Illinois Football Staff Thread

Lovie is going to be a fantastic recruiter and his staff hirings show why. He knows how to build personal relationships that last a long time and he knows how to sell a vision.

Coaches want to coach for him and players want to play for him. He has a magnetic personality and it's genuine. He's a really good guy.

I had my issues with him as the Bears Head Coach but if there are any questions about his ability to recruit, he'll put those to bed quickly.

His issues as a Bears coach was his offense, always. But he scored a home run with this hire, and he's a damn good recruiter. I'm lovieing this staff

The pay cut for McGee was unexpected, but the top 3 guys salaries makes sense to me. Just out of curiosity, have position coach salaries increased that much or are we paying more than normal? Not saying we're overpaying or anything, just curious because those numbers seem higher than I expected.

USA Today provides a nice chart of assistants salaries.

Based on the 2015 numbers, I'd say we're paying market value for an upper tier P5 coaching staff. Not much for us to complain about here. (And yeah, the shock of that still hasn't worn off.)

We're SURE that McGee number is right? That's not just a pay cut for seemingly no reason, it also goes against what was reported at the time.

Maybe there are large-scale, not-so-difficult-to-obtain incentives built in the back-end that push him back to or over his Louisville numbers? Otherwise, I don't know either. I just can't get my mind around the fact we went from giving Ryan Cubit a $300k raise to organize clipboards on the sidelines for last year's S&P 98th ranked offense in January to somehow convincing the 19th highest paid assistant in the nation to take a $200K pay cut to come here and run our offense in March. When does that ever happen?

For those seeing Illinois football attitude at an historic high you can look back to 2005 just before Zook took the field. http://www.illinoisloyalty.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=376

I've watched for too long to say what followed can't happen again but I am also enough of an optimist and a Lovie fan to feel pretty good about this beginning a new narrative for the Illini in football. :shield:

No idea where to put this, but Mike Waddell is out as senior associate AD. He was then offered a temporary position within the university to give him time to decide his next move in athletics.

Paul Kowalcyzk was at the joint Whitman/Groce presser, so it looks like he may stay on. Whitman's administration is also starting to take shape.

Agree, one thing that sticks with me is that Lovie took 2 mediocre teams to the NFC Championship game and a Rex Grossman-led team to the Super Bowl.

That's twice, because he was also seen at the NFL combine alongside Urban Meyer last month.

Well, I guess it makes sense. If there's one thing that Beckman excels at, according to pretty much every interview that he ever gave, it's being around coaching. Might as well take his A-game hanging-out-with-coaches skills to one of the nation's top programs.

I could see a big program hiring Beckman as an assistant or something involved in the program. I'm sure with a coach like Meyer he could help recruiting or something along those lines.
