I don't think you can reprimand his choice, but you can reprimand how he handles that choice. I'm sure as a 17-18 year old kid in ESL he's seen a lot more of the real world than my son or your son has. He's grown up facing pressure, badgering and intimidation probably his entire life.

On the contrary, just because these kids grow up in tough underprivileged environments does not make them better prepared to control processes and make decisions, especially under extreme pressures. This is not about surviving a fist fight in a dark alley. Educational studies show the exact opposite, that kids who grow in such environments are generally ill-prepared to face the real business world and make the correct, educated decisions. And are much more susceptible to outside influences.

Illinois was in Carlton Bragg's final 3 before he committed to Kansas, correct? I say we should go get him

Illinois was in the final 3 and so was Kentucky. Antigua recruited Bragg for UK. Bragg has had a run of legal difficulties lately on top of some limited playing time. I am not sure what has kept him off the court- it seems like KU could have benefited from using him more if Self were comfortable having him on the floor. Maybe it is a fit problem at KU. Bragg is 6'9" and has played mostly inside. I think he's shot about 10 three pointers in 2 years. Maybe he wants a change of scenery and more of a role as a stretch 4. At 6'9", he's big but not an NBA big man. Getting some run outside the lane would help him down the road. I think he's already played a year longer in college than he had planned.

I think it's obvious that Ayo Dosunmu, Talen Horton-Tucker, Tim Finke, Torrence Watson, and Kezo Brown will be on the radar for 2018. Dosunmu is the only top-50 talent in that group. Kezo likely won't get an offer and we'd probably only take one of the remaining three.

I'm making some assumptions here, but if we end up taking four in the '17 class (no Tilmon or Smith, but get one late commitment/enrollee - HS or JUCO), sign a 5th year big, and lose one player to attrition, we could have three scholarships available for 2018. Any sense for what C/PF types Underwood and Antigua might be able to get in on? Any of these (?):

Moses Brown
Emmitt Williams
Darius Days
Russell Barlow
Brock Cunningham

Brock Cunningham's high school coaches think he's more of a mid major guy for what it's worth. Solid player, strong, good post moves, but lacks the level of athleticism needed for a 6'9 guy to be a high major big.

I think we'll see Amauri Hardy in O&B if and only if Mark Smith goes elsewhere, we hire Chin Coleman instead of Heirman, we miss on our top wing transfer targets, and we land an impact big man over the next 6 weeks. If Hardy is patient, there's a good chance he ends up in Champaign.

Tilmon is not a game changer but he is playing a position where we have no depth. If he is not sure of his choice he would be a transfer in a short period of time anyway. Am guessing BU's practices are very different that JG's and not easy. We just need to have faith that the staff will fill the hole. Do believe we are in trouble if the hole isn't filled so can't afford to wait on Tilmon. They may already have a plan with target players as they probably were not unaware of the risk.

If all he had to face growing up was a fist fight in a dark alley, I'm sure he'd take that in a minute. I'm guessing it's much worse. I didn't have a rough childhood and I may have faced worse, LOL.

We can agree to disagree. There's been plenty of kids from similar situations as his have been able to make the decision and done a better job handling it, and there have been many that have handled it worse. No big deal.

Talk about Mark Smith, Jordan Brangers, Kiir - they should be the focus now.

Just stop worrying about Tilmon, he would fill a need but I don't believe he'll be that impactful as a Freshman. The same people who have been in his ear to collect more money to go to Mizzou will be in his hear to leave to the NBA to get paid. He'll leave to early and end up overseas.

larry bird's highschool coach said same thing...not that BC is a larry bird. I think high motor, tenacity and BB IQ can offset athleticism shortcomings.

I would rather have Chase Jeter.

Sure, but most of the times, it is who you can get, not who you want. The implication is that there is some connection with Bragg from Illinois making his top 3, really no collection with Jeter who already has many high level programs after him.

Bragg got arrested for battery but the charges were dropped, then after that he got arrested for possession. Kansas had 4 starters get arrested this year alone. His character is very questionable. I would rather have Chase Jeter.

Bragg is over-rated and couldn't keep his nose clean or stay out of the dog house...pretty sure he is NOT a BU option.
