How teams like ours get better is developing 3 star players into 4 star players. JJ Watt was barely a 2 star player. He will be in the Hall of Fame most likely. That is why Wisky succeeds. We have the coaches and the players to have 2 and 3 star players become 4 star. If i recall, Devon Witherspoon was a walk on and now he was the 5th player taken in the draft. I believe we will win the west with 9-10 wins. Citrus Bowl unless we win the conference championship game. Thats the Bar.

Spoon was never a walk-on.

He was a very late qualifier. Up until then, he was JUCO bound.

I don't recall Devon being a walk on, but he wasn't rated coming out of high school.

Here's the post with the new commit alert for Witherspoon: https://www.illinoisloyalty.com/post/illini-football-2019.25018/page-5#post-1472781

Also some posts further down about Sydney Brown's brother transferring to us.
I thought I heard that on a broadcast his freshman year but I could be mistaken but the point is that he was unrated but here he is the 5th pick of the draft. BB has a track record of getting the most out of his players. He has already accomplished that here. TDV in just one year here got a contract with the Giants.

We have only a few spots left and it's less that we have an overloaded WR room and more that we have pressing needs at other positions.

#1 by far: Center
#2: DB
#3: DL

Also TE

I'd argue #2 should be a top RB. Of the key positions, it's the biggest question mark on the team and our sell should be great (one of the best OLs, Chase Brown production, B1G, unproven passing QB, etc.)

I fear lack of an established 3 down RB will hurt us offensively like having a lack of veteran PG for the ball team.

Can someone articulate this case that we have an overloaded WR room? Because I really don't see it.
In the case of Henning, it is more because it is a small receiver that is most likely a slot guy. Illinois need a big WRs that most likely play on the outside more than another small slot guy with IW, Beatty, and Wilcher. Really is more of a square peg in a round hole.
