo — leading to TO or bad shot by Curbelo. Once it was Grandison and once Ayo wide open in the corner. Someone in game thread or this thread said the criticism of Curbelo being too ball dominant made no sense because you want your PG with the ball. That is one example of what I mean when I say that he can be too ball dominant.

haven't lost a ton of games scoring 98.......
True. Went back and looked, and this was the first regulation win we've had since Underwood's arrived giving up that many. We beat Rutgers 99-94 in OT in the 2019 game where Giorgi went crazy. However, it should count because it was 86-86 going into OT.

Glad to see Grandison got the post-game presser. Nice reward for his effort and play tonight.
Very well spoken mature interview.....22 yr old who could have pouted about mins, but he hunkered down and earned a big boost tonite....He is going to be needed as we move into the grinder that is the B1G......

Our defense is concerning in that we have had large portions of multiple games where it has been atrocious.

Scoring 98 is great. Giving up 80+ is sickening.
Coach said it best, because he knows his system best. Do you want them to start walking the ball up the court? The pace of play is one of the fastest and they are an elite team in transition. They do need to get better at making shots tougher on the opponent.

Was getting Malcolm Hill vibes in the interview, very impressed. Happy he's playing ball for us, even happier he'll be repping as an alumni for the rest of his life.

Good game - as I suspected, we had NO answer for Kofi... And an interim coach who tried to put a 6'4 player on him at times (I wonder if Garza will hit 40 against PSU?).

Illinois has the tools to have a very good season this year. I'm glad to see that you're back, as a program. It was odd to see Illinois at the bottom of the conference in the past bunch of years, with your history and tradition.

A PSU senior put our stud freshman on the ground in a 16pt game with 30 seconds left. Ayo politely let him know not to do that.
No, Curbelo took a dive and flopped. Stupid for Ayo to do that.

Jacob Grandison you keep playin like that man and you’ll take this team to another level
He crashed the boards very nicely tonight, and it paid off. Also, don't think we saw the twin tower lineup Kofi/Georgi. Could be just because of matchups, but it'd be swell to not have to force that, if we can keep getting some viable minutes from Grandison at the 4.
