Yeah, I don’t really care about feeling good for RW anymore. He’s our direct competition now. He’s taking what could be ours. I hope Purdue goes 0-12 every year. Sorry, but I’m not really sorry.
Agreed...he kinda drank our milkshake...uggh!

Need Luke to save the day for us now! What’s he think of Lunney???

Also waiting on the Isaiah Williams shoe to drop.

Well that’s why he is going there. Air Raid. Don’t think it’ll work in the B1G. Also 2 years ago would we even have had Card or Altmyer on campus? Let alone have a great chance of getting one of the two?
Really surprised Purdue went with an air raid offense. Thought they would go with the more Bielema style of ball approach.

Do we know if this was RWs decision or something that was kind of pushed on him?

The next time BB writes a contract for his sidekicks he better have a special clause for B1G schools and a far more stringent one for West schools.

After all, he has produced a ton of DCs that have made it to the next level.

It was a RW decision. Most of the time the HC hires what they hate preparing for on the opposite side of the ball and I think that’s what happened here. He also knew an Air Raid type guy would win fans. They love throwing the ball.

I agree with you Frontierman. A QB wants to throw the ball and more than15 times and down field. The offense needs to open up or we will have a hard time convincing skill players into transferring to ILL.
You know we only threw the ball less than 20 times twice this year? And one of those was with Art playing. Think we threw it over 30 times about 75% of the time. It’s going to be alright.

If that’s the case, why did Card choose Purdue? More established OC?

Or maybe he wants to throw the ball 50 times a game?

I wonder how many times Purdue threw under 40 times this past year.

Edit: Answered my own question, they threw under 40 times 4 times. Usually in games where they didn’t need to throw it a ton. (Cupcakes and NW)

Offensive comparison

2022 Illini- https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/illinois/2022.html
2022 West Virginia (their OC is Purdue OC Graham Harrell)- https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/west-virginia/2022.html

The Graham Harrell offense might have had 5 more pass attempts per game, but that difference can be explained but WVU being down more often, not having a Chase Brown, etc.

Caveat- if you want to panic, Harrell's 2021 USC is more worrisome, but that team had even more baggage than WVU.

Harrell's WVU offense did so 8 out of 12 games. Devito out - passed their starter by 300 yrds, had half the interceptions, and won 8 games to their 5. So 🤷‍♂️ ya, frustrating.

For those of us that don’t have your insight/connection to the program, most recent news has been either neutral (unknown coaching hires or recruits coming in) or negative. (Anything to do with Ryan Walters it seems)

Any nuggets of positivity you can throw to the masses?
I mean I wouldn't get too high or low until we get to next week with a better understanding of what we are or aren't losing to the portal. That's where we really start building 2023.

I think the basketball hangover is bleeding over to this board.

And, rightly so. The hangover continues until an "insider" posts, after which the hangover is tamped down for a while until the next hangover item.

That is what boards do.

This will be interesting. Many times a defensive minded coach likes a more ball control conservative offense - don’t put my defense in a bad spot. Will Walter’s defense be as effective with this type of offense? We shall see. I’m making no predictions but I think it will be interesting to see how this works.

Can’t really blame card. He wants to play in the NFL who wouldn’t want to go to school with Drew Brees on its staff?

True, but I think Brees is on their staff only for the bowl game. ?????

However, I would assume Brees pitched in the entire NIL amount.
