Great news! I really like the OL depth Beckman and co are stock piling. With the coaches ability to keep people on the team OL depth should good for years to come.

Beckman really is doing well with OL depth. It showed at Toledo and may be why Matt Campbell has been doing so well there since Beckman left. Toledo graduated 5 senior starters on the O-line last year. 3 of them it was their 3rd year starting together, another played for 2 years with the entire group and only one was a traditional 5th year senior starter.

At least on offense, I think Beckman knows that the battles are won in the trenches and you have to get a good O-Lineman pipeline going in order to be successful. We should pay attention to Toledo's offense this year and see how well they do after they graduated that many of Tim Beckman's recruits from the line.

Also, welcome Jake!

A very big get for us nearly a 4* talent. Very, very good all around skills that is already well along technically he will be playing by his rs sophmore year somewhere be it start or a swing as long as he stays healthy.

Great to hear. Again, thanks for putting your thoughts out there, I enjoy them.

Calibear, I am new to the forum so I am unaware of your background. Where do you see that he is a 4* talent? I see 2* on rivals, not ranked on ESPN, lower 3* on 247. I am not doubting your view on him just wondering why you think he is "nearly a 4* talent".

With that being said, the more o-linemen we get the better this team gets.

Obviously I'm not calibear, but he grades after watching tape and in the year or so I have been reading his reviews, I haven't seen him grade out too many OL Illini targets as high 3* or 4* talents. I'm unsure of his background, but he seems to be very consistent in how he grades these young players.

Just had to check the long answer and a sentence long response both failed to go thru again. So the extremely short version. Back in 82 I started watching the college games to figure out who my Bears should draft. I am self taught reading what ever I could by scouts on would they do and how they do it particularly what the looked for. I watched about 150 college games a year from 82 to 2011. In the neighborhood of 1500 to 2000 hours of tape a year. Health reasons forced me to stop after get some of health back I switched to watching the hs kids who were offered by our illini only.
When you watch a single player on a play sometimes 2 or 3 times and go player by player down by down and fast forwarding thru commercials and half times, learning more and more along the way you get pretty opinionated.
I also know my batting average for draft picks without knowing who got in trouble for what or what injury was still a problem. It was more than respectable. I will add this because it should be the bottom line on what kid you might like or dislike. Watch for yourself if only the guys that accept an offer and speak up if you disagree with anyone. They get it wrong alot!! as well. And yes to watch that many games a year you have no life.
Saddest part was until maybe 5 to 7 years ago you could talk to the biggest fans in the world and they had no clue and there was nothing to talk about .

Short version - very dedicated hobbyist with a well informed opinion and a love of Illini football. Longer version - His evaluations, as he has noted, are but one man's view but they are a real nice addition to the board as we learn about our new recruits. He is unedited but has always been delightful in answering any questions that you may have. Decipher and enjoy.

I have two issues in reporting what I have seen. Is my grammar and punctuations are poor. Second is my typing which was self taught (again with the self taught) and flawed which only adds to the first problem. These are are sometimes compounded by glidges in a program, or a site like here that fails to post something I have written. The first post came out with a much better explanation of my background and experience.
I push myself time wise and should not post as I don't proof what I have typed and tried to rush through something. And should know full well it is messed up but submit them anyways. Or just plain exhausted late night. So more than 2 reasons for my flaws.

Now I will give 2 true story under the category of what heck!!!
When I was 19 I moved to Chicago from the burbs with a best friend and found 2 more guys to rent an apartment with. My friend was a frequently published poet and writer. Nothing bg just good at his craft. One of the other guys got inspired ad decided he could write as well. You know how it is then you talk about everything mostly over coffee at some local shop or restaurant.
Well the other guy was as bad as my bud was good writing. Finally after say a year of constantly talking and taking turns come up with a line for a poem or a story. I decided I could not be worse than the other guy. I came up with the idea of series of spy stories based on an independent agency.
I researched a bunch of different things and created story and series points and began.
Well I had more problems with grammar an punctuation then now and could not type so it was all hand written rewritten proofed and and then turned over to some company that was some women who typed it also making some corrections including things that were they way they were on purpose.
I tried some publish houses and wrote back after a much longer time that after much consideration they declined to publish. I then landed an agent YES agent and he tried and had a publish house that was interested but the it need a treatment badly including my technical errors. I could not afford it at the time and being naive thought the agent was screwing me over. If I had the money this my seem much different in as effed up as these are I might have been a published author.

Tim Walton from Michigan is announcing Sunday. I will take him. I like Tymar Sutton more but alot people think Walton will be better in our scheme. Either one of those 2 and Ruff out of Florida would be a great LB Class

I know don't complain here on the site..... and yes Dan it must be my fault. No question except this is the only site I can sign in on, write something to post. And then have the sign up page pop up instead when I try to post, and it is frustrating all .... so change a curse word that slips out of everyone mouth occassionily back there. But this happens way to often and is a reason I rush some of the garbled stuff that does go out because I fear taking to long since I am such a lame typist and that i might run over the time allotment.
And why am I getting a description of an emogi instead of an emogi. Yes I know I did something to cause it ( seriously) but what do I do to correct it.

Couple things:

1) when you sign in, click the check box for "keep me logged in" or whatever it is.
2) The more unique emoticons appear as text when you're forming your message.. that's just how the site is.

While both Walton and Ruff have some impressive physical tools both and equally disturbing holes in their game currently that need to be overcome. Ruff very tough and strong physical lacking the ability to read and read act well. Walton very god speed and recognition lacks strength and power almost getting or getting run over. Both can be developed but they should be better at their deficiency's at this stage. Each a 5.55 or low 3* for me currently both guys I would like to see senior tape on after the season.
