I am ok going after him even though alot of fan are questioning it. He would be a great addition to the 2017 team and strengthen the interior of the line for next year and make the O-Line 8 deep next year

LTT would be a big help but would but tough to take given his off the field history and the state of Illinois athletics. Tricky situation

Really pumped about getting Micah Jones from Warren to a practice. It's nice seeing a school as big as my alma mater starting to produce major prospects! My sister is in a class with him, I will keep everyone updated ;)

Haven't really followed Illini football recruiting much in the past, but this thread seems kind of slow-moving, no? I'm not saying I'm expecting 5* recruits every day, but I would have thought we'd hear of some potential Illini at this stage in the game. When is football recruiting most intense? Should we already be talking to our future national champions or am I pulling the trigger too early?

The next class doesn't sign until next February. This is very early in the game. I am sure they could get commitments from a number of players if they wanted to, but they are going after a higher level of recruit that has offers from other top schools. Those kids usually don't decide until much later.

Keep in mind the staff is way behind since they just started. And they've had to work on getting spring practices set up and are still finishing them up.

Even with all that, while we usually get some early commits, most of them happen once summer camps get in full swing.

I suspect that there are a number of lower tier targets who would be happy jump on board with Lovie and staff. I think this staff is going to aim real high. Those kids will take some convincing. The fall back options should be a big improvement over precious years though I presume.

He retweeted someone who said he can do better haha

Par for the course. But this staff is going to get 4 stars to listen and some will bite. Our recruiting is going to be much better. And that's the floor. #WeWillWin

Good article. I especially liked this part:

Getting players to visit campus and getting them into school are two different things. Former Illinois coach Tim Beckman complained that the school's admissions standards kept the program from signing some top recruits. Smith says he hasn't asked for any changes to those policies.

"Won't be an issue," Smith said. "I knew what the University of Illinois was when I came here. We can sell our university with the standards we have right now."

I hope that is true! :) :shield:

I cannot wait to see how Lovie's first class turns out! Seeing him wearing Illini gear in pictures and in practice is still a little surreal.

We'll see if he's singing the same tune in 2-3 years.

Regardless, I like that they aren't treating the situation as some mysterious secret. They are at least creating the appearance that there is total transparency from admissions to Whitman to Lovie to the staff to the recruits. That's critical that nothing gets lost in translation through those channels.
