Big News

So, it has been a few days. Can you say if this didn't end up happening, or there is still a chance?

Not complaining, just curious if I should keep checking.

Thanks

Would love to see this potential commit come to fruition. I despise the frequent use of the term "momentum" in sports, but there is likely some relationship of early commits and final recruiting rankings (would be an interesting study!).

When you get quality early commits, you have more to sell to guys later as they are not the first to jump in the deep end. Also, the more spots you fill early, the more attention you can give those last guys to fill the class instead of running every direction trying to get 20 accepts.

Sorry, guys. Looks like we just lead right now. Kid was close to pulling the trigger but was advised to wait it out a bit. Rivals will probably have an article out on him in the coming days.

Edit...looks like the article was posted. Prichett was the kid I was referring to.

Helluva offer list for that young man. Too bad he was advised to wait. Hopefully he pulls the trigger soon.

On the bright side, at least his Twitter cover photo is still of the Illinois football team :thumb:

Haven't read through the entire thread, but anybody know much about LB Sidney Willis from Georgia? He was tweeting some Illini stuff last night, and his twitter page has an Illini background. I saw a couple of tweets back and forth with Illini players. Yahoo doesn't show any offers, but he's got interest from a ton of major schools, and saw some tweets about visits.

His twitter handle is @Childof_God9

Just watched his hudl tape.. nothing about his tape made me say "wow"

Could end up being a late bloomer, but right now, isn't all that explosive on film and pad level is very high when lining up along the DL. Doesn't use rip/swim moves to disengage blockers.

I see what you are saying about the pad level, but watching the tape I see a player with a nose for the football and a taste for physicality. I am absolutely fine with pursuing this player. Has plenty of athleticism to bulk up to a DE or play as an OLB if we can get him lower and quicker. I like it.

Yeah I don't see a B1G player there.

If he camps and proves he can play in coverage I'd be interested.

One of the big things I didn't see was athleticism.. not explosive at all.

A major recruiting improvement Illinois has made is recruiting more athletic & explosive guys on the defensive side of the ball.. Think it would be best to stay along that track.

Agreed, I just think that as a junior in high school with room to improve he could end up being a solid pass rusher off the edge. I see little potential as a coverage LB, but he could also be a solid backup at the inside linebacker position, which is what 247 has him listed at now. I certainly don't think he is a future starter, but the staff has seen more of him than me, and my own opinion is that I am fine offering that kid a scholarship IF he develops nicely at the start of his senior year. I'm not saying he's a stud, just that I think he's better than you critiqued him as.

Edit: Just watched the Hudl tape for a second time, and now I am just curious where the staff wants to play him. He can tackle, he's decent at shedding blockers, but at a slightly fat 6'1'' 215-220 I'm not sure whether they intend to bulk him up and play him at LEO, or develop more quickness and speed and try ILB? He can make plays, I just don't know if he is fast enough for LB or has enough room to add weight to be a solid LEO.

Not sure the staff wants him to play anywhere. He was asking all of them to follow him back on Twitter. He is looking for an offer. Interest from schools but no offers according to Rivals. He is showing us interest but not sure we are interested in him. At least not right now.

Have heard he was pretty soft.. and personally haven't seen much to contradict that yet.. However Minnesota is probably the best place for him to develop (and I think they are interested in his younger brother).

Seems like we have some solid OL guys that are high on us in Nik Urban and Tyler Pritchett. Need to close on them.

Also seemed like Foster was never looking our way, rather see the coaches not waste their time.

yep, he was ABI all the way...I wasn't impressed, but he did have several offers:shield:

Guess we aren't getting Pritchett. Just saw a RT that he committed to UNC

Yup, it's up on 247 already. Wow, that sucks. So close to committing to us, and then after being told to wait by his advisors close to him (as posted by somebody else on this board) we end up not getting him. Feel bad for the staff, seemed like they handled him pretty well and had him excited.
