Well, Context matters. If the situation is that he is ours and is tepid due to CM, what's the point of waiting to commit?

Because without some kind of guarantee on our part that we won't go after Moore, what's the point of committing?

Seems to me you would take the pressure off in that situation IF that's where he wants to end up. I really can't forsee pursuing CM with the guards we have and Ayo coming up soon.

Need someone to rebound the other team's misses.

I want to know which player committing helps us get Ayo, it seems like it would be Moore because they are friends. Also not sure if they are even the same position. I have always seen Ayo as a PG but he is listed as an SG most places (Similar to Eastern in that regard)

Or MAYBE getting neither of them is best for getting Ayo

Considering BU is pitching Smith as a point guard, I don't see him pursuing Moore unless we lose on Smith.

CM may be excellent but we already have a 6' and 6'2"" guards. TF rated very high and TJL is very good and MS has been told he will be point. Just don't think he fills a need when we need size. Can see these guys in a rotation with DaW but not a fifth small guard.

I don't know if any player helps us get Ayo. If that kid is still growing, Cal is going to come calling pretty soon.

I hate the fact that Cal comes in and offers at the last minute or after the recruiting ball is rolling and get the player still. Tyler Ulis comes to mind. I saw that every big time blue blood program has offered Zion Williamson except Kentucky, but I would bet that they will make his top five in the end. UK is UK I guess. Gets players to their ultimate goal. Look at Ulis.

I think people are getting their hopes up a little too high about landing Ayo. I have a feeling it will be very unlikely that we get him. Will we have an outside chance? Sure. But I don't foresee us being a real contender.

And then there's the little issue that if we use all 4 remaining scholarships this spring, then someone has to leave the team to open one up for him. So we will see.......

Kentucky seems to be fading, Duke - I won't presume to know what's up with that, but at this point I don't see the attraction, and I don't think Smith is too concerned about getting minutes with Tum-Tum Nairn, Alvin Ellis and Matt McQuade since he's already said he'd like to play with Bridges who kind of plays wherever he wants. But Moore, Frazier, Williams, JCL and Lucas -- maybe he'd feel a lot better about the equation if Moore wasn't in it.
And remember, this is just my reading of tea leaves. I could be wrong. But I don't think Yvonne Smith's tweet was made out of idle curiosity.

Langford and Winston are legit concerns if he is worried about minutes though.

Then Smith should just commit, then he would know where he stood. I cant really see getting both of those guys. Our Guards would be TJL, JCL, DMW, TF, MS, CM. And only two with any sort of size.

CM will be sitting out a year and DMW may be redshirted because of his injury. So, maybe only 4 guards. And who knows what will happen after next year. So sign 'em all. Or not.

There is smoke and I find it something - not interesting - that his mom is concerned about Moore coming to Illinois. I really want to see Charlie in O&B and I have a feeling the Smith's don't.

IF you could only choose one though who would it be? I know WE would like both, but . . .

I did not see the article about Mark's mom's concerns, but Moore is another guard to put in the pot. I keep seeing these posts that want moore and smith. Then they want ayo and finke next year. My constant response is how many guards does one team need? They must want ayo to play center. If I was smith's parents I would be concerned about Moore coming. I am unsure about if Charlie would get a waiver but that's another guy who needs the ball whenever he does become eligible. When moore was starting, ayo didn't have the ball much in high school. If a guard or 2 transferred out then it could work. But it's 5 guards on the roster with last years players and the 2 incoming commits. I wouldn't want another guard either if I was the Smith family.
Charlie Moore does seem to 'need' the ball more than most players. Some desired attributes with recruits:
1. are they efficient on O and D?
2. do they have high motor?
3. do they make the rest of the team better?

JMO, I believe #3 is most important.

CM had good talent on his team at Cal that seemed to underperform...but his individual stats seemed really good at first glance. Am I missing something?

on the other hand, maybe he really wants to play with moore...?

If a given we could have either...Smith, size/talent/skill set and WANT to play PG specifically, makes this a no brainer in my eyes...

Moore seems like a WAY undersized shooting guard to me who HAS to have the ball in his hands to make a difference...

If all things were a given Smith!:chief:
