Like I said, Card is definitely going to Purdue

Not the pick-me-up I logged in for.

Yeah, the honeymoon is over. I don’t dislike the guy, but I’ve always liked to see Purdue as a bottom feeder.

Time to return to that even with RW at the helm.

I think the correct way to digest this is less as a Ryan Walters story and more as a story of how elevated the competition level will rapidly become in the new nationalized Power Two B1G

This is pro football now.

Which makes me wonder, who is better primed to out-do the other, BB or RW?

One is a long standing successful college head coach with NFL experience but are we grabbing a “college coach” at the exact time we need an NFL like CEO? (Maybe BB is that as well?)

The other is super inexperienced but may be able to role with the changes in the college landscape easier.

Like I said, I don’t dislike RW at all, but if someone told me Illinois could have guaranteed and sustained success but it would cost RW winning only 2 games at Purdue and getting fired in 2.5 years, I’d take it in a heartbeat.

You would think that would favor BB in the transition because he has NFL experience but apparently it’s not enough or it’s going to take some more time.

Eh, it favors BB because he's a systematic thinker who embraces new ideas.

But we're still Illinois and it's still a mountain to climb.

It's a bummer that Purdue could get something like that done under our noses, no sugar coating it. Could be massively impactful.

Continues to be tough to be an Illini fan. Entirely new, inexperienced staff gets the top QB transfer....life as an Illini fan. SMH

I assume the Texas connections with Harrell and Brees won out. Have to do whatever it takes to get Altmyer
Hate we missed out on the kid, but this seems to be a pretty simple answer. I’m sure $ played a part too, but I’d bet we could match anything Purdue threw at him. Or if we didn’t we thought we had alternatives that were as good or close to it.

This rooting for Walters thing might fade pretty quickly lol
I may get blasted but I have never understood the (current) love. Gratitude for what he did for us, certainly. But he is the head coach of Purdue, which is pretty much an auto-dislike for me. Didn’t even go outside the conference. Takes coaches, takes players, etc.

It’s been said by several on here that it is just a job to these guys, and they don’t have the loyalty of an alum. Fine. Then why do they get the good feeling back?

It’s hard being a true Illini fan but I will always be. That will never change. Im so used to this stuff happening to us but I’m very confident BB will turn it around.

So rumor was that Brogm didn't like that approach to NIL at Purdue. Did that change?

I'm not real optimistic. What else after altmyer if it falls through.

Graham isn’t an inexperienced p5 OC
Ok, minus Graham. My point is it is a (almost) totally unproven group, and the talk about Purdue's reluctance to commit all in to NIL just makes it that much more frustrating. Worn out from our programs constantly being viewed as the second choice and not the prime destination. What does it take?

This place cracks me up. A qb chooses an air raid offense over a run first offense and it creates an existential crisis. Bert hasn't really given us a reason not to believe he will have the right people in the right place at the right time.
It's not as if Bielema gets his pick. Two seasons ago we had Art. Less than ideal.

Tell that to Shannon and Mayer and Clark, and also take from that the truth that games aren't won in the offseason.

But the NIL piece of this is weird and troubling, for sure.

It is ridiculous BB and staff lost out on a top QB transfer they wanted to Purdue and a HC who’s never coached a single game - this is bad- there is no other way to cut it

Well that’s why he is going there. Air Raid. Don’t think it’ll work in the B1G. Also 2 years ago would we even have had Card or Altmyer on campus? Let alone have a great chance of getting one of the two?
