A few guys we thought were high on the Illini or planning to visit are heading to check out other locations this weekend instead...

I think you will like it a bit to the degree of 4 star 5.9 rating

Sorry Jacob no 5.9 not even a 5.8 for Fitzpatrick. Oh I like him a lot and because of some of his intangibles I stretched a little and gave him a v high 3* 5.75. He does everything very well and I mean everything, but nothing struck me as elite. While he would make an excellent addition I am still waiting for a couple guys that can throw the fear of god in them when split out. Those guys just open the entire field.

I watched the tapes on all the visitors save Elias Reynolds.
What an excellent group for the is late in the season, only a couple guys did not excite.
Let me start with the OT's omg led by,
Grayson Stover Fl 6'6 293 one thing nearly everyone had was the brought some nasty to the dance. while he needs more work on his tech he is fluid with a knock out bunch that stop as a bull rusher and drive his man back immediately. Get to the 2nd level with ease and it is over. 4* 5.8 imo. Lt or RT
Mike Williams Al 6'6 270 vvg tech ft and hands, lil nasty, again fluid, goes hard till whistle vvg, sp, st, qu, burst, power, reaching 2nd level and sealing the deal, tuff, phy against pass and rush. hi 3* 5.7

Followed by Cronk who got a slight bump from on his senior tape to a 3* 5.7.
David Garfunkel unlike the others RT only from Ca 6'6 290 Needs work on hand placement & punch. VVg ft for RT , st, power, qu, burst, sp, reachs the 2 nd level where he is effective. VVg against pass set, rb block, and drive blocking. Mid/high 3* 5.65 I would take everyone of these guys before Sean Foster.
Wr Jair Hawkins Anderson one of the disappointments. A long strider with vvg sp, qu , burst, st, and power but at the lower of the abilities. Physical with big size match ups to take advantage of almost uncontested. he did land a 3* but only a 5.55 so barely.

Defensive visitors two shined juco cb Ahmari Hayes Ca 6'3 180 for one.
Hayes Nice hip flip, back pedal smooth, some nasty as well. Use his hands and arms well in press coverage, v big hitter, vv phy only lacks the big burst on recovery. VVg sp, st, qu, burst, st, hips, and tackling. 3* 5.7
SS/FS/CB Chris Brown Tx 5'11/6' 190 Huge hitter that can out run angles. For a safety ex-vvg sp, burst, st, vvg qu. VV Nasty, vvg hands , press and covers well. Equally good in the box or roaming at Fs. 4* 5.8
If you are okay with and under sized play maker then Aaron Jackson was a complete surprise. CB?/ ST/ RET Jackson Tx 5'9 175 First off he has that scary speed. He is fearless a huge hitter for his size excels at punt blocks. Very dangerous with ball in hands and he has a real knack for timing interceptions as well as 3rd down back on offensive. Ex -vvg sp, qu and burst, vvg st and power for size. He is just a play maker. If the size does not scare you he has real value. 3 * 5.7
To repeat what an excellent recruiting group coming in for a visit.

The last recruit and a bit of a disappointment was
Leo/ ? Olb/ FB Trey Baldwin Tx 6'3 223 I actually liked as a fullback he had all the traits and physical tools an mentality he got a mid 3* 5.6
A olb I hardly saw any film so ?. AS Wde or Leo he had vvg sp, qu, burst, get off, st and power along with being nasty and physical he might surprise as a Leo or Olb but I did not see enough to warrant anything higher than a 3* 5.5.
One common thred in these kids was their athletic ability and they brought some nasty.

Since 2009 Syracuse is 39-48 with 3 bowl wins. Illinois 34-53 with 2 bowl wins. I would say it's pretty close. Both have been to 3 low-level bowls and have a losing record.

I'm just easing into a different make of car. I'll probably struggle adjusting to where some of the new controls are located, but other than that, it'll be pretty seamless.

Coy Conk OT to Indiana. Man Cubit is doing an amazing job. Recruits/Commits are visiting other schools. Recruits that we have a shot with are going elsewhere. The kicker of all this? Cubit mentioned kids were ready to commit if he stayed......... a few guys we seemed to be high on went elsewhere and we get one commit from a 2* DB that barely had any D-1 offers.........

NOT impressed.

Cubit you lobbied for months to the media basically begging to be retained as the HC. It happened......2 yr deal.......Next year all we are going to hear is him begging and pleading to get an extension. The "I love these kids" memo is getting old. Not producing on the field as a Offensive coach and our offense looks awful. Not recruiting well....at all..... Saying you have kids waiting in the wings to commit if retained and we hear crickets and get a one commit.

This is just pathetic and for the higher ups at ILL allowing this to happen is even worse

I still cannot wait to see the list of transfers.....Foster was just the beginning.

I'm right there with you BigStan! I'm still waiting for Cubit to deliver myself.

Where are all these kids going to transfer? Do they want at a shot at big ten football, or do they want to drop to mid major or fcs?

Don't see many options for these guys, all due respect to them because they are Illini.

Finally, if there are mass transfers, and poor recruting class, the new AD could use this new info to dump Cubit. 1) his contract is not approved, so if a new AD is hired early January, he can rescind the offer. 2) by all accounts, even if he signs, it is a cheap buyout he can probably afford.

To tie back to recruiting, maybe a new coach can salvage some of 2016, or at least limit poor recruiting to one class.

Tre'Vour Simms has flipped from Illinois to Mizzou. big loss for Illinois, but can we not act like things like this weren't going to happen?

There's a reason so many people said recruiting was going to take a beating, but a little concerning that it's already happening..

It's almost like people with common sense could have seen this coming.

Seems that the strategy is to have NO talent in two years so the new coach can come in and offer starting positions day 1. Brilliant!
