I don't know who the kid is, but I like the staff offering kids where we may have a connect or not. I know it was beefed about us offering a high rated player late earlier in this thread, but it is about establishing relationships. You get in with some schools that have some stars and sure we probably won't get those kids, but you never know they may have some 3 star kids in the pipeline they can send our way. I think if we do right by some kids in football factories, it can only serve you better later for the higher rated kids.

So let me get this straight. We are saying we should offer a kid in Cali to build future relationships but, refuse to make the same move with "In State" schools.

Lol when did he say that?

What irrelevant offer have they made to a kid in Illinois?

I never said throw out irrelevant offers. I simply stated that every offer we make seem to have great purpose and relationship building is a huge part of it. This staff has also done a great job repairing relationships in Illinois. Let me know if I can clarify anything else I didn't say.

I disagree as they have not landed a kid from the traditional top schools within the state. I didn't put words in your mouth, I wanted clarity in what you were saying. I added my opinion on building relationships (offering players in Cali similar to the players we have in Illinois) in other states and not Illinois. Maybe I missed something but I don't see where anything has changed within the state. I do feel they made a couple of good pickups but have not made headway in Illinois. I know some are excited about Moran but, truthfully the kid had 3 concussions last year. I am pretty positive Illinois was the only official big school offer the kid had left. There is still a lot of work to do in Illinois which to me should be the main focus.

Has this been stated anywhere in the media? If not, it's a strong statement against his high school for allowing him to continue playing.

It's also a pet peeve to point out concussions as truth, especially in high school sports with an injury so difficult to diagnose without a supervised medical professional.

I know of two for sure. He was only able to play in 3 full games last year. Left two early due to the issue I mentioned above. I am sure he was medically cleared each time and is fit to continue playing the sport. I am just pointing out why most teams have removed themselves.

I just really wish we could really win the state which I don't think is that hard to do. There are some really good football played in Illinois which mean there are some really great players. It eats me a live to watch a lineman from the New Lenox, IL area starting for LSU.

echoing other posters Title where are you getting this, his offers from Louisville and Iowa came after last season, if he really had no other offers why did they offer him this winter. Who is your source?

Especially when his older brother was a 3-year starter and had a solid career for the O&B

Listen it is not important. I am VERY close to Metro East High School football and I will leave it at that. I think it is great that he picked Illinois but, I can not pretend that he could cash in on those verbal offers. That being said I am only pointing out the recruiting efforts where not the reason for picking Illini. I would love for U of I to be the school of choice and I think it can be done. However I feel that we are constantly missing the boat. Example: Brian Hill from West that went to Wyoming would have committed to Illinois before they could get the offer out. Instead no offer and he goes to Wyoming and break Freshman records. I come on here and see we are offering mediocre kids in other states but fail to offer talented high two to three star athletes that may turn out to be better than expected.

I spoke on the Watson (ESL) and Beckner (ESL) issue before so there is not need to add to it. Bottom line is the recruiting efforts in the Metro East are horrible and a camp at O'fallon High will not do it. If the Big Blue call Moran today signing day would be a big disappointment. After what happened with the kid from SC and Petrino do you really think any kid would consider a Louisville offer? Definitely not a kid in his situation. Same can be said for Iowa and how that did the QB kid from Illinois.

Thanks for your perspective on shortfalls being presented by the UI football staff. Overall I like your posts as they are informative, but you always have one sentence that makes me think your content is too flippant, such as the bolded above. I understand recruits will be cautious about committing to Louisville after the PR issue with one of their recruits, but I can guarantee you they will secure commitments from the maximum-allowed recruits (they already have seven commitments for 2016). If Moran was not seriously considering the UL offer, then just say it. To me it just seems you want to discount the UL offer by pointing to a situation from last year that is not having the negative impact on their recruiting class as some predicted.

Unfortunately you missed my point. I am not saying Moran wasn't interested at all. As a matter of fact he took a trip on his dime to see the school. Louisville was used as a point to prove he had other offers. I am pointing out that Louisville is a school that will give a verbal but take it back when you try to cash in. I am saying if Moran tried to call and commit he would find out if he really had an offer or not. There are a lot of schools that "over offer" and kids don't find out until they try to cash in. I am in no way bashing or posting in a negative light about the situation. I am basically educating some on the reality. Things change when other commit like Iowa receiving a RB commitment in Jan 2015. Publications don't always remove teams from the offer list however the offers are not there. Another example is Watson LB from ESL. At one point he had 12 offers. By the time he committed to Kansas he was down to 4 true offers. The papers read he chose Kansas over schools like TCU, Mich, etc. Reality is he chose Kansas over Illinois and Indiana as those where the only other major schools recruiting him. No other school would have honored his commitment. When Kansas hired their new coach things changed for all that were offered in this area. The new coach is STRICTLY Texas which mean all the other offers are pretty much not there. I hope this help with understanding my point.

Ryan,
Could you please give a hint as to what the BIG news that is coming?
I am assuming a commit. Maybe you could give a clue?

Hmmm, waiting on confirmation of an actual commit first. All I can say it is a name I hadn't heard before and is someone everyone would be excited about. He plays on offense.

Can we get a position?

Like I said, I want to wait to make sure everything is official and not a false alarm. If something goes down, it will likely come out in the coming days

Tease.

Throw my random guess out for Cali. 4* OT Nathan Smith, who visited today.

That would be pretty darn cool.
