I really like some of recent additions. Some strong offers from recent commits.

Trainer-Pitt, Virginia, V. Tech, Wake Forest, NC State
Lee-Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St, Texas Tech
Oliver-Virginia, Rutgers, Purdue, Pitt, Northwestern, Boston Col
Holcombe-Cal, Colo, Missouri, Purdue, Texas, Texas AM, Washington

Offer lists are very misleading that you see on the recruiting site databases... most of those offers listed for each of those prospects I don't think were 'commitable' - example: I think Virginia told Trainer they didn't have a spot for him after their new staff was in place.

So can anyone say whether our recruiting class has become better or worse through the recent sets of commits and de-commits?

I would side on better. Lee and Trainer were good pickups in my opinion. I also really like Holcombe, and I'm lukewarm on Abercrombie becoming a good linebacker down the road for us (same as I was with Walton). Shelton was an important loss, but with Oliver committing as Shelton de-committed we are fine. 247 bumped our class down two spots, but I disagree. I think it improved a little.

I can't keep up with all this. Now Shelton is gone, but we gain Trainer. This is going to be a completely different recruiting class by signing day compared to what we had just 2 months a go.

I disagree with you here.

Walton > Abercrombie
Shelton > Oliver

Harder to directly compare Moran and Black with Lee and Trainer, but I don't know that that trade was in Illinois' favor, especially given the lack of bodies on the DL

Oh I wasn't counting Moran. He was far and away our highest rated recruit. I don't view him as a recent loss since the academic issue's writing was on the wall for a long time. You also did not factor in Holcombe's commitment.

I agree with everything you just stated. I should've specified that my claim is getting Abercrombie, Oliver, Trainer, Lee and Holcombe was better than losing Black, Walton, and Shelton.

A sprint to the finish for sure. I get the feeling fans are a little more optimistic about this class with the latest additions and the potential recruits that could commit.

Great size and speed. I see he was offered on the 22nd. A visit this weekend?

Don't compare Walton to Abercrombie, compare him to Dele Harding. Those two are Mike Backers and Abercrombie is a will. And I am on the record Oliver is a 3 tech and I like him a lot more than Shelton

I like Carmouche and Dele Harding more. Harding is visiting this weekend. It is us vs SMU for Carmouche. Both would be our best recruit and the best LB recruit in a long time

Agreed, frankly I liked Hansen and Ambercrombie more than Walton.:tsk:

You are comparing a wlb in Ambercrombie with speed and excellent cover skills to a mlb based on power and good for a speed for mlb. Apples and Oranges Jacob.

I agree. I meant compare Walton to Harding. Abercrombie is a will, Harding and Walton are mlb. And on those two, I like Harding more

The only decommit I am sad about is Trevour Simms. Every other decommit we have got someone I like better even if their stars are worse. If Parchman ends up missing because of grades, I will be sad

So I am new to the whole football recruiting thread, and world of football recruiting in general. Judging by this week is it safe to say that a commitment holds about as much weight as my young son picking his favorite color?

We fired our head coach in August, our Defensive Coordinator and Linebacker coach in December and our lead recruiter left in November. There will be turnover in the connections to the staff

Yes, it pretty much means this is my favorite offer right now. I am going to reserve a spot and if something better comes along later. Then I may change my mind.
