Could also tell us how the staff feels about some of the “unproven talent” the OP mentioned. Maybe they don’t like how some are progressing or feel some of those there already might be better at new positions.

Jones has a massive chip on his shoulder. I like it.
If he learns the playbook, he might get on the field this season. Could be a major red-zone weapon.

Here are his HS numbers- 136 catches for 2,200 yards and 27 touchdowns. That also included the COVID years, which in CA severely affected high school sports. (Which looking back on probably helped us get him. Bigger numbers in HS could have resulted in offers from USC and UCLA.)
