I don't have any real evidence to support this theory, but, under the assumption that lowering academic standards would result in a better team and more wins, I think that it could actually raise the average academic level of the school. High school students like to apply to schools with good sports team. More applications means the school can be more selective, taking better students. Even if this theory is incorrect, as CUWPC noted, it's 85 students.

This is an obviously extreme example (FGCU's prior anonymity, smaller enrollment, different sport) but following their Sweet 16 run their applications skyrocketed. It also cites a few other examples.

Oh, yeah! Because Harvard, MIT, Northwestern, and U of Chicago have such strong athletic programs.

Are you denying that there is a link between recent athletic success and increased applications (thereby leading to improved academic standing)? Because I'm here to tell you that there is a clear, irrefutable, cause-and-effect link. Including a study by devin pope of the aforementioned u of Chicago

I would like to add Marshall.

I am ok without Geddis. We still have a shot at Mason and Coppett. I want to drop or greyshirt Jones get Mason and trick Rashad Weaver into coming here.

I want

Marshall
Nation
Simms
Mason
Weaver

We have a few more academic casualties to come as well to open up more scholarships

My top two semi-realistic guys I want to get right now are Marshall and Nation. Also reallllly want to get Harding signed, sealed, and delivered. If we can avoid any academic casualties, or at least replace the ones that do occur with equal or greater value, as well as get Marshall and Nation, I'm happy with this class. It won't be ranked any higher than 55, but I like the strength on the offensive line and the relative speed to some of our usual classes. Given the scenario the coaches had to deal with, this class is solid.

But it's not ideal ;)

It appears Tre Nation final 3 is Austin Peay, Navy and Illinois. According to Twitter.

There will be academic casualties

There will be academic casualties

Almost certainly, although I have no insider information. That is why I qualified my statement by saying I will only be happy with the class if we replace those casualties before signing day with players of equal or greater value.

2 Deep next year?

OLB Julian Jones/Justice Williams
MLB Tre Watson/Dele'Harding/Mike Svetina
WLB James Crawford/Cedric Doxy/Austin Roberts

SOUNDS ACCURATE .....though ju jones needs to add at least 10-15 lbs

im guessing barton and day at saftey with pat nelson getting snaps/ and the corners i just dont know.....mosley dunlap?.... with cameron watkins and ahmari hayes seeing some snaps.....?

Day could play corner and I wouldn't be shocked if Crawford moved to safety instead of OLB

Justice Williams is gonna be a player for us. Once he gains some weight and mass. I even like him over Jones. I'm glad they through a Redshirt on him this past year.

Class is now #61 on Rivals. Fairly solid showing from Cubit, and not a class that will tank the program by any means. Grab Trevour Simms tomorrow and they'll finish right around Beckman's better classes.

Justice Williams needs to add at least that for weight Aaron so he would join Jones. Except I am guessing Jones who was already over 225 may have add a few more pounds of muscle working out at home. SO.......

Cubit & staff is doing much better with recruiting this year despite the many odds stacked against them.

I'm actually more excited about this recruiting class than I have about any since some of the ones from the Zook years.

I like that the class has a lot of High School talent instead of Juco based. Juco talent saved us from being embarrassing the past 2 years but it is not good for building the program.

for the commitment /decommit swaps I think we came out ahead if we get Simms back. I like Harding more than Walton and the Pulley/Oliver duo better than Black and Shelton.

Agree - at this point we need some solid recruits so we have some depth in the class when a new coach is hired. Cubit has done a good job of not letting the bottom drop completely even with all the de-commits and transfers.

Would have been nice to keep Walton, Black and Shelton and add the others. Not sure what that would have looked like with the # of rides available, but we could use the depth and you never know what's going to happen once a recruit is on campus.
