In the deep recesses of my memory I recall a number of years ago an Iowa coach telling recruits that the Illinois football program had become so bad it would never be able to be competitive again. In my mind Iowa’s attitude towards Illinois football makes this game all the more important.

That was a big, albeit understandable, loss. If Brown chose us, Bailey probably doesn't get offered. I really like Brown, but I like Bailey more. Sydney's successor, 3 year starter, future pro. Has Bailey burned his redshirt yet? Am assuming it's a foregone conclusion.

FWLIW, Terek is carrying a lot of flab. I'd rather have a TE recruit morph into a tackle, because they can really move.

I don’t think it is either, but Drinkwitz’s seat is heating up. No doubt that will have an impact.

Has to be one of the most unique "what ifs" sequences for Illinois football recruiting I can remember. The staff was 100% full tilt on Austin Brown, even being in on him really early too. He goes to Wisconsin and ends up being Bielema's first big swing-and-miss. Bailey has this up-and-down recruiting process. Probably best described as a Plan C recruit who impressed the right guy. Less than a year later and I wouldn't trade Bailey for Brown straight up.

Haven't seen any crumbs yet (they'll start trickling out this week) but I am assuming this will be a BIG contingent of recruits visiting for next weekend. Would be a great sign if Pierce or Howard are part of that group. Will likely be a mix of lots of '24 recruits, lots of '25 recruits, smattering of current commits, and a handful of players being prioritized for the few spots left in this class (Hill, Howard, Pierce, Henderson, Terek, Elzy, Karriem, current JuCo targets)

What a time for our football program to be revived. Our apparent savvy with NIL and the transfer portal could really kick things into overdrive.
